Goal 1:

Stop eating like a jerk.  While it is not a measurable goal, it is by far my most challenging.  To make it interesting, if I DO eat like a jerk, I will post it here.  Not to be made fun of, but because I hope that the act of having to post it will keep me from eating it.  For example: if the husband brings home a macro-friendly dark chocolate bar for us to split, that is not eating like a jerk.  If I stop and buy a king sized Reece's cup on the way home, that IS eating like a jerk.

I promise to be honest.

Goal 2:

Lots of folks have been great about giving advice regarding my hip discomfort.  I have even found several exercises that seem to work.  Yet I do not do them consistently.  Why?  Dunno.  So it gets its own goal.  I need to get this crap handled so that I can get back to being awesome.

Goal 3:

Keep lifting.  3x per week.

Starting numbers, pounds:

Squat - nope

OHP - 95

Bench - 135 (that feels so good to type!)

DB Row - 60

DL - 210

Let's see where we end up!

LUYL:  Well, it's really fitness goal.  I feel like I am nearing the point where I need to leave stronglifts for something else.  I need to figure out where to go from here.  That, of course, requires copious amounts of lurking, google-fu, discussion questing.

I'd like to have done a fair amount of that research accomplished and at least an idea by the end of May.  (Another non-measurable goal.  This challenge is rife with them.)

Ah, the quest for intermediate programming. Best of luck!

& so it begins.   Thinking about staying with SL until the home gym is ready, but we shall see.   Regardless, I want to be prepared!

Hey!

So I don't usually come 'round these parts, but I couldn't help noticing you're doing stronglifts (oh hey me too! *waves*). When I read about your hip discomfort, I had to comment. I just got through a bout of the same thing! The only thing that helped was narrowing my stance if that makes any sense. My stance was pretty wide because I thought I needed it that way for balance. Wide and pointed outwards. It got to the point that if I didn't do something differently, I would not be able to finish my sets (I mean even stretching didn't help...and my sig will tell you why that's kinda cray). So I took some advice from a nearby trainer (a lady this time because guys seemed on board with my form) and brought my feet quite close (actually shoulder width), arched my bottom as far back as it would go and lowered. IT WORKED. Things that should be sore are now sore, my hips have largely left me alone. Now I also bring my toes in a little bit because I'm naturally duck footed (Yay childhood ballet/fencing) and by the time I'm up, my toes are in a normal stance (sometimes even pointing out the tiniest bit).

Just thought I'd share! Especially if anything in my tale sounds familiar!

Thanks @Shrilaraune!  I find that standing or walking duck footed does tend to make it worse.   My quite tentative plan is to rest it for this entire challenge,  and then start with front elevated split squats before returning to regular Bb squats.

Thanks for popping in; feel free to stay a while.  There are quite a few lady lifters in the Warriors section! And every single one is awesome!

HEEEEY YOOOOOU GUUUUUUUUUUYS!

Following.

When I got bored with Starting Strength I moved to 5/3/1.  In hindsight I wish I had just kept grinding through SS until it was absolutely impossible to advance.  If you do decide to move on to something more advanced though, I do recommend you check out 5/3/1.

So, yeah.  By the end of this challenge, I would like the entire movie to be in my thread in gif form.

Plus - SO GLAD you are here! YAY!

So that's a vote to stick with SL for a bit longer?  I actually may have to - the squats will once again be linear for sure when I start then back up.  But the OHP, bench, and DB rows have slowed considerably.  I don't have the knowledge or experience to create some sort of monster hybrid (mwah-ha-ha).  DL is linear but getting slower and harder.  So.  Dunno???:abnormal:

Also.  I found it impossible to read the first line of your post inside of my head.  I hope that I was not the only one.

SL actually has a plan for when 5x5 starts to slow.  I believe it drops you to 5x3 and then eventually 5x1.

Personally if I were doing it again, yes, I'd stay with it and follow it out till that 5x1 stage. Just my $.02 though.

Yeah, I am 5x3 with ohp and soon with bench.  DB row I replace one more set with a higher weight each time.  5 lb per side is too big of a jump for me. Bb row was crap and form sucked so badly that I switched to dB after 12 weeks.

I appreciate your thoughts.   I am definitely sticking with SL for another 8 weeks.   & may well continue after that if it seems to still be working.   I just like to be prepared. (Or collect underpants.   Whatever.)  :-)

It's before my challenge officially begins, but I'm logging today's workout anyway.

It.  Was.  Awesome

Seriously, why would anyone ever do drugs when lifting makes you feel this good???

In pounds.

OHP

2 x 5 at 45

1 x 5 at 65

1 x 3 at 85

5 x 5 at 95

That felt most excellent!

Oddly, in the middle of my last set - which, I was obviously struggling through (but beasted!), some dude at the gym asked me if I wanted a spot.  Um...no?!

5ac83da8e8087c2ff46a2041dff1238b.jpg?ito

DL

1 x 5 at 135

1 x 5 at 155

1 x 5 at 175

1 x 5 at 195

1 x 5 at 205

1 x 5 at 215 - PR!!!!

I am pleased (although food-wise, this week...well, let's just say that it is a good thing that it is zero week.)
