Leigh: Logical, Pragmatic, and Lazy as Hell

Leigh

Recommended Posts

Leigh has a problem. Leigh is not very healthy, she has a high body fat percentage, doesn't get very much sleep and doesn't always eat very well. She has minor body aches most of the time, including crunchy knees, tension in her back, shin splints, and shoulder pain. All of these things crop up on any given day and make her slightly cranky. Leigh also has a great deal of difficulty finding clothes that fit her shape, and would really like to be able to solve that minor problem as well

If Leigh can create and stick to eating within a set list of healthy foods and drinks, get consistent sleep each night and create and follow a fitness plan she should be able to reduce her aches and pains, manipulate her shape to fit into a wider variety of clothing, and stop wasting her free time napping when she could be hanging out with her girl-friend, reading a good book, going to the gym, having fun or keeping her house in order.

Leigh is going to spend week 0 working on a rough plan for what kinds of foods and drinks she should be eating and what things she should be avoiding outright and what things are acceptable as occasional splurges into bad for her snack times. Leigh is also going to do some research into creating a fitness plan that will get her moving on the path towards being more awesome on a slow and steady basis so as to not leave herself so tired and sore as to be unable to function outside of full on cranky-pants mode during the day.

Leigh would like, by the end of the challenge, to be committed to a sleep schedule, sticking to her list of acceptable foods at a rate of 85% and be going to the gym twice a week at minimum and working according to her fitness plan.

Leigh has reasonable expectations and will be satisfied with being within an hour of her sleep schedule, eating at 70% and going to the gym twice a week regardless of following a fitness plan.

Leigh knows what she needs to do to get shit done, she is capable of accomplishing these things in a timely fashion but she is also easily distracted and prone to laziness.

Foods and Drinks

Leigh will be permitted and encouraged to eat any of the following things on a regular basis:

  • Vegetables: cucumber, celery, tomato, peppers, onion, cabbage, lettuce, squash, broccoli, snow peas, potatoes, carrots, etc
  • Fruits: bananas, strawberries, gala apples, pineapple, grapefruit
  • Meats: chicken, tuna, salmon, pork, shrimp,
  • Other: almonds, eggs, tea, coffee, water
  • Kefir in moderation to see if she can improve her immune system a bit

Leigh is to seriously limit if not entirely remove the following things from her diet:

  • cheap quality meats that contain more chemicals than anything else (hot dogs, deli meat, most of the meat from work...)
  • noodles, rice, bread, chips, crackers, cookies (sobs), donuts, muffins, wraps,
  • deep fried deliciousness eg: onion rings, fries, mozzarella sticks, chicken strips at restaurants etc
  • pop, juice, chocolate milk, iced caps, anything from starbucks, energy drinks

Sleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep

Leigh will go the fuck to bed at 8:45 pm on Sunday-Thursday nights without fail. She will only be allowed an exception due to special circumstances such as missing a bus home, her brother coming for a random visit, unavoidable family drama. Leigh will aim to go to bed no later than 2 am on Friday and Satuday nights and she will aim to be awake no later than 11 am on Saturday and Sunday.

Fitness Plans

For copyright reasons, Leigh cannot post her plan because she signed an end user agreement to not share this shit illegally. She will however say that she dropped $100 and bought herself the epic digital version of the Modern Women's Guide to Strength Training and she is going to follow the level one program for all 16 weeks of it. Leigh will report on how she feels and what insane little things she finds difficult or hilariously easy along her program.

Wow, I feel like I could have written this if I were more articulate. I wish you luck, I'm interested to see how you do and will be taking notes.

In the meantime, this blog is pretty body positive and has some decent advice about dressing for body types and stuff. You may like it, if you don't already know it all, since you seem pretty savvy about that stuff. https://insideoutstyleblog.com/

Leigh is amused that two Nerds have stuck with the third person for parts of their posts :P

I've not had much luck in getting my other half to do much at all :( Her depression is on the rise and that tends to put serious limits on my ability to persuade her to do things. But it usually resolves itself in a few days and if not, there is likely nothing I can do about it.

I understand how brutal depression can be because I see it on a daily basis but I will only push so far. If the sad person is unable or unwilling to put in the effort to tell the little troll in their brain that tells them they are worthless/useless/unloved etc to shut the fuck up and then actively try to do something fun and/or productive then I'm not going to waste my time trying to shout over that little troll. It is my job as a friend and as family to encourage the people around me but they still have to make the changes on their own.

I do have plans to hit up the gym on Wednesday with my sister though :)

Leigh clicked on a link a little while ago on some random post from @RES and got her hands on a digital copy of MWGST. (Modern Women's Guide to Strength Training) because it includes three 16 week programs for stuff to do!

This means that Leigh will spend less time doing research and coming up with a plan and more time actually doing something physically good for her. She is also determined to take a crack at improving her posture by following the advice from an excellent post on The Art Of Manliness. Leigh is currently the alpha in her house and she wants to stand tall and proud amongst the tiny little people she lives with. She man only be a half inch taller than the next in line but he slouches like mad and she wants to make that look a lot more like an inch or more :P

Also there is a very reasonable chance it will improve some shoulder issues she has been dealing with. Leigh is sick and tired of almost collapsing from sharp pain whenever she sneezes. Trigger points at a bitch people! And Leigh has one the size of a golf ball under her right shoulder blade.

That sounds a lot like what I am currently dealing with! The worst.

Does it feel like a little ball of rage when you sneeze of cough? Between the back of your ribs and just under your shoulder blade?

If it is, grab a tennis ball and lay on top of it on the floor and roll it around until it hits that spot then park yourself right there for a minute or two, or as long as you can handle the twingy pain. I used to get someone to rub the hell out of it for me but from what I've read it seems that constant pressure is far more effective than rubbing at it.

Oh! And apparently some of those posture things I plan on doing can help a hell of a lot with this as well. If you're dealing with the same type of thing that I am let me know and I'll toss the link at you :)

Ooh. I will definitely try rolling. I'm not sure why I didn't think of that. It's more like a line of rage than a ball of rage, but it is right under the shoulder blade so it sounds somewhat similar.

Ahh lines of rage. I've accidentally pissed off one of my latts and had a long line of rage before. Rolling made me want to cry like a little bitch but man did it ever feel better like ten minutes later!
