Alaysia Gets Ready

Week one summary:

yOZiAjxe0Js40.gif

It got rough there for a bit. However, I was able to get 2/3 of my lifting done, 2/2 of my cardio done.

I cooked 4/4 make-ahead meals, 5/7 days where I ate 100+grams of protein, and completed 8/6 continuing education credits for the week. Nice to know I'm heading into next week with 2 hours of cec done already.

I also completed 2/5 of my quests.

I expect next week to be much stronger!

Lagertha waits to be impressed.

If it was easy, everyone would do it. Just now catching up, but I'm insanely impressed by you powering thought that bit of self doubt and continuing on.

Awesome things!

Just think! You can spend those two hours saved this week eating steak!  Get that protein!  Solid week one!

I'm with Grymm - I think that your week one was pretty great!

Onward and upward!

Thank you! Week one did seem to get its legs back under it, didn't it?

I did pull up out of that nose dive. Seeing it that way, I'm kinda giddy. Thank you. :)

6/20/16 Workout B

Warmup: 10min on treadmill, shoulder dislocates (at home), some stretching, body weight squats.

  • Squats 5x5 at 30lbs
  • Overhead Press 5x5 at 25lbs (Form video)
  • Deadlift 1x5 at 80lbs
  • Swiss Ball Crunch 2x15

Squats were much better today. Able to reach good depth every time. Did tend to pitch forward occasionally when I forgot to press through my whole foot, including the outside of it.

Not happy that I had to stop at 1 set of deadlifts. I definitely could have done way more.

I'm not too worried on my form on the OHP, just yet. I think I'm ok on it for now. I might start losing form once the weight gets to be much tougher.

But, seriously, I did not want to only do one set of deadlifts. That kind of sucked. It was barely worth the effort of working out the plate math and putting the set-up together. I spent more time assembling and disassembling the bar than I did lifting. Totally blows.

Why did you stop?  5x5 will say that 1 set is enough because you're squatting, but more is allowed.  I would say more than 1 set is a good idea if you are knew to the lift.  While you're lifting within your capabilities and making technique/neurological gains, multiple sets can help.  I've been doing more sets myself.  If it helps, you can say you are doing deadlift sets as an accessory exercise to your deadlifts.

When the squats get heavy and finishing 25 is really a push, then you'll probably be happy not to have to crank out 25 deadlifts at a similar effort level.

Because I'm an instruction follower and fear the consequences of not doing as I am told. That is seriously pathetic when written out like that. lol I need to learn to get my rebel on. :) I think  you're right and I'm definitely doing more next time if I think I can do it!

I think as long as you are recovered between workouts, you can up the volume or intensity.  Maybe additional sets won't lead to proportionately more gains (or they might - everyone is different), but even if not, you can work on technique.

Gym Tale:

I was on the recumbent bike getting in some cardio while my daughter was in her Judo class. Someone comes up next to my shoulder and doesn't leave. A tall male by the side glance I get of him. I'm reading on my Kindle app and I'm thinking the person might be reading over my shoulder, so I casually switch through some apps. He stays. He shifts from foot to foot, but that's about it. I'm only 15 minutes into my workout and I don't want to leave. He's not bugging me, but he's totally in my personal bubble. He's closer than the lady on the bike next to me is. So I'm trying to figure out what to do when he moves even closer. And then I suddenly just know what is going on. Normally I turn the TV on the cardio equipment off when I use them. I hadn't this time and it was on cartoons. As soon as the credits rolled the person walked away and I glanced over and sure enough, it was a teen. He had that look to him, that slack faced look, that told me he was autistic. My son is also autistic and I'm pretty sure he wouldn't do the same thing, but I think I'll still talk to him about it, because damn. The kid nearly ended up in my lap! LOL I'll be making sure to go ahead and always turn off the TV from now, and not set bait for any other wanderers. :D

I totally sang it as I read it! Did you, Grymm? Hahaha!

I couldn't remember the first word for a couple minutes so I had to hum it over and over until I got it.

Went to Tai chi and Zumba today. And since it got to 111 degrees today, I say I earned a few extra brownie points for just getting in the oven formerly known as my car. Some lady came walking into Tai Chi while talking on her phone. Stood there a minute and then must have realized we were not, in fact, waiting for Zumba (the ten of us in a line moving in synchronized slow mo might have tipped her off) and left. She later came in late to Zumba and decided she needed to stand in front of me and I was in the front row. Her world must be awful nice.

Made another freezer meal, but I've missed my protein goal the last three days. I'm out of eggs and the idea of making any extra stops in this heat is just... ugh.

Also, I am not a gamer. I'm sorry. However, I truly want to be. But I haven't really paid any attention to games since Mario Bros. 3. I remember people in my high school computer class playing Doom.

f46iWuMqIGuXe.gif Friggin, Doom, man!

And when my brother tried to get me to play on his new Playstation, I dropped the controller when it vibrated in my hand. Oh, how we laughed and laughed.

Other than some Tomb Raider and a few other PS1 era games, I haven't really played. And now there is soooo much! I tried playing WoW, but I couldn't get my character to move very well. And my computer does not have the ability to play that game, anyway. I have a PS3 my friend gave me. And I'm about rewarding myself with a new game. I'm very interested in Skyrim. I'd like to find an activity that is just pure fun. Something that doesn't involve taking care of family, house, or career. Just some fantasy fun time.

Anyone have any input on this? Are there newer games that might fit better? Is Skyrim not as neat as it looks?

I adore Skyrim, and I've played it every which way. Just normal, vanilla, doing quests, perma-death runs (die once, game over), play as a merchant with a paid escort to get you from town to town to sell things (being a travelling alchemist breaks the game you get so rich)

That last way is probably my favorite

Excellent! I liked the freedom Skyrim seemed to offer, so I'm very excited about the vote for it!

I started Olaf's journey and will be rooting for him! Yay, go, Olaf! Get you some shoes!

@ixaera, I am having so much fun watching Olaf's story! It's cracking me up and I can't wait to start playing this game. Which means I should probably walk away from Youtube and get to the gym so I can earn the right to play it! Thank you so much for sharing the link!

The NF minecraft 1.10 server is still non-functional for me.  He's looking into it.  Someone else has exactly the same problem, so I don't think it's me.

Of course! That is my second choice. It does look awful fun. My only issue with that one, and why it didn't get put at the top of my list, is that my kids LOVE Minecraft. I rented it once and they played the hell out of it. I'm afraid they'll steal my time on it. ...I do have some padlocks that could fit on their bedrooom doors, though... I figured I'd wait until school started again before I got Minecraft. It'll be my second reward game!

I really should look into Minecraft...

:D

The second series about Olaf IMO wasn't as funny. Still amusing, didn't have me rolling like the first though.

If you find you like Skyrim, I recommend the Homestead DLC! (Just be careful if you get a house in Falkreath... there's a giant that likes to visit. He killed my steward!)
