This month I'm keeping my challenge really simple and focussing on getting s**t done. No theme, no bells and whistle, just balls. Or something like that..

I'm coming for you, things!

 

Quest 1. Share the awesome.

Keeping this from the last challenge.

Even the suckiest of days contains a little glimmer of hope. At least that's what I'm going to attempt to prove to myself...

Each day I'll post 1 awesome thing that happened. This can be anything that brightened my day even if by a little; whether it be a life altering achievement, hitting a workout goal, or something small like seeing a Deer on the way to work, or something funny that happened during the day.

 

Quest 2. Hold the Plank. 

Mission Objective: Hold a 2 minute plank. I'm currently at around 50-70 seconds, but I'm sure I can get more if I man up.

 

Quest 3. Hit the Trails. 

Throughout the challenge I will do a total 30km of trail running.

 

Quest 4. Do The Thing.

Spend a total of 105 minutes each week working on some form of "life advancement". This works out at just 15 minutes a day, but will more likely be longer sessions over fewer days. This could be anything that helps me level up towards living a better, healthier (and happier!) life. Researching workouts/nutrition, searching for jobs, writing, and general life research stuff will be counted. I'm sure over the course of this challenge this quest will become slightly less vague... Actually doing workouts won't count towards the total.

 

Also, I used a calculator to work out 15x7. What the hell is wrong with me?

Thought I'd do a day 0 trial post.

Quest 1. Share the awesome.

Last month I was desperately trying to increase my Chinup amrap (from 8 reps) I didn't really make any progress though. Today I got 9 reps!

 

Quest 2. Hold the Plank. 

Did a test today, got 63 seconds

 

Quest 3. Hit the Trails. 

N/A. But did have a long walk yesterday and found some cool new routes.

 

Quest 4. Do The Thing.

Read some more of Level Up Your Life, I've been slacking on that this past week.

 

I feel the need to jazz up my challenge, maybe I'll think of a theme?

Another challenge officially begins!

Day 1

Quest 1. Share the awesome.

When the dog is so excited he wags his tail so hard that he can't control his back legs. Never gets old :D

N/A. Did the Darebee Daily Dare (20 moving planks) today with EC, so that's encouraging.

Looking to go for a run tomorrow. Today was strength training day.

 

Quest 4. Do The Thing.

15 minutes spent searching a job site, didn't find anything that took my fancy. Got frustrated with the search not working properly - no, I do not want a Warehouse Manager job in Inverness!

First I need to figure out what i'm good at...

Just a shortish run today. I was tired, but determined to get a run in.

I've been watching a TV show called Springwatch, there was a clip of a tiny Owl assassinating a Moth mid-flight in pitch black darkness. Epic.

Finally got around to watching this week's Collider Jedi Council.

30 minutes job searching. May have found something. Pay wouldn't be great and it would probably be temporary, but it could be interesting. I basically just want out of my current job, maybe less hours, and a more positive working environment.

Spent about 30 minutes researching the NF Academy, decided it would have been perfect for me when I started living healthier, but not worth the cost at this point. Shame I didn't know about NF back then.

Then spent just over 10 minutes reading LUYL, nearly finished now.

Those spiderman videos are awesome, thanks for sharing! I'm feeling kinda the same about the academy. I'll stick to it for this challenge and see how the workouts work out for me (haha) and then decide whether to go for a refund or not. I feel like a lot of the things offered are either on the blog for free or easily set up via habitica and the like or available in similar quality for free on other websites...

Day 8

Quest 1. Share the awesome.

Got a hilarious look from some guy while I was running today. I couldn't tell if it was my Captain America socks, my goofy running hat, or the fact that I kept jumping on logs and running across them...  Civilians just don't understand the habits of us Rebels :D

N/A. Seriously... Need to get on with it.

 

Quest 3. Hit the Trails. 

Ran 7.11km today. Pace was surprisingly fast considering how slow I felt, might have something to do with wanting to get the harder sections over with faster :P

I'm beginning to realise I'm much more of a sprinter than a distance runner. I can walk all the live long day, but running gets exhausting pretty quickly. It might be something to do with my technique though, I've notice I slump at the hips a lot and suck at correcting it.

Trail running goals: Fix posture/technique. Experiment with shorter distances and aiming for speed rather than distance.

In an attempt to get started with creative writing I decided to try my hand at writing short poems, read this article on starting poetry to get things going.

Good boy indeed. The neighbours' dog barks whenever anyone is in the hallway/coming up the stairs/moving around in earshot. It is so annoying.

Yay for plank progress. That's really impressive. 2 minutes may seem like a lot, but you'll get there eventually :)

A new gym is opening just a 5 minute drive from me towards the end of the summer. Spent 15 minutes researching on their website, think it might finally be time to try the whole gym going thing out.

I want to try doing some heavier lifts, and it would be nice to have access to an actual pullup bar and maybe start TRX/gymnastics rings work. Will be a real "20 seconds of courage" moment for me. Might even be a quest in itself.
