Michi gets back to basics again

As those who followed by last challenge know, my depression has been getting worse.  I have decided to make simple, achievable goals this month.  This will keep me on the right path, and won't set me up for failure! I couldn't think of a cool theme this time, so, just basics.

 

Goal One

Track all my food on MFP

Con +2, Wis +2, Cha +1

 

Goal Two

Exercise three times per week

Str +1, Sta +2, Con +1, Cha +1

 

Goal Three

Do not drink soda except at work, and if used in mixed drinks at my brother's bday party

Con +2, Wis +2, Cha +1

 

Summary: Goal 1 = stay in MFP range, Goal 2 = exercise 3x/week, Goal 3 = no soda outside of work

Week One (5/8-5/14):

Goal 1:  86% (went over the limit 1 day)

Goal 2: 100%+ (exercised four times!)

Goal 3: 100%

 

Week Two (5/15-5/21):

Goal 1: 100%

Goal 2: 100%+ (cardio/long walks four days of the week.  Squats 5 days of the week for the Mini. Got some form of exercise every day of this week, Sun-Sat!)

Goal 3: 100%

 

Week Three (5/22-5/28):

Goal 1: 100%

Goal 2: 100%

Goal 3: 100%

 

Week Four (5/29-6/4):

Goal 1: 86% (went over the limit 1 day)

Goal 2: 100%

Goal 3: 86% (had soda at home one day)

Following along again Michi. There is nothing wrong with a stripped back challenge, the basics are what make the most difference anyway. Looking forward to seeing you kick ass!

Thanks for cheering me on, guys!

 

I haven't "officially" started yet, but I'm doing my best to follow goals during zero week.

 

yesterday I learned that eating half a pheasant is under 500 calories!  Tonight, if the local farm has any left for sale, I'll be eating grilled pheasants with my son and my dad.

 

I've dropped two pounds already this week and all I've done differently was I'm eating super close to my MFP calorie limit instead of trying to stay a few hundred calories underneath it.  I'm all in favor of that because I've been less crabby with more food.  And since with the exception of one candy bar (York peppermint patty, worth it!) I've been adding in things like grapes and nuts and string cheese... omnomnomnom

 

This weekend there will be much crap food that I will try my best to avoid, but since its a birthday party for my brother/best friend, I am going to allow myself a couple drinks and a piece of cake.   We'll be eating dinner on the road Friday but I already have that planned out - thank you, Culver's, for making SnackPacks, so I don't have to eat a huge-ass value basket! (called huge-ass because eating so many of them over the years helped me to get a.... well, you know!)

 

I'm feeling positive today, and going to try and keep the momentum going!

Now to go to work, then go to my weekend of fun, and then knuckle down for the challenge.

So, today wasn't a goal meeting day. But it was my brother's birthday so I have zero regrets about the bratwurst and the booze.   Now, to get off the internet for more booze, and possible gaming.

Booze is a good excuse reason for many things! :D Sounds like a good plan for the day.

It was a very good weekend. We got a ton of walking in (an hour yesterday, an hour and 40 mins today!), got lots of sunshine, had some brats and hard cider, had some gaming, and lots of good family time.  I'm pleased to say that for today, official day one of challenge (I think... I am pretty tired at the moment lol) I followed my goals and am starting the week out strong.  I'm a little leery of what the scale will say but I also know from tracking what I ate, even with the brats and booze, I didn't eat thousands and thousands of extra calories, so I probably didn't actually gain anything.   We'll see what my Friday "officially" weigh in holds. Though I am one of those folks that weighs every day just to see how things fluctuate, so, we'll also see how tomorrow morning goes. :P

I'm glad you had a great weekend at the party! Sounds like a fantastic start to the challenge (even if it was week zero!) and your goals sound manageable, which is always hard to get right when you're fighting depression.

Pretty good so far, LogicLeigh!  I met my goals, and with the exception of a derp derp moment at work this morning bringing me down for a while, I've kept my mood pretty even.  I was especially proud of myself for taking a walk today -- we had an extra long lunch break/company cookout, and when I finished eating, I opted to go for a 20 minute walk instead of eating dessert(s).

 

My weigh in this morning was... discouraging. But I do know that logically I didn't eat 3.6lbs worth of extra calories this weekend, thanks to tracking.  I'm hoping I get back to where I was and maybe see a loss by this Friday's weekly "official" weigh in.

 

I hope all are having a good start of week one. :)

Whenever I eat away from home I'm usually quite a bit heavier the next day, I think it's mostly due to all the salt and retaining water. So I think you're right, no reason to worry. :)

Never feel sorry for the bare minimum. You are here, and the darn intro post still looks good.

Understand way too well with the down emotions (for different reasons of course), also jealous of your ability to track at a party. Cool your able to keep the logic up!

Thanks, all. I appreciate it.  This week has been pretty blarg.  Gray skies, not sleeping well, and the knowledge that I'm using this week to try and undo one freakin' BBQ.   I get kind of angry sometimes.  I understand logically that the way I am eating now is far better for my body.  But I am so sick and tired of either not allowing myself to eat things, or eating things and discovering they no longer taste good (to be fair, that's more me being petulant than anything else), or allowing myself the rare indulgance like this last weekend and then feeling like it sets me back a week or two.  I understand one week, one fluctuation, that's small potatoes in the greater scheme of things.  But I have very few things in my day to day life to look forward to or be happy about other than my son. 

 

Ah well. Whining over.  Tonight I'm having sirloin steak and steamed broccoli.  That will be good and should be filling enough that I avoid the snacks. 

 

Also, I installed a pedometer app that syncs to mfp on my smartphone.  I had no idea I got so many steps in at work!  Yesterday I got over 12,000 steps, most of them at work.  There's my five miles for the mini! :P   Today I'm at about  7,000 steps which makes sense, work wasn't as crazy so not as much dashing back and forth.  Still pretty respectable considering I didn't go for walks or anything.  I'm not planning to do much active tonight to be honest.  Probably some gaming this evening.

Sometimes a weight fluctuation like that will be from something else; not drinking enough water, hormones, extra salt, etc... It doesn't mean you've undone everything you've worked towards just by having a special meal!

 

I know it sucks sometimes, because it feels like eating healthy is just depriving you of your favorite things, but it won't be like that forever! You'll find things you love that fit how you are eating and you'll realize that some of the stuff you were eating before just makes you feel bad. 

 

Here's a few more to (hopefully!) make your day a little brighter!

Totally sympathize, but think how great your doing by just seeing at what you can count! (I usually stop within a day to count calories). (All stars across the board you are able to do that even when down... that is amazing).

It's kind of sad with the realization of the food you once dreamed of ends up becoming less tasty...

 

I give you luck! Half way through the regular work week, and hope your steak was really good!

This week was tough emotionally.  Super high anxiety.  I didn't overeat, so I am calling that a super mega win.  I'm also down 0.8lbs from last Friday, so I got rid of all the BBQ-gain and shaved a little more off.  Also a win.

 

Today I'm off work to chaperone my son's field trip to the zoo!  Should get lots of walking and it will be fun seeing all the animals.  Grateful I am able to do things like this with my son.  :)

Well, I stumbled a bit today.  I bought some popcorn with the theory I'd eat half today and half tomorrow.  Instead I ate it all today.  After that, the only way I could stay in my MFP range would have been to either not eat dinner, or exercise for several hours.  Instead I compromised and ate a light dinner, and exercised for one hour.

 

Tomorrow will be better. :)
