Two days late, whoops.

Goal #1: Meal prep on weekends

Two veggies, breakfasts, lunch for a day or two minimum. And some kind of salad ingredients / veggie snacks. I've come to terms with the fact that laziness is the barrier to getting enough vegetables mid-week. Travelling and eating out for a week got me excited to cook my own food again.

giphy.gif

Goal #2: Marathon training

I haven't signed up, but I'm seriously eyeing the Monumental Marathon (Indianapolis, November) and I've started the Jeff Galloway training program. Ran 9 miles last Saturday despite being on vacation (woke up at 5AM to do it, guys!) so I think I'm committed now. Concerned about the neck/shoulder issue that I came home with Monday, but I'm ok with dropping a midweek run here and there if I can keep up the weekend long runs. I'm afraid to tell people because I've 'started marathon training' a million times before getting too lazy or injured to continue. But 9 miles injury free is pretty promising...first marathon, here I come?

giphy.gif

Goal #3: Cross-train 3x/week

So I've done some Stronglifts in the last couple months, but not consistently. I want to do 3 cross-training sessions per week, at least two lifting. Possibility to add in yoga for funsies. Or rucking.

tumblr_my8ydpcl051qdhrnoo1_500.gif

Bahahahahahhahaha no.

Bonus Goal #1: GO TO BED - Sleep 8 hours/night, Meditate/pray in the morning

I'm still struggling with this. Surprisingly difficult to get myself to go to bed early enough to get 8 hours (especially after reading).

BabySlothSleepy.gif

This little guy makes me want to go to bed right now, but sadly office napping is frowned upon.

Bonus Goal #2: Post every day

On my thread, someone else's, whatever. Just do it. Be social. Don't avoid the boards just because I'm embarrassed about being lazy.

Bonus Goal #3: Declutter every day.

Closet, clothing, bathroom, kitchen. My main barrier is clothing because I'm in the process of losing weight...but I'll realistically never need 50 t-shirts no matter what size I am. At least one item per day.

Boring? Maybe. But I'm keeping it basic this summer, because focus is required to run a marathon...probably. I tell myself I can do ALL THE RACES next year.

Self-rewards haven't been working for me. But I'll try again anyways...in no particular order...

Reward #1: New shoes (my inov-8's are getting worn from running/walking/wearing them allllll the time)

Reward #2: Kitchen island -I've been procrastinating on buying this because $$$ but could really use it

Reward #3: New shoes (Chucks)

Reward #4: Camelbak water bottles (where do all my water bottles go? with the single socks?)

Reward #5: Marathon registration -After I've completed the 10.5mi run scheduled for 6/25

Mini-update:

Last week I drove with a friend from Cincinnati to Salt Lake City in 4 days (she was moving from NYC to Salt Lake), then met up with extended family in Sacramento/SF. So much fun, but so much food and wine and not so much exercise or sleep.

Misses:

  • Ate bread and cheese multiple times, had quite a few weekend drinks
  • GI distress towards the end of the week, probably because of nutty nutty eating (but possible influenced by going back on the pill)
  • Spent a LOT on food and misc things (sunscreen, water, etc)

On Point:

  • Ran Tuesday, Hiked Wednesday, Ran Saturday (NINE MILES AT 5AM SECRETLY because family does not know I'm thinking about marathoning)
  • Skipped Thursday run because after Tuesday run knee felt tweaked...continued to feel tweaked during Wed hike...but by Saturday felt a-ok yay
  • No alcohol during road trip, until family events

Arrived Monday back home, exhausted and slightly jetlagged (3 hour time difference is just enough to mess me up). In recovery now. Yesterday (after a day full of carby carby carbs) went to TJ's and picked up healthy groceries for home-cooked meals. Skipped Tuesday run due to major neck/shoulder pain...have had a minor inexplicable issue with that but plane-sleeping aggravated it apparently. By the end of work yesterday I could barely move my neck - got an emergency massage and this morning I feel better but still stiff/twinge-y. Will take it easy to heal.

Tuesday dinner - salad with strawberries, goat cheese, champagne vinaigrette (inspired by an salad in Denver, SO GOOD)

-pan-roasted salmon (inspired by arctic char in Denver...most perfectly cooked fish I've ever eaten. It motivated me to work on my fish technique)

           -microwaved sweet potato for bf

The rest of the day was not so healthy, but I also made mini meatloaves for breakfasts (ground beef, bacon, garlic scapes, egg, roughly based on this) Since my stomach is iffy on eggs early in the morning, having a sausage or meatloaf option is the way to go.

I'm actually excited to make and eat more salads this summer (WHAT WHO AM I)!

Breakfast meatloaves!

Next time would skip the bacon wrapper because the bacon inside is plenty, the wrap strip ended up being too soft/chewy.

Work lunch: strawberry goat cheese salad, gyro meat. Nom.

Frankly I'm not sure hahah. It kind of took on a life of its own.

PS That strawberry goat cheese salad looks amazing! I might make something similar soon :]

Day 1-3

(I struggled to type 'Day'...started with 'BDay' and then had 'DDay'...so it was like Yay! Yikes? Aaagh.)

Meal prep - didn't do it last weekend, so I'm cooking through the week. Chicken parm and GF pizza last night.

Marathon training - off day

XT - skipped the gym in favor of sleep, which didn't happen anyways.

Sleep - 6:47, skipped meditation

I was allllll set to sleep 9+ hours, when bf got home and dropped the bomb that he got a job offer in Boston. So we spent the next 3 hours talking about that. *sigh* He understandably wants to be near his dad for the next few years (his dad is ~85 so probably does not have many years left), and I completely support that. But staring down the barrel of 2-3 more years of long distance bites pretty hard. He's split 50/50 on the decision; I could say no to the move but won't.

Post - check

Declutter - check. Did a light purge of my sock and underwear drawer.

But I still have a lot of socks and underwear, most of which I don't use. It seems wasteful to get rid of them because eventually some will wear out...bah. The socks I could probably talk myself into purging properly because the ones I'd toss are cheap, but the underwear...gah. It is easier if I have a few glasses of wine first because it keeps me from overthinking it (same is true of bug-killing or icky cleaning tasks).

I'm here!

Oh man, I'm sorry about the BF moving drama! That is hard A.F.

I don't suppose you would consider moving with him? (Just curious). Good luck with all that.

Can I just say that secret sneaking marathon training is possibly the funniest thing ever? 9 miles, OMG!

The breakfast meatloaves look awesome, and I am stealing that idea stat.

Goals look awesome! It's not an official goal, but I'm REALLY trying to get to bed earlier, so I can get up earlier... it's a losing battle though. Damn you, books!

It is SO good! And super easy. Just sliced strawberries, chunks of goat cheese and mesclun with a champagne vinegar/olive oil/salt and pepper vinaigrette. I'm eating it right now, for the third day in a row.

I've settled down some on the emotional-ness of bf possibly leaving. I would certainly consider moving if it were permanent (though there's an informal company commit to stay 2 years in any full time position so I'd probably stick around another 1.5yrs anyways), but he actually said yesterday he would plan to come back at 2 years so it's not so bad. Just the uncertainty and the sadness of having to be long-distance again.

Yeah I felt pretty silly telling my family 'yeah I just ran a few miles' and worrying they'd walk into the gym and CATCH ME RUNNING but maybe it's also a mental thing, like I can sneak up on myself and then suddenly be surprised to be running a marathon...better than psyching myself out though!

Reading before bed is so dangerous. Nonfiction helps because I'm more likely to get sleepy than amped up.

Day 1-4

anigif_enhanced-28010-1402502121-1.gif

This is how I felt about running with a migraine

Meal prep - leftover chicken parm for dinner. slacking on the veggies

Marathon training - ran ~30min

XT - runday

Sleep - 1:09 nap + 7:27 sleep = 8:36, right? Counting it :)

Post - check

Declutter - Skipped, no guilt.

Stopped at the grocery store on the way home and was having trouble reading the price tags (like one of the digits was being obscured by a bright spot or double vision), at home I attempted to read a book and discovered I was struggling to interpret words...sounded like a child learning to read. Self-diagnosed migraine, but since my head didn't really hurt I went running anyways. The headache attacked and the run turned into a walk halfway through. Proceeded to sulk/nap in the dark silent house for most of the evening, though I regained my reading ability enough to skim-read normally.

Eating was better but I had too many cookies at lunch:

Breakfast - mini meatloaf, strawberry goat cheese salad

Lunch - 2 sandwich segments, Ruffles, 5 small chocolate chip cookies (this was a staff meeting lunch, during/after which I stress ate. Yay team tensions)

Dinner - 1 piece chicken parm, leftover fried rice with egg

The salads I've been bringing to work have been my main source of veggies. Better than none, but certainly sub-optimal.

Between processing the possibility of more long distance relationship, the stresses of my coworkers and manager not getting along, and the migraine, it was just a rough 24 hours. But today is Friday and things are looking up (unfortunately my carb count does too), relaxing tonight and going berry picking tomorrow!

I've been getting these lately too, migraines with no pain but vision auras that make it so I can't read. I take Excedrin (because that's what I keep at my desk at work) and a bit later my vision is normal again. I'm not sure what made me think to take something the first time it happened since there wasn't pain but it's always helped. My mom, who is very prone to migraines, calls them silent migraines.

Not sure if I got those pics in right...mini meatloaves, chicken tikka with potatoes and carrots for work lunch, pulled pork in the slow cooker, 6lb of blueberries and 10lb of strawberries picked yesterday. Success!

That's interesting/good/unfortunate to know that it happens to somebody else. Should probably get me some Excedrin, thanks for the tip! Yeah it happens to me very rarely, just often enough to be disruptive and make me feel like I'm going crazy.

Day 1-5, 6, 7

635971853063813393225593318_sleepy%20wor

I'm actually not sleepy at work right now but this is too cute

Meal prep - Owned it! In addition to things pictured, I roasted carrots and zucchini, made a frittata for bf's breakfasts (spinach/bacon/potato/cheddar if you must know), made his date bars (dates/PB/oats/choc chips aka Larabars), hulled/chopped a lot of the strawberries, and made Oreo truffles for a coworker (shared one with bf to taste-test)

Marathon training - ran 4mi Saturday ON THE TRAIL...which took me over an hour

XT - I kinda count the trail running as cross-training because it definitely used different muscles than usual

Sleep -  Friday 1:53 + 9:21, Saturday 6:13, Sunday 6:13 -- 1/3

Post - 2/3 but I'm making up for it with picturrres

Declutter - Maybe not every day? But I did add a few dresses to the giveaway bag...nearly convince myself I'd wear them, but it's been at least a few years.

Friday I had a few beers with coworkers, got home and napped, got up to get ready for bed and that was it.

Saturday was blueberry picking, strawberry picking (gaining an AWFUL sunburn), and trail running/hiking 4 miles.

Sunday was cooking/cleaning/errands.

Fun and active weekend, but I'm carrying the wicked sunburn and an unholy amount of bug bites into the week along with all my wonderful prepped food. I'm actually concerned I may have a rash on my arm...but as long as it doesn't spread then I figure I should be okay, right? Will pick up some calamine lotion later just in case. The sunburn is on my upper back and makes wearing a bra stupid-uncomfortable. Unfortunately running around topless is not socially acceptable at work, or later at my soccer game. Bf is being wonderful about applying aloe to my back (if you blow on the area after applying it feels SO GOOD).

I so feel you on the sunburn-bra battle! It's the worst.

And it's about time I won a step competition, you've taken like the last three! Plus with your sneaky marathon training, I was worried you were going to add 9 mind worth of steps at the last moment [emoji14]

OMG so many berries! If you lived closer, I would be raiding your fridge.

Day 2-1

dogoalie2.gif

Uh I am not this pro.

Meal prep - COMPLETE FOR THE WEEK

Marathon training - Off day

XT - Soccer

Sleep -  Not 8 hours. Not sure how much.

Post - CHECK

Declutter - Forgot, whoops

Soccer was super exhausting and dehydrating yesterday (I got full on running-in-the-heat-redface). Made salmon for dinner -- I think I'm improving at the pan-sear technique!...though to balance it out I burnt the broccoli, sigh.

Breakfast - mini meatloaf with roasted zucchini, coffee, strawberries

Lunch - chicken tikka with potatoes and carrots

Snack - 2 minimini meatloaves with zucchini

Dinner - salmon pan-seared with butter, roasted broccoli, 1 bottle pear cider, ciabatta with buffalo mozzarella and olive oil

My bf was very impressed with dinner...he said 'restaurant quality' despite the burned broccoli, ha. The bread/cheese was a reasonable portion, yay moderation! If I was by myself I might have eaten bread/cheese/oil for dinner, but because I'm trying to cook healthy meals for both of us it was more balanced. I felt like this was a 'perfect moderate' day of eating for me.

Today is likely to be an off eating day--catered lunch is grilled cheese (I did get a salad instead of tomato soup, and I'm planning to eat the salad and half the sandwich). There's also going to be free ice cream at work. If I keep the rest clean (no alcohol, which is prob better for my sleep quality anyhow) then it won't be a total disaster.

Breakfast - mini meatloaf

So I'm all about breakfast for dinner, but I need to get on this dinner for breakfast thing too.  That's awesome about your bf complimenting your food! I loveeeeee cooking so that's like, the best feeling in the world to me when someone enjoys your cooking.

Enjoy your variance today and don't feel guilty about it - that's why we have variances!

Back to report SUCCESS!

My laziness turned out to be an asset, as the ice cream was too far away for me to want to walk outside in my jeans so I skipped it. I have awesome ice cream at home anyways (Graeter's).

At lunch I followed the plan and ate half the salad (greens, goat cheese, dried cranberries, almonds, white balsamic dressing) and half the sandwich (mozz, bacon, roast beef, mushrooms, pesto on GF bread).

Very very happy with this. Especially because I have a half salad, half sandwich, and cup of tomato soup leftover for another meal (lunch tomorrow)!

The soup may get eaten today for snack.

Yesssss same here it gave me the warm fuzzies. He's also super picky (likes almost no vegetables, and has issues with certain ingredients...he wasn't a fan of the chicken tikka I made last week which I thought tasted amazing) so it's even more of a thrill.

And I'm really enjoying the mini meatloaves. I love leftover dinner for lunch, but my brain/body just doesn't find it appealing for breakfast *shrug*

This is random but speaking of cooking, the pantry is overflowing and I need to crack down on using up some of the contents:

Use Up List

Tea (I don't mind stocking a box or two but need to use up the random packets)

Wraps (coconut for me, regular for bf -- need to check for mold)

Broth (~4 gallon bags in the freezer...already wasted some :/)

Cocoa (3 different containers - planning to make brownies)

vanilla beans (homemade vanilla for christmas!)

Coco mojo powder

Nuts: Walnuts, pine nuts, almonds...

Spices (have too many blends and salts)

blueberries (about to be frozen)

strawberries (to be sorbet)

chocolate bars (cookies?)

gelatin powder

vinegars

coconut flour

chia seeds

canned salmon, tuna (hash/melt)

cocoa butter (had planned to make chocolate bars i think)

frozen chicken

frozen beef

frozen pulled pork

frozen bananas

dried elderberries (planned to make elderberry syrup/gummies for cold prevention)

coconut flakes (to be coconut milk)

rice (ok with keeping it around, but want to do more rice less potatoes since I have a BIG bag)

...will add to this list after I get home and look
