Hermy G and The Machine

Overall goal: 

Rebuild The Machine - intelligently.  

 

Back in the day they called me, "The Machine".  My foray back into boxing last night was hysterically bad. My former trainer would be disgusted with how far I've fallen (okay, maybe I'm projecting, ha!).  Pleasantly, this rude awakening as to how out of shape I actually am even though I can pull 293 coughdidimentionmyprcough is just what I needed.  

 

Do all this without overdoing all this. Be honest about my recovery and how my body feels.  No making myself sick. No making myself fatter from stressing the ol' bod out. Ain't nobody got time for that. 

 

 

Goal 1: Boxing

Go to boxing 1x per week until I no longer throw up in my mouth during training (seriously). Then up it two.  

 

Goal 2: Frequency method & accessory work

I just want to do be able to do a reasonable amount of push ups. The second I stop training them I lose them. So:

Push ups 3x week

I've been sucking at doing my accessory after lifting. So just freaking do it, Hermy. GOSH. 

 

Goal 3: Active recovery

Walk the majority of the days I am at work for 5+ hours (which will change from week to week) for at least 45 minutes. 

Restorative yoga 1x per week. Restorative means actual restorative. 

 

Goal 4: Don't eat like an asshole most of the time

Pretty straight forward. I know what this means.

I used to box maybe 5 years ago... I guess for 3 or 4 years total. Then I took a break and started the lifting. Next thing I know it's been 5 years! Time flies.  But yeah, it's a lot of fun and I remember being pretty competent back in the day. Granted, I never had to bust out fisticuffs on the streets but I felt pretty confident I could hold my own.  Can't wait to get back there.

Updates! 

 

Boxing - check

  - Went last night and somehow it was worse than before. Seriously. What the hell. Then I decided to sign up for real and committed to a 12 month contract. And I'm definitely having some anxiety about that. 

 

FM & Accessory - 50/50

  - I've been good about doing my accessory work, even started doing the ol' abs again.  I haven't been doing my fm push ups, though.  Slacker. Technically we did some last night in boxing but I'm not counting those because they were poorly done due to wearing gloves. 

 

Active recovery - 50/50

  - Walking is spot on.  I'm only IN the office 3 days this week (worked from home yesterday) and I walked both Monday and Tuesday for more than 45 minutes. Wonderful!  Haven't done my restorative yoga yet, but I'm going to do my favorite foot and ankle yoga class (short and amazingly effective) and then a restorative session tomorrow morning before I head up to the 'burbs to spend time with my seester and her munchkins. 

 

Food - Check 

  - I have not been eating like an asshole. I had to take a short cut break to refeed b/c more time had gone by than I realized and I was getting really... ehhh... crabby, we'll say. So, that's not part of what I want, ya know? Anyhow, refeed was still not assholish.  I've also decreased the amount of cutting I'm doing while I get used to this new boxing and lifting schedule of mine.  Then I'll up it some more.

Hullo there. 

Boxing and Lifting and Walking, that makes you some sort of Olympian. Surely somewhere in the Olympic Games rulebook there's a clause about that.

I was completely run down last week.  I managed to workout Tuesday thinking I was just normal levels of tired (I've been having weird dreams so I wake up a lot). Uh no. It was rough and the next 4 days were awful.  I passed on boxing in lieu of recovery.  There was a lot of binge watching Doctor Who, laying around, and sleeping. 

 

I still hit many of my goals, though.  So, that's cool. Here's the sum of things: 

 

Boxing: nope - rested because I needed it. Go me for not trying to kill myself with activity. 

 

FM & Accessory: Actually, yes.  Managed to do some push ups 3 mornings last week.  Good on accessory - messed around with some new accessory for deadlift day. 

 

Active Recovery: I was at work 3 whole days but only walked 1 partly due to needing to get stuff done before I leave for staycation and partly because of the whole really worn out thing.  I don't know if i did restorative yoga... I can't remember. I think so. Maybe?  

 

Food: I ate most well, but there were some assholey things in there.

aw mannn, sorry to hear about the run-down sickness. glad you kept up with things you could and passed on thing that would've likely just made recovery longer.

So, the challenge is over, eh?  It appears I fell off the face of the planet. Again.  God, I'm good at that. 

 

Anyhow.... so I felt better, then not better, then better but work was busy and I had a bunch of obligations to get done and then vacation. And by vacation I mean staycation with Boyf.  That means - I haven't been to boxing once. NOT ONCE. Dafuq. Two weeks were rest requirements. The week of work crazy I didn't leave work until the time at which class started. So annoying. And there are no normal workouts during staycation week because it's all about hanging out together. Also, we went on an accidental 9 mile hike in 95% humidity. So... there's that. 

 

Food was okay - both quality and quantity left something to be desired (too little food, in this case). But it could have been worse.  I've figured out a way to make sure I eat more veggies when I'm at home (not a problem when I come to work - but I get extra lazy when I am home) and my cabinet is now full of those baby food sauce packet things.  Yup. No shame. 

 

I spent a lot of time doing yoga when I was "resting" so I count that, over all.  I've also been getting all super into Fit For Real Life so I've been messing with her mobility/neural drive stuff a lot.  

 

There was ample walking during vacation and week 3 - less during crazy work week as I tried to get everything done before I left. 

 

Other than chaturanga during yoga I did very few push ups. :( So, bah. 

 

All in all, not a successful challenge.  But at least it got me back, in part, in the challenge mindset.

Call it a soft launch. You plan and open up for business, but if/when things go wrong, you get to do it all over again with the new knowledge! winning!
