I may be taking a break from wrestling challenges but it doesn't mean I am going to stop ass kicking. In fact, there are some throwbacks in this challenge to stuff I started this time last year. More on that later ;)

 

So this series of challenges will take a different format to how I have been doing my challenges recently. There are 6 challenges left of 2016, one for each season of Buffy if we forget Riley existed. Which we do. There will be some minor spoilers so if you haven't seen Buffy yet why are we friends? you might want to reconsider following this challenge but dudes and dudettes, it's been, like, TWENTY YEARS the statute of spoiler limitations must have run out by now. 

 

So for this challenge my main foe is The Master as he was the Big Bad in Buffy season one. Deffy's nemesis is carbs. They have been the downfall of many a hot booty and this hot booty is no exception. To defeat The Master, I have to keep eating my bastardised version of paleo, but The Master is not the only villain of this season. I will battle two or three different foes each week, split into different days ahead of time so I have a proper schedule. 

 

The Main Goals

1. Continue following the bastardised version of paleo but also count calories too. I want a total deficit of 25,000 calories by the last day of the challenge

 

2. Do 100 elliptical KMs 

 

3. Lift 15 times

 

4. Get 1,500 total fitness minutes by the last day of the challenge. 

 

Life Goals

1. Finish my online Panini Euro 2016 sticker album, preferably before my boyfriend (The Heron, or TH from now on) currently at 71% vs TH's 67%

 

2. Finish all outstanding gifts. I had a fault on my sewing machine but now that's done I can crack on. I'm only a whole month late.... 

 

3. Make sure my books are up to date and submit my tax declaration for the last tax year. 

 

4. Finish current book (The Dust that Falls from Dreams by Louis de Bernieres) and read another one in full. 

 

5. Get to at least 80% on my huge History of the World book on Kindle. 

 

6. Oil pull 15 times (it's a coconut oil/mouth thing)

Also this challenge I will be roughhousing with TH again. We tried wrestling each other last year and we had a lot of fun but this year I want to kick it up a notch and actually learn some self defence. I have wanted to train with TH for ages but his fitness level is not what mine is and he isn't too keen on the idea of attending classes so I am going to try and tempt him with some home lessons and online tutorials in the hope he gets the bug and we can move to bigger and better things. At the very least I am going to buy some boxing punching mitts so he can help me with drills. 

 

I am also continuing my quest to get a majorly hot booty. I want mine to rival Jen Selter's:

and I will not stop my mission until it does. I have this weird thing where I make TH judge my butt and give me a 'Percentage to Jen Selter' score and I currently stand at 42% Seltered. I'd like to reach at least 50% by the end of this challenge.

Week One - Graded B +

Week one has been really successful. I only took one rest day (the day I was waiting for a phone call), I got a total deficit of 6659 calories, I did 30 elliptical kilometres and logged 421 total fit minutes (just over 7 hours). My food has been great with loads of freggies and new paleo-ish recipes and I love the one day a week as a variance so I can go a little mad with the white carbs once a week and not feel like I am totally depriving myself. And if I am craving anything, I only have to wait a maximum of 6 days before I can have it and I can hack anything for 6 days. I am having a really strong craving for Victoria sponge cake with cream and strawberries though. Which is possibly the most English thing I can imagine perhaps with the exception of hooliganism and tea. 

 

I beat my opponents with 69% (Luke) and 67% (Amy's Mom) which is enough but I would like higher scores than this in future. I think the Luke goal was pretty ambitious and I had a technical issue with Amy's Mom so my low score on that isn't entirely deserved but rules is rules. 

 

Week Two - Graded E

Urgh the comparison between this week and last week is shocking. TH is off work which always makes things much harder although I don't know why since he is supportive of all I do, he just doesn't want to do it too. Add to this that I have been feeling woozy with a head cold that has not yet broken and the injury I have too and it's been something of a disaster. This explains why I haven't got my kms and lifting sessions, but the rest of it  - well there is just no excuse for me abandoning my eating goals, except for perhaps the night my oven broke and we were left at 8 pm with nothing to eat. 

 

My total deficit for this week is -857, I got 10 kms, lifted once and got a total of 189 fitness minutes. I only did one oil pull, and I got 75% in the battle vs Miss French and 100% vs The Zookeeper, but overall I am not happy with my progress this week. I need to do better, being ill does not excuse such a terrible performance.

 

Week Three - Graded F

A very disappointing week. There was no deficit to speak of but quite a large surplus (-1850, wtf). Hardly any exercise due to injury so I only made a dent of 75 fitness minutes for that goal with no lifting. The latter was due to injury so I won't give myself a hard time about that, and the same can be said for overall fitness minutes but there is little excuse for having a surplus rather than a deficit. 

 

I did two oil pulls and defeated both my opponents with a 50% victory against Darla and a 100% victory against Moloch. 

 

I have a lot of making up to do for the last twelve days. 

 

Let's do this. 

 

Week Four - Graded C

Eating hasn't been spectacular this week because I am doing that thing again where I decide I can eat whatever I like as long as I stay within my calories, and then I proceed to go over my calories anyway. I have highlighted some areas for change in the next challenge. I completely failed my first foe battle and I aced my second so that was a mixed bag. I got a deficit of 2780 calories, did 30 kms and 453 workout minutes. I did 3 lifting sessions and aggravated my injury and no oil pulls because gross.

Lessons Learned

 

Dear Deftona, 

 

- Be realistic. Wanting to eat 35 portions of freggies in four days means almost 9 portions a day. You can do this occasionally (for the Pancakes!) but it isn't a good idea to do it for too long, especially when you're trying to run a large deficit. 

 

- Having one variance day a week is a great idea because whatever you are craving that is off plan, you only have to wait a maximum of 6 more days to have it and you can totally do that. You're a strong, independent woman who don't need no cake. 

 

- This also allows you flexibility to let life happen and eat out sometimes because letting life happen is pretty important and you've suffered in the past by allowing things like this to throw you off plan and fuck up your progress so be smart and don't let that happen. 

 

- Cake for breakfast is not a good idea, and not for the blatantly obvious reason that it's a pretty shit bet nutritionally. Breakfast probably is important, not because it 'fires up your metabolism' but because if you want it to, it can set a precedent. So for the rest of the challenge, try to take the view that a breakfast full of good stuff sets the mind frame and the eating pattern for the whole day. Let it go to shit from then on all you like but let's at least make the deal that the first thing you eat every day has to be a good choice, right?

 

- Eating out is the worst thing you can do. You cannot be trusted to consistently make good choices so you should probably start with limiting it. If you're getting sick of tracking and counting everything then go out, buy ingredients, and cook whatever it is you want at home. 

 

- When buying treats, but them in SINGLE SERVINGS. Then you only have to cope with one day being ballsed up, not two (or three)

I likey!  I must admit I haven't seen Buffy yet.  I've promised to watch on other Buffy threads in the past and I did start but I haven't gotten that far.  Maybe I'll watch along with your challenges.  So 1 season per challenge?

Yep! One season per challenge but I am missing out season four.

You should both watch Buffy with me! The first season is a little juvenile (for want of a better word) but it really grew up with its audience and it just gets better and better.

Curious about oil pulling, I'd like to know if you feel any changes. I've read a lot about it and tried some time ago but it didn't seem to do anything for me :(

I will let you know! I have only tried it once and after I got past the initial 'this is really gross' bit, I didn't hate it and my mouth did feel cleaner. I think it's too early to tell but hopefully by week 5 I will know! Thanks for your support again Lara :D

Day One Write Up

Yesterday was a great start to my challenge and that the boards went up made it even better. I did a 5K on the elliptical as a warm up and followed it with a full lifting session, making great progress regarding weight increases. Food was good, with ham and some pineapple for breakfast, a protein shake for lunch and a bourbon beef rib and goat cheese salad with chicken wings on the side for dinner.
