Read until quite late last night, but finished the book, haha. So slept a bit late, but then got up. I did my errands, did some household chores, and packed. All more or less done before dinner. I also spent some time on work. Getting new domains and pointing one domain to some hosting I have. Not sure if it took 45 minutes, but doing all that counts for me. :)

Arrived in Tokyo today (Friday) and while it is still early afternoon right now. I'm posting for today too. Hopefully I'll stay away until at least 8 pm, but who knows? I slept about 3 hours on the plane. I also got a free upgrade to business on the long stretch, so that was nice and made those three hours pretty good ones.

Great news!  So glad you had a good flight - business is much nicer than even premium economy (I only know thanks to free upgrades too!)

 

The whole living in Japan thing is so exciting, I feel so chuffed for you - as if I were there too! :D   I'm imagining it a bit like a cross between a Murakami novel and Shoshanna's experience from Girls... :lol:

Yes, business is soooo much nicer. The whole being able to actually lie flat and such. Of course, for me, flying is the perfect time to watch movies and really engage with them so I tend to watch a lot of movies (it also passes the time). I watched Wonder Woman for the first time and wow, is it good. Then I rewatched Die Hard for the hundred time or something, it is coming to Christmas, isn't it? :)

 

I've not read a Murakami novel and I haven't seen Girls. So I have no idea. But it is pretty incredible and exciting. I just wish I remembered more of the language. Ah well, when this weekend is over (just getting settled this weekend and fighting jet lag/time zone shift), I'll get back into practicing Japanese.

I did get out and explored a nearby mall. I bought food there. Most of the day however was spend playing Guild Wars 2, so I didn't unpack or anything. Oops...

Finished off the week well I think. I did spend the morning (woke at 11 am) until middle of afternoon with the computer, first some daily tasks and then playing GW2. Had fun though.

 

After that I went for unpacking and planing the rest of this year. I feel like I've really connected with what I want to do and hopefully I can engage with it well for the next five weeks. That is right, there is only five weeks left of 2017. The year of strength as I called it from early this year.

 

Looking back over the year, I've built strength in my mind, my emotions, and in my spirituality. I've built some strength of body, but mostly I've strengthened the connection I have to my body.

The week went as I expected in many ways. I didn't do everything I'd set out to do, but I did enough and perhaps a bit more than that. I'm happy to be situated and unpacked after only two days. I haven't had a chance to explore the neighborhood yet, or to go by the more normal grocery store (the one I went to yesterday was kinda upscale-ish). I also haven't figured out a few other things about Japan yet, but I have time. I've been here for about 3 days of 90ish, I still have 96,7% left, haha.

 

I went through and added and fixed with tasks on my Last Quarter post. Anyone who saw it when I created it would notice it is very different now. I love how it is a living document, while not taking away anything I've done. And without leaving all the messing editing in the process. Life isn't a list of tasks to be done, and it continued to show me that.

 

My writing keeps not wanting to be tracked, so I won't. But I still want to put a focus on it for December. :)

Week #9 (#48) - Nov 27 to Dec 3

 

This is a week of setting up my time in Japan. I guess that isn't so strange. With almost 13 weeks here, what is one week of set up? And there is more things to set up and figure out when you stay that long I suppose.

 

Beyond that, this is the first of two weeks of one short story per week writing and submitting. This is for the anthology workshop (AW) that I'll go to end of Feb next year. More writing will come in January.

 

For my time in Japan, and especially December, I want to focus on exploration (writing, visiting sights, learning Japanese), spirituality (through rituals, holiday traditions, praying, self reflection), and winter clearing for spring (reviewing the year and planing next year, decluttering my computer, finishing off publishing/business projects, making clear what action steps I want to take and start down the list).

 

Oh and Kate has a new course I'm in. Surprised I'm in? Lol. Body Liberation (BL) which I am in some ways taking as review. Not because I've done her course before (or the one it is built from), but because I've learned a lot of Kate's body practices.

 

All the tasks under weekly tasks aren't necessarily meant to be finished this week. Partly I want them there to remind me off them and so I can choose to do them if a more immediate tasks seems absolutely unappetizing. I'd rather do something than nothing in those cases. And self care tasks are all there whether I plan to do them this week or not as they always have been.

 

I want to aim to finish three self care tasks/steps (for those with more than 1 as the number of tasks).

 

PS. Notice how I'm ready to tackle lists, especially long lists again? I think I do better with them when I have more stability in my life. I haven't yet quite figured out what works when I'm doing a lot of traveling or routine shifting.

Off to an okay start for the week. I have a couple of ideas for the short story I need. I did work for 45 minutes. I played a lot of Guild Wars 2, oops. Haha. I finished the base game, well the story part of the base game. Next I have to decide if I want to do more story or go for exploration, first I'll go and grab some mastery points I think...

My work hour today was mostly spent researching how to get a Japanese sim card and transit card as well as how to get to Akihabara and taking a picture of a map to use to find the stores I'll be looking for. Hopefully after I go there tomorrow I'll be able to use a map app. Apparently there seems to be no free maps of Tokyo to use on my smartphone. Google Maps doesn't allow you to download one for some reason. So data will be necessary. I might look into getting a tourist map too, not sure where'd do that, and I have a feeling I'd need one for each area of Tokyo since it is huge!

 

I also took the time to really sit down with myself and connect. I did the celebration ceremony to start closing up my second run through of Nourish Yourself. I took a much more casual approach this time, especially since I was doing so many other things too, but I love the results I got. The freedom to choose how to deeply connect with myself is golden.

 

I never mentioned yesterday that the website set up I did was a pain in the neck. But I got it just as far as I need it. I can look at other stuff in the future, but maybe next time I'd rather pay for a good theme, than retrofit an almost good one that was free. At least I wasn't looking for anything fancy, then it would have been too much.

 

No Japanese practice, no writing. Shame, but I won't dwell on it.

I was meaning to do something today, but decided pretty early that it just wouldn't happen. Now I want to do it tomorrow so it'll get done. Yes, I'm being undescriptive, because I don't want saying it to make me feel like I did it.

 

Had fun in GW2 today. I also cleared some other stuff. I got pretty close to finishing the cleaning task. Next thing is just to detail it out either here or in my to-do program so I have checkboxes to check or lines to bold when I finish each item. :)

 

Also finally finished of NY, which feels nice. Tomorrow I'll try to start BL, but considering I'll spend a lot of time socializing and doing the thing, I'll just see what happens.

Guess who finally went to Akihabara and get herself a sim card? Oh, and I got the transit card on the way. :D And then I installed it, stopped my phone plan, unlocked my phone from being operator locked. All in a good day.

 

The day ended with me having a tickle/dry throat and starting to sneeze, telling me I'm getting sick. I really need to take better care of myself and sleep.

Also, earthquake! Like, a bit of swaying under me, nothing moved really, but I could feel the ground kinda softly swaying like grass in a breeze. Scary or awesome? Actually, awesome in the sense of terrifying and cool and unnerving and interesting.

I woke up with more of sore throat and sniffly. So I realized I needed to sleep enough and I needed to take care of myself.

 

I spent the whole day resting with GW2 and netflix. There are certain things I need to now do on Sunday, but there isn't much I can do about that.

Sunday was a... interesting day. Things turned around. I'm not sure they turned around early enough for the first story for AW, and I'm writing this on Monday 11 am (about 10 minutes after waking up) and I have about 6 hours to write and finish the story and... I don't know if I even want to try because it'll mean a lot of focus from no focus... Although I'll have all evening to recover I suppose...

I'm trying to say more but anytime I start writing another sentence something inside me says no, so apparently part of me doesn't want to share. And I've learned to listen to that voice because when I share despite its no, only bad things seems to come from that.

So how did this week go?

 

I did the three self care tasks. I missed out on the short story (because I didn't write it on Monday either). I got some other to dos done or mostly done.

 

I did a small celebration of advent. I looked for candles through a whole mall, more or less nothing.

 

I played a lot of GW2. I enjoyed myself.

 

My verdict is that it was a good week for what it was. I finally had a kind of wake up call on Sunday that I plan to continue following through on.

Week #10 (#49) - Dec 4 to 10

 

I have some new conviction for this week. I won't talk about them because then they tend to not happen.

 

I want to once again aim for three self care tasks, preferably beyond what new stuff I get for BL, but I'll see.

I want to have fun and write the short story for the week.

I also want to make progress and/or finish several to dos.

Not sure exactly how it happened, today I mean. I was up late (2:40 am) last night and didn't wake up until 11 am. Not good since I have a call at 9 am tomorrow, ugh.

 

I played GW2 all afternoon. Took a shower and went to community dinner since it changed to being in house (probably wouldn't have otherwise). And boy, did I have fun and eat good food.

 

I mostly talked with a couple of Japanese people, one who can speak pretty good English and one who speak less English but more than he knows (if I'm any judge). Then another friend joined and man, haha. I've not laughed this much or this loudly for a long long time. It also helped that they laughed openly and loudly. I'm not saying that is the only right laughter, but you know when you are in situations where you feel like you have to smother your laughter? Either just make it more quiet and socially-polite or even all the way? Well, with them I could just laugh out loud.

 

My brain is so tired right now. Mostly because I had to concentrate to hear what they said, they spoke a little quietly and sometimes they spoke English in a more Japanese way. And apparently it conveys some fame to be a writer, lol. A couple of people wanted to shake my hand just because I was a writer. O_o Not that I mind, but... eh?
