SHIELD Agent Waldgeist in Hydra Prison I Infiltration

 

This is part two of a three challenge cycle with ring training at the core, surrounded by kettlebell work and nutrition habits. Part one is here.

OVERALL GOAL: to transform my body into a solid foundation for the life I choose. More precisely: 1) get a flat enough stomach so that I can workout shirtless without feeling embarassed and at the same time reducing the health risks associated with belly fat, 2) be able to move myself around in space as I need/want to

 

Quest 1 - Survive the artistic compound of the Hydra prison [GMB Rings 1 : Phase A2]

Easy enough, workout three times per week. This will continue to be my main workout, but obviously improving my muscle-to-fat-ratio with the other quests is gonna be immensely helpful with leveling up on this quest series.

 

Quest 2 - Don't forget your SHIELD training [S&S V of XII]

This has been good in April, hopefully I can keep the momentum. 100 Swings and 10 TGUs per day. Hopefully gonna progress to doing one-hand 24kg swings regularly and maybe start 32kg two-hand swings (might get a 32kg kettlebell for my birthday in late may).

 

Quest 3 - Don't fall into the Food Trap [Nutrition Part A: Snacking & Portion Size]

Eating habits are hard, but I'm not giving up. Not snacking between meals and control portion size of the meals.

 

Quest 4 - Prison work is supposed to break you, but it will make you stronger [Increase active minutes every day]

Active minutes will be defined as those over my heart rate threshold. The goal here is to have more than the day before

 

Quest 5 - Avoid prison food, it's supposed to make you weak [Nutrition Part B: Reduce sweets]

One of my big bosses, which needs more continuous attacking.

I have to admit, I always looked at your tracking sheet for goals and my eyes glazed over.  So, I am  now slowing down and trying to understand it. I'm assuming red means that that days goal was not met/green means goal met? What are the numbers beside the prison workout? For the prison food is the number the number of sweets you had?

W0D4 (Wednesday)

Did my first complete 100 24kg one-hand swings workout (before I always had some 16kg in there, too), so yay! I can't seem to get back into the Rings groove though, which is not good.... Since today (Thursday) is Fathers Day here in Germany (even though the acutal reason that it is a public holiday is the feast of Ascencion), I'm not sure if I'll get more in anyway (even though my dad and I won't hike around with a cart full of alcohol like some people traditionally do).

Usually I would by not buying any and only go grocery shopping really full. But at the moment that is out of my control. I try being picky, like "that's not my favorite kind of chocolate etc." which works until there is one of my favorites available. Or I tell myself, if I want some icecream after dinner I can't have any other sweets that day, which isn't perfect because I still eat that icecream (unless I forget or something), but better than eating sweets all day!

I actually did an entire 6-week challenge where I did not partake of sweets or added sugar at all. That helped put things into perspective. Once I got past the first three days [torture], it became much easier. And now, when I find myself slipping, I can remind myself of that time and remember that I got along without them at all.

 

It doesn't work 100% of the time (I'd have to go totally cold-turkey forever) but it helps.

 

Not necessarily a strategy for everyone, but another potential approach. Knowing that I have the power to do so helps me to moderate in those weak moments.

I agree with this so much and it really depends on the person. I completed a Whole30 a few years ago and it really opened my eyes.  When you cut out all sweets and added sugars it makes you more aware and if you are going to have a treat, make it be worth it and delicious. :)

W0D6-7/W1D1 (Friday-Sunday)

The bee sting turned to a swollen finger overnight, which meant I couldn't use it until Monday, which put pretty much everything on hold. :( Foodwise wasn't so good either with Mother's Day (I baked a cake and my sister made big chocolate pralines)... And if that wasn't enough yet, my fitbits wristband broke, so I can't wear it at the moment which means I'll probably have to change Quest 4 somehow (or let it go entirely, but I don't want to).

On the bright side, the mini started! And once again I run with the evil group, I wonder if that's my calling.....

I hope your finger is better now and bummer on the fitbit band. My co-worker put her fitbit in her sock while she was waiting for a replacement band. The fitbit won't work in a pocket but it will in a sock or shoe.

W1D4 (Wednesday)

I finally started Rings Phase 2! Two of three exercises were pretty hard, but I could do the minimum standards, while the last was a progression from an old exercise I could probably have done weeks ago. The mini keeps me motivated to go on with my kettlebell work (I'm gonna defend that first place even though it earns me as much points as my 9th place in another category). I also successfully changed my quest #4 to minutes spent doing HIIT or muscular endurance training, which is close to what the original quest was, but now only planned workouts count.

At the moment I only wear socks when I go outside and it is too cold for flip-flops, which is not that much time....
