raptron Posted May 3, 2016 Report Share Posted May 3, 2016 MY 20TH NERDFITNESS CHALLENGE?!?! WHAAAT?! I guess it's time to bring it back to the basics! I'm Raptron and I usually work pretty hard to be Sonic the Hedgehog IRL: But competition season ended a few weeks ago and it's time to shift gears. I am doing a Bone Frog race on May 21, so I am working on some cardio work this challenge. I've also recently joined a bouldering gym with a great fitness room for lifting so I want to climb more. I've stopped cooking as much because I've been busy and just got lazy about it, so a lot of our meals have just been leftovers or strange mish-mashes of partially prepared food. I want to get back into the habit of cooking more often and also enjoying my food to the fullest when I do eat it. Goal 1. Something about Cardio Do at least 2 of these per week: sprint intervals, rowing, jump roping, jogging, running stairs, etc. Goal 2. Something about Conditioning Do a conditioning circuit 2x per week Goal 3. Something about Climbing Get on the wall every workout at the climbing gym Work on flex hang holds 2-3x per week Buy climbing shoes Goal 4. Something about Cooking Cook dinner 3x per week Eat a meal without any screens 3x per week If you feel like you've seen me use these goals before, you probably have. I prefer the method of testing out your goals during the 'tween weeks, so here we go. Day 0.2 Went to the gym and did some stuff. It was gym stuff. Back squats 5 x 45# 5 x 85# 5 x 115# 5 x 135# 3 x 5 x 165# <-- Switching to a high bar squat becauseeee reasons. I was mostly squatting high bar anyway with my barbell placed too low so I'm just making the shift to try it out for a while. I have trouble with a neutral spine in low bar which leads to pinching at the front of my hip and I'd like to avoid that. Front squats 3 x 5 x 115# <-- Should probably up this Deadlifts 10 x 45# 5 x 95# 3 x 5 x 145# <-- Hahaaaa, they're working. I think my problem when I re-tweaked my back/psoas/whatever was actually from lowering down wrong and I'm concentrating hard on making sure my body position doesn't fuck up on the negatives here. Weighted 20" step-ups w/85# on the bb: 3 x 8 per leg <-- These are fucking hard and had me sweating like a horse in Ju-ly Then I did a this fun circuit 5 times... 10 tricep push-ups, 25 handstand shoulder taps (on the wall), 10 exercise ball pike-ups, 15 banded clam shells per side, 15 jump squats I wasn't going to call it a conditioning circuit but I mean, it kind of looks like one now that I am staring at it. I'll give it to myself this time. Then, flex hangs! 5 mississippis at the chin-over-bar flex hang position and then slow negatives, trying to hang out with bent arms for as long as possible until failure. I did 6 sets. And then I got on the wall! I climbed 4 V1s and attempted a V2 but the V2 came last and I was kind of in a hurry to get home because I don't really have enough time in the day to spend 2 hours at the gym and still get other life things done... Which is another reason I am doing climbing last right now in my workout schema. It's not my #1 priority right nowwww, but maybe eventually? Made a delicious dinner of cheesy chicken and broccoli quinoa. Cheese, broccoli, chicken, and starch is a top 10 favorite meal for me. It must be my Midwestern roots peeking through. CASSEROOOOLES.
