Brogo Goes to Khal-E-wood, part II: I do my own stuntz (do-over)

Recommended Posts

Working on benching bodyweight, and trying to get a little more limber and getting the spring back in my step.

Something about an action movie and doing my own stunts.

Goal 1: Gym twice a week.

Goal 2: Hit nutrition goals: 3200 cals/day, 150g Protein

Goal 3: Get Bendy once a day

Goal 4: Jump, core, or pullups once a day

Not a verbatim repeat of my last challenge, but that's the gist.

LUYL1: Finish a draft of my paper. Just have a first draft, complete by the end of challenge. I spent the last week in Madison (where grad school was) working to remove a bunch of road blocks that have been holding me back on this. Doesn't have to be submitable, just done. 7000 words + figures.

Also, to keep my head in the game on this, I need to do one thing a day. Analyse a file, write a sentence or two, revise a sentence or two.. Hell make a figure, write a paragraph... just sit down and look at it daily and don't let it sit idle.

LUYL2: Pick a new path and start walking it. The paper was leftover from a PhD that I abandoned to do something else... thing is I still don't know exactly what something else is. Basically, my anxiety about the PhD and future career got the better of me and I had to escape. Anyway, going back to work on the paper last week gave me a decent confidence boost and I feel like I'll be okay going forward. I've narrowed it down to a few computery jobs.

(ranked by number)

1)Web Development

1)Data Science

3) Web Design (but I can already program well, why not develop... right?)

4) Software QA

It'll mainly be a choice between WDev and DS. I want to make up my mind very soon, and start doing a Coursera course/specialization on the topic.

Okay. Sad measurements today:

                 Pre-trip to            Post-trip to

                Madtown             Madtown

Weight:     262.0                    267.8

Waist:         37.25"                  41.0"

It's gotta be glycogen, junk, and bloat tho. Should come off quick if I don't slack off too much. (And I was actually 268.2 yesterday)

It'll take me some time to get full on data-porn. There's a two week gap in my spreadsheet, and I need to get back on track before I can make some sexy new graphs.

Here's the last one I made:

Bodyweight052316_zpsmwyfgj6r.png

I'm at 266.6 lbs. currently.

Yesterday I ate

2670 calories

143 g PRO

210 g CHO

142 g Fat

So that's how. That's a really low calories day. I also picked a salad from the garden.

Today I learned that this:

is also called an 'octothorpe.'

I like it. It sounds way cooler than pound sign or hash-tag.

"Please press '1' followed by the octothorpe."

The same people also call an asterisk as sextile. Which sounds like something you'd lay down before you lay down, amirite?

Ugh!

Tonight was a killer. They had me picking... which basically means walking... A LOT! On top of that, I was assigned a special type of picking where I go through and pick all the mistakes and bad items from the bins... those are few and far in between compared to picking for orders, and their algorithms that determine the paths are not as well optimized. So I had a pick job that was intense for picking.

10 hours * 3.5 mph * 2/3 (total proportion of time walking) = 23.33 mi.

And this includes climbing stairs frequently. And the slowest I could have been going is maybe 3 mph, and that still yields 20 mi. And 2/3 is probably an underestimate.

This is a scout's job. Motivates me to finish my paper and get my programming game back in order.

btw: I'm learning Ruby because I'm almost sure I'm going to do a Ruby on Rails web development course.

Now sleep.

I'm still here...

Okay terrible news... no workouts this week, and I've been eating shitty food that I haven't tracked.

I've been very focussed on working on my paper and learning Ruby and shit. And by working on my paper I mostly mean fixing programming bugs, accidentally deleting all the wrong files and then redo-ing things, and then procrastinating writing my results up to learn more Ruby and watch Game of Thrones... which holy shit that was an awesome episode... but as my friend put it recently, just total emotional porn... and I'm not feeling quite right at the moment.

Poor Rickon, poor Wun-wun.

And Yay! Ramsay is finally dead. Hooray!

Oh! Good news: I did see the scale get down to 263.8 this week. So there's that.

I found this out sometime last year when I was randomly reading Snapple facts.  I've historically called it "pound sign" and use it at work to denote pounds.  #octothorpe (pronounced "octothorpe octothorpe").

What's your paper for?  Publication?  I worked on a couple of published papers in college, and they can be the tip of the ice berg for a ton of work.

I learned octothorpe from one of my Ruby books. The author says he calls it that because no one calls it that, so there's less confusion about what he means when he refers to the '#'. Maybe he drinks Snapple too.

It's a scientific research article about the research I did as a grad student.
