yeah, shipping costs kill me with Steve's which is why I do a bulk purchase every few months. making your own jerky isn't that hard eitherrrr ;)

LOL no judgement here. i totally understand the ease of convenience and once you do find a reasonable substitute, you'll be good for awhile at least! until they discontinue that product of course which they always do to things i enjoy.

I'm noticing some achiness from inner right knee to crotch. I did tag that knee with the bar during descent on Saturday and forgot to mention it. Didn't create a bruise despite smarting a bit. In fact, I have had some random achiness in joints over week 2. Nothing serious, nothing hampering life. I think it was just Week 2 weakness, because other than the knee nothing has beenhanging around nagging me. Just a note.

Not much of note yesterday except that I DIDN'T nap and made dinner like an Adult, THEN sat down. Sheesh, the things we celebrate around here.

 

I do have gym stories from today, though. I know how you guys love those.

 

So you know how Wednesdays are squat/deadlift day. I did my squats, and was mooooost of the way done with deadlifts, in fact I was on my last set (145x3) when this tall white-haired dude with seafoam green headphones walks up and starts giving me advice? I'm not sure what he was doing, TBPH.

 

He starts off with a question that sounded a bit like cross-examination in tone: What does this (deadlifts) do for you? Clearifies at my confused expression: Strength-wise. Like back, legs, stomach (srsly)?

 

Well, it's whole body just about. Calves, all the way up to back (insert hand gesture of posterior chain here). 

 

He pivots and says well these are pretty safe. The rowing machine (points to the machines where you lie on your stomach to row), yeah those he's heard people get injured on them. He doesn't do the heavy deadlifts (145 isn't heavy, but whatever. He has a 100lb bar at his spot*, where he should be still at, doing his thing), but they can be pretty safe if you do them right. 

 

Yeah, they're totally safe if you do them right.

 

Mumble mumble, wanders off. 

 

Did he thing the girl in the leather 4" weightlifting belt and shoes who at one point this session lifted 1.75x what he does day in and day out* needs deadlift "tips"? Were those tips? I genuinely do not know what that exchange was. It doesn't make me mad, I don't have the surplus wattage to do so every time some guy decides he gonna be a dolt today. I think it comes from a place of good intentions, just a little logical follow-up to gut check whether those words in fact need to leave their mouth would be real sweet. 

 

I banged out my last set and peaced out. Leaving the locker room, a guy acknowledges me and IDs me as the one "always in the corner doing legs." Corrected him cheerfully that squats are full body. "Yeah, I guess you do have bar on your shoulders..." DING DING DING, we have a winner. Probably didn't convince him his bodypart isolating ways are shortsighted, but that ain't my business, guys. 

 

*This guy does the same thing when he is using the barbell. Puts it on the ground, loads it to be 100lbs, bends down into a forward fold, his 6+ft self flexed like a yogi, picks the bar up, cleans to his shoulders, then presses. 3 spinal positions for the price of 1, grandma! This guys talks of avoiding injury as if he works out from a fear POV. And he does this mess. Lol.

This made my lumbar ache just reading it...

 

I mean, he makes a good point. HE definitely shouldn't deadlift, with form like that.

I didn't feel too bad until after Aikido, lol. There's definitely some minor this and that going on, but I've kept calories steady and on track, and with less volume than usual I should be getting more test than average.

Went to Aikido, got the expected not-technique day self-defense assignments. At least it involved munetsuki kotegaeshi disguised with a knife (instead of a punch). I committed to June 14th to test. And Sensei let me practice kaitenage tenkan on him. That made me feel a little more confident. Went home and rehearsed it, then did a few more techniques because #onemoretry
