LadyWitch - Countdown to PT

Recommended Posts

I have a one week holiday in Spain 11-18th June, and my birthday 29th June. Both of these things will impact what I eat and how much I move. I’m planning on the holiday being quite active, with some form of exercise every day, but I’m not silly enough to think that I’ll be able to stick to my ‘diet’ completely while away. As such, my goal for that week is to maintain my weight, and try to be conscious of how much I’m moving.

My birthday is on a Wednesday this year, and I’m waiting to see if I’ll have to work it or not (my holiday form is in for approval). If I don’t, then my plan is to go to the gym and have a massage, if I have to work it, then I’ll still go to the gym, but the massage would have to wait. The weekend after, we’re hoping to take a group of friends to a local climbing gym for an intro session! I’ve never been climbing before, so it’s scary as hell, but it was my idea so no backing out now!

Once that’s out of the way, I can focus on my primary goals. Overall, I need to get fitter. My weight doesn’t matter as much as being strong and healthy, although I would like to see the scales start to go down. I’ve had the ‘text book’ for the PT course come through, so I’m going to start studying for that. The course starts the 15th October, but throws you almost straight into assessments, so you need to do all the studying on your own beforehand. I know it’s still a long way off, but I don’t want to leave it to the last minute, like I always did at uni :P

Goals:

1: Eat 140g of protein a day

2: Eat 8 portions of freggies a day

3: Workout 3x a week

4: At least 1 running session a week

5: Spend at least 1 hour each week studying for the PT course.

Current measurements:

Weight: 14st 5lb

Chest: 41.5 in

Waist: 35 in

Hips: 46 in

R Thigh: 27 in

L Thigh: 27 in

R Bicep: 13 in

L Bicep: 13 in

I know you've had a lot of changes with the job, so hopefully this month everything can calm down and you can rock it!

I sincerely hope so! I've had about as much 'change' as I can manage, would like time to set some new habits in place :)

Following along, LadyWitch! And am I right in gathering you have a new job? How do you like it?

Yay! Hi Deftona!

I started it about a month ago now, so I'm passed the week 3 'danger zone'! Its... ok. I spend most of my days bored, and struggling to find things to do, but this should pick up after the end of June, as that's the end of the companies tax year, and I'll be able to get trained in some different things (I hope!). But it pays really really well, and I need the money, so I can cope with being bored... The people are nice at least, and its nice to get paid holiday again!

I'm off on holiday TOMORROW!!! Can't wait! Just have another 5 hours of work to get through, and then I'm done for 10 glorious days, 7 of which I'll be spending on a beach with a cocktail in my hand (well, on the beach at least, I don't mix roasting weather with alcohol!)... I probably wont be posting while I'm away, depends on if I get wifi anywhere, so I'll check in when I get back, and post some pics of me doing my best lobster impression!

I've been googling things to do while out there, and between the horse riding, quad biking, water sports, canyoning, kayaking, Segway tours and hiking tours, not to mention the sea and pools, I think I'll be getting my exercise in!

Malaga. Wouldn't have been my first choice, but I won the accommodation in a competition so we've only had to pay for flights :)

So, pre-holiday weigh in is 12st 4lb. I hope I can see a similar number when I get back, but won't kick myself if it goes up. Adios folks!

So... It was an amazing week! We went Parasailing on Monday, Yachting on Tuesday, Horse riding on Thursday and did a ton of walking and swimming in between! Ate good food, had a couple of cocktails and generally basked in the sunshine. It got up to 42 degrees on Monday, which was the hottest day they'd had this year. And all the while it was pissing it down at home!

I'll post some pics later... Once I've recovered from the 3.30am wakeup call :P

So far so good this week.

Monday morning I planned on going to the gym, but due to being out late on Sunday, it didn't happen. Oh well, I thought, I'll go this evening after dinner. Got home from work, got changed into my gym clothes, and waited for my husband to finish cooking dinner. I had planned on being at the gym for 8pm; dinner wasn't ready until 7.50pm :P so by the time I'd eaten and given food a chance to go down, it was too late to go to the gym. Did hit my macros, mostly.

However, I packed my lunch and bag, slept in my gym clothes and got up at 5.45am to get to the gym for its opening time of 6.30am. I restarted my workouts from the beginning (I'm following the Lift Like a Girl programme, had previously got to the end of week 3 but was rather sporadic with it) I did however manage to increase my weights over the last time I did it! I also managed to hit my macros to within a couple of grams on each... Which I was really happy with.

And this morning, I was up at the same time, and in the gym to do a Zombies! Run C25K session. I'm restarting (again) but I'm skipping week 1. So today was week 2 run 1, and it wasn't bad at all. I've been having some issues with my Achilles tendons since the brief job at Vodafone, and they get really tight and painful, but the running drills were ok, and I've been stretching out each time I go to the loo at work, so hopefully I can start to knock that on its head!

My aim is to alternate weight sessions and running sessions and be in the gym 5 mornings a week. Because I missed Monday this week, I'll be going on Saturday to make up for it, but most weeks I want my weekends to be for fun, gym-free activities, like walking, or ice-skating, or climbing... Something that I can do with my hubby and friends (if they're interested!)

Work is being a drag, but I gather that's normal :P I've received my study schedule for the PT course, and I have some assignments to get done before the actual course start date, so I plan on making a start on that tonight, and I'm sticking to my 'hour of studying a day' goal pretty well, by doing it on my lunch breaks. It's now just over 16 weeks until the course starts, and I'm both excited and terrified! What if I fail? What if I pass the course, but no-one wants to be trained by an overweight, unfit 33 year old woman? What if I do get clients and they hate me, or I do something wrong and someone gets hurt?!?!?! ALL the anxiety atm. I'm trying to remind myself that the worst probably wont happen, and even if it does its not the end of the world... And trying to keep in mind the POSITIVES about it. I'll be actively working each day, which will help with my own fitness; I'll be helping other people to better themselves; I'll be doing something fun for a living and escape the dreaded desk (most of the time). It's a work in progress.

So after 3 mornings straight in the gym, I got home from work yesterday (after voting in the referendum) and felt like crap. DOMS had been kicking my ass all day, and then I had a headache and nausea. I was meant to be going out with friends for dinner, but cancelled and went to bed early. Still wasn't feeling great this morning, so made the decision to skip my morning gym session... It was meant to be a C25K sesh so I figure I can always do it this evening if I feel up to it, or I can tag it onto the end of my strength workout tomorrow. Either way, my DOMS has eased a little and I'm feeling better than I was (although my boss thinks I look terrible :P).

As for the referendum... I voted to remain. I think the UK is about to go to hell in a hand basket, and if I wasn't married and just started a new job, I'd be seriously considering uprooting for foreign climes. It seems to be all anyone wants to talk about at work, and I'm already sick of hearing about it. BAH!

Anywho... This weekend my hubby is away for a gaming weekend, so I have the house to myself. I'd like to say I was going to do something fun, but other than my gym session I have planned tomorrow, I'm going to spend the weekend alternating between house work and studying. The house has fallen seriously into a state of emergency on the cleaning and tidying front, and I have two assignments to get done for my PT course. I'm going to try and set aside a couple of hours to re-dye my hair and pamper myself a little, but I'm going to avoid any social arrangements if I can manage it!

It's my birthday next Wednesday (I'll be 33) and I have the day off work. My plan was to go to the gym, then get a massage and spend the rest of the day chilling. And then a friend asked if they should book the day off work so we can do something, and my hubby jumped on board with that... So now I'm not sure what will be happening. I've got my massage booked for 11am, so should still be able to have the morning to gym/relax but god knows what will happen in the afternoon. I'm a little bit annoyed by it all tbh. Since starting the new job I've had very little time to myself, and as an introvert I'm missing it majorly. Hence why I'd planned on keeping myself company. Especially as the Saturday after we're going climbing with friends as my 'party' and probably out for drinks with a ton of other people... Why do I have to be social on my actual birthday if I'm already planning to be on another day?! Oh well... Will do my best to cope :P

My 'diet' has been going fairly well, and I've been getting to within a couple of grams on my protein target every day this week, just need to keep tinkering with it. I'm hoping that I'll see some downward movement on the scales when I weigh in on Monday... I know weight isn't the be-all and end-all, but it's still hard to focus on performance rather than weight loss. Hopefully I'll get better at it as I start to develop my teeny tiny baby muscles into something far more strong and impressive :)

I've just discovered that I can pull my jeans down without undoing them! WOOT! I bought this pair (2 sizes up) just before I started the new job, and they were a little tight. Just shows this exercise/healthy eating malarkey works! Fingers crossed I can keep it up this time :D (even if I can't keep my jeans up ;))

I may have to try on my older/smaller jeans later!

Last week went ok. Had my birthday on Wednesday, so treated myself to a gym session followed by a massage. The masseuse commented on how muscular my calf muscles are, and I loved it! Made me feel badass… Now I just need the rest to catch up!

Saturday we went to a climbing gym for the first time. We did both roped climbing and bouldering, and it was great fun! Terrified the crap out of me, especially letting go of the wall to belay down… But I did it. I also managed to climb all the way to the top of one of the walls! So proud of myself for not chickening out. The intro session also apparently included membership of the club, so we will definitely be going again!

Monday morning I dropped my phone in the loo, so it’s been sat in a bag of rice ever since; will find out tonight if it’s survived. If it hasn’t then I guess I’ll be getting a new phone at the weekend. Not how I planned on spending that money, but my iPhone was getting a bit temperamental so an upgrade was probably due. It’s been really strange not having a phone with me, not just because I’m out of contact during the day, but because of all the other things I use it for like the c25k programme, my bedtime meditation, even just to tell the time! It’s definitely eye opening just how much I’ve become dependent on it. Not necessarily a good realisation.

Yesterday I signed up to a work charity event. They’re doing a walking challenge called the Olympic Torch Relay. The person in each division who gets the highest step count wins an extra day of holiday. I WANT THAT!!! So, between the 18th-22nd July I will be skipping my morning workouts and walking to work, 6 miles each way! Should take about 2 hours or so, but will try and do a test walk before then.

Not sure if I’m going to have lost many inches off my measurements when I do them on Sunday, I know I haven’t lost any ‘weight’. But my fuel (I’m not calling it a ‘diet’ anymore!) hasn’t been great this challenge due to the holiday and my birthday, so the next challenge will definitely be focusing more on hitting my macros each day.

This is also the third time I’ve typed out an update. My work computer only allows you a set time of ‘personal’ use and once a website has loaded it needs to be refreshed every few minutes or it locks you out. Needless to say I keep forgetting this, and it keeps timing out when I hit ‘post’! This time I’ve typed it out in a word doc, so it should work… *fingers crossed*

I'll do my actual weigh in on Monday morning as usual. Can't say I'm particularly happy with the rate of loss here... 1/2 an inch on my bust, 1/2 an inch on my hips... Feeling a bit deflated right now. I know progress takes time, but I'm so sick of not fitting into any of my nice clothes :(

Thanks Michi! I guess I'm just feeling a bit annoyed at how slow it’s going. I weighed in this morning at 14st 4lb, which means I lost a grand total of 1lb during this challenge. And with my measurements barely changing I guess I’ve hit that mental roadblock that gets us all at some point, the ‘it doesn’t work, so why am I bothering?’ thing. I’m trying to ignore it and focus on lifting heavier weights, but I’m even stalling a bit on that, simply because my grip strength isn’t up to lifting the increasing weights. I nearly dropped a 14lb barbell on my foot on Friday :P

New challenge is already typed out and ready to post. Will do it as soon as I know the new boards are up. Going to try and keep consistent with my workouts (other than one week where I’m planning to do something different) and hope that I start to see some progress.

I hate that mental roadblock!

I feel you on the stats not moving. But you went on vacation and had the house to yourself AND you were still able to make some progress. Plus you were here through the whole challenge!

We are all going to have challenges where we struggle (some of us more than others!). But it's a process - just stick with it and good things will happen.
