I've got one I want to put in my challenge thread, but it keeps showing up huge. I can see it different sizes in my gallery, but I can't figure out how to get it in my thread other than huge. What I really want/need help with is this forums... culture? atmosphere? I don't know what I'm trying to say... I guess what I mean is, where is most of the good info/chat/motivations/connections to fellow Rebels? And I know that it can be whatever I want it to be, etc etc. but what do you recommend? They'll help you get familiar with the forums and the challenge format. You can follow this thread for guild info/chat, motivational posts, random gifs, and other Assassin zaniness and/or checkout the other guild chats. Each guild has its own culture, so picking one is as much about finding a group you can identify with as picking your preferred workouts. Or there's the Accountabilibuddies, if you're looking for a smaller group to help with accountability. If you're looking for exercise specific information, you'll want to look under General Fitness and the Fitness Specialties (since you're here, I'll link the Bodyweight section). I've been browsing the site and forums for a while before I joined up, so I'm a complete n00b. (although I really am in other ways.) In my experience, most forum users are NOT paid Academy members. There's an old leveling system with stats that was retired at the end of last year - however, some of those of us who "grew up" with it have continued using it because we like it. Those are the levels and stats you see in signatures. I recommend making your Challenge thread in this Assassin forum, and then spend time clicking around into other people's challenge threads. Read them, ask the poster any questions you have about what they're doing, make comments, etc. The more you reach out to other people, the more people you'll find reach back to you. Also, watch for the Assassin Guild Minichallenge to be posted. And join in, if you're feeling up to it. A lot of NF friendships are made via the Minichallenges. But keep this caveat in mind too: Your personal Challenge goals come first. The Minichallenge is a "Mini"-challenge. It's an extra. Something to work on if you feel up to it and have the time. I've been trolling the bodyweight threads and the parkour threads and I've been intimidated (I don't have a clue on the many technical words used and I feel I may be sucked down into reading and reading without actually doing) so I am sticking to Adventurers (and my newbie routines) until I get more confidence (and strength and fitness habit). But then again-- meeting a fellow newbie who is also new to this thing (forums, fitness, paleo, etc.) is kinda encouraging. For now I am focussing on NF's Body Weight Routine for newbies to increase my strength and get my body in shape so I can eventually do parkour (yey!). The great thing about the new guild layout overall is kind of what our guild leaders Hazard and Starsapart were getting at: you can start here instead of having to do the whole Lvl 1 thing, and follow and receive support from actual assassins who are doing what you would like to do. Plus being around during our chatter in the den here and the awesome minis is fun and you start learning stuff as we go. I never hesitate to ask what an acronym means, ask someone why they are doing a certain program, or inquire about modifications and progressions appropriate to my level of fitness. For example, the last challenge mini had a person in the role of "ninja" doing many various parkour moves/jumps, and people could give them a try following a video. It was the first time I had ever heard of "skin the cats" haha. The forums can be overwhelming (I panicked and almost backed out on my first challenge) but I mostly get all the support I need from the Assassin guildmembers so I rarely read other portions of the forum. All this to say stick around and you will enjoy the guild, learn as you go, and get to know others while having fun! As a few others have said - your level of fitness currently doesn't really matter so much as your intentions and interests. "Assassin" is a state of mind. When I joined the guild, I had a broken ankle and 70lbs still to lose....... Forget parkour, I couldn't even walk. It was amazing learning and growing with this phenomenal group of people. But, as always, you do you! We will be here when you feel ready to join us. My fitness training is now taking a huge fencing focus so I thought maybe about switching to the Monks, but after poking around the forums, it looks like fencers exist in all guilds. Besides, a lot of my fictional fencer inspirations are more rogue-ish anyway??????? And I like it here, besides. In other words, I'm back and feeling refreshed. Still contending with a back injury, but at least it's relatively minor. I have chronic knee problems so I can't really do the stance for that (or most other martial arts), but it strikes me as highly Assassin-compatible.
