Black Daiquiri relearns how to frolic!

Recommended Posts

FROLICKING IS ABOUT TO COMMENCE!

I need to frolic. Dance. Move. Become strong.

To that end, I will continue with “moving” in my challenge. I am leaving it open - telling myself to walk 5 times a week when I do something like gardening and then not counting that workout kind of makes me feel unmotivated. So, this round, moving is pretty much anything that I can do that gets me off my butt and isn’t typical day-to-day stuff. Some examples, going out and walking, yoga (if I can get my wrists to allow it), Just Dance, serious deep cleaning of the house, or gardening. If it involves serious movement and uses all the muscles, it counts. I will get up and move at least 5x per week.

Muscles are needed for frolicking. I mean, you can’t frolic if you’re just a puddle of goo... My second goal is to add some strength training. This is a step up, so I’m adding some flexibility. I am going to attempt to stick with one strength training exercise per week, but if I need to switch it up, that will be allowed. My initial plan is:

  1. Squats/wall sits
  2. Wall pushups
  3. Side planks
  4. Tricep extensions/kick backs

As a bonus, I’m gonna give this one a shot at least once a week: http://darebee.com/workouts/active-stroll-workout.html

Oh I absolutely will! Starting phase two of my diastasis recti recovery workout and it's actually getting really fun lol. Though I may indeed have to check out your stroller workout and wedge it into whatever I end up discovering as my challenge. I haven't even closed out last months. I should make a goal to be on time with updates... Lol

Following! Have fun and stay cool with that 5k!

Glad I'm not the only one with Tapatalk issues. I have to resubscribe every time I reply or post, it is SO annoying. And formatting is eaten up too. Looking for another forum app I can use...

Pretty much what @tourennatrix said. I always had issues with replying using tapatalk - duplicate words, erasing sentences, all sorts of weird behavior. So I pretty much gave up on that app and just use Chrome to catch up.

Yesterday was our Insane Inflatable 5k and it was totally insane!

I don't have any pictures of it (sadface), but my brother brought his gopro and daughter's boyfriend wore it attached to his baseball cap so we've got a recording I should be able to share in the next day or so (as soon as brother uploads/edits it). I did have a small moment of "I suck so much!!" because I chose to walk around two of the obstacles. I mean, I had reason - mid-80s with full sun and humidity and climbing up obstacles and hopping around and jumping and PARKOURing... all without any physical build up (for reasons of baby)... I just physically couldn't do it.

That part of me that was disappointed crept in and I just wanted to cry. I mean, I totally get it and would much rather skip obstacles than to give myself some sort of heart attack, but it was still super disappointed that I pushed myself as far as I could go and it wasn't enough to be able to jump and play on the obstacles with everyone else. /sigh

But, I have a year to prep for the next round. And I will obstacle the shit out of it!

Today was family reunion day with the side of my family where I don't really know the extended side all that much (well, ok. I don't know many extended family members on the other side either...), so that was a long drive for some mediocre food and a small amount of conversation. I didn't get much done - ok, I didn't get anything done for my quests yet. Weather this week is supposed to be ridiculously hot, so I'm not sure I'll get my stroller walk in, but I can definitely do those other exercises! I got this.

Hell yeah! Just hell yeah to all of this I felt like I could jump up and down for you! And don't be sad that your body couldn't do it, baby recovery is hard work (my doc said it can take up to 10 months to get back to as normal as you'll be. AAAAAAS normal as you'll be lol). You showed up and that's a hell of a lot more than most non recovering people can say! Let the tears flow then wipe em away and go continue kicking the absolute ass you've managed to be kicking this whole time!

Things are going! :)

Yesterday, I managed to sweep the stairs and the living room (largish task since it also includes sliding the living room furniture around - nothing heavy though!) *and* I did my squats.

Both yesterday and today I managed to get a large chunk of work done on a work project. My work's not difficult most times (web design) but it can be done consuming and it's sometimes hard to start and stop like one has to do with a new baby. But my daughter and her boyfriend stepped up to mostly take care of potato so I could focus and get the project close enough for a client viewing.

Tomorrow, I have a training thing work-wise and my mom's coming to visit sometime during the day and husband's friend is coming for the weekend, so I'm going to try to do some basic cleaning for all of that. Plus more squats.

I got this.  ^5

I have to add that having hypermobile thumbs right now really sucks what with the sliding thumbs under baby's arms and into armpits where most of the 14ish lbs then rests on my thumbs. Not to mention lifting the baby's butt by the thigh/knee putting more strain on that joint.

I try to be conscious about it and keep my thumb slightly bent to avoid hyper-extending it, but it's hard with a squirmy babe squirming around...

Glad I can keep up with PT appointments to give those muscles and joints some much needed good attention!

Week 1 recap. I did things. Not as many things as I wish I had, but still accomplished some things.

My weekend was kind of blah, though. My mom was here one day and my husband's friend the weekend. Just a lot of things going on and I was headachey for most of it. I was a bit emotionally bruised. I don't know if I heard a comment in passing or if my being self conscious around husband's friend about post-pregnancy physicalness was just me, but I spent the whole weekend feeling judged for my inactivity. Friend is a good friend, but because he mostly lives alone, he doesn't quite grok how things are in a family setting - plus, our interests as a family are to sit around and play video games, whereas his are more physical like building things or doing stuff outside, so I already always feel a but judged whenever he visits. So, I was on edge because of that. I do a lot, I just don't do much physically yet (but I'm working on it!!).

But before all of this, while my mom was here, she called one of my aunts and while they were on the phone, based on what my mom responded, I could tell my aunt asked if I'd lost all that baby weight. So, I get to hear my mom hem and haw around that answer, followed up with talking about the baby who, in my mom's words had been fussy all day (which he had not - he'd just been a little fussy when it was time to eat or diaper change, because he's actually a super happy and calm baby except for those things most days).

Nobody said anything directly, and after talking with husband after Friend had left, he said they'd never actually had any sort of conversation about me or my lack of fitness, so I don't even know if I completely misheard something innocuous or if my insecurities were just raring their head, but it kind of just sucked.

So, yeah, I was a bit emotionally bruised and on edge all weekend. Didn't help that my sister, who is my escape excuse, was off having a blast on her intensive trip (and I'm super excited and happy for her). Plus, throughout all of this, I didn't really have an escape unless I wanted to hang out in my bedroom with the baby. >.>

But, onto week 2!

Tonight, the heat was a bit less, plus with it being Solstice the sun set a bit later, so husband and I and peanut went out for a walk. It was a nice (and yucky-humid) evening, though it was dark by the time we got back around to the house, so it was only a 1/2 hr walk.

My plan for strength this week is to work on side planks. I'm also going to make the time to sit down with that diastasis recti workout and figure out my plan with getting that taken care of.

Anyways. It's late and potato's gonna wake up earlier than I'm sure I'm going to want to wake up, so I should get myself to bed.

Aw! Don't listen to anything anyone has to say about you right now, even if it's your own brain. From the sound of it no one is judging and you're just worrying. And if anyone is talking tell them they can piss off. Dudes won't understand cause they don't go through what we do at all for the ten months to carry and then ten to recover so they've got no room to speak, and women folk of the family always wanna know that weight loss crap but none of them lost baby weight in a day. Point being don't let them define your recovery when it's more important for you to simply recover. And don't worry about the fussy comment either, most don't remember their time with their own babies after a long period without children about for the fussy times so I'm sure any fuss sticks out to them. You just take care of you and that sweet little baby. I love the p90x quote and it'll apply here; do your best, forget the rest. And of course if you even need an ear or someone to vent to in the heat of things even there's always nerdfitness messenger and I'm always glad to be about :)

Thanks @Fenyx! I definitely needed to talk about it and husband was very good with me when I brought up how I was feeling (there had been other stuff that had happened that we needed to talk about, so it was a good convo all around). I keep reminding myself that I didn't gain the weight overnight, so I'm not really likely to lose it overnight either.

<3 Today is going pretty well. Baby's sleeping and I'm about to run a couple of errands while daughter watches him which will be good. Even though I don't like Walmart - I'll take any excuse to get out of the house (though I still think walking just for the sake of walking by yourself is boring...)

.....

And... I totally forgot to post this earlier. :P

PT is tomorrow and I am super looking forward to it. My hands and wrists and elbows and shoulders have been giving me fits. >.<
