So I've been pretty obsessed with the Spideyfit YouTube channel lately... What's not to love about a Spider-Man cosplayer who does fitness videos?

In the below video Spideyfit states there are 3 important skillsets needed to become your own superhero. Strength, flexibility, and endurance. So I'll be basing my fitness quests on these principles. The focus this time around will be on maintaining existing habits and building new ones.

 

 

Quest 1: Strength

I'm currently following a programme based on the Start Bodyweight basic program, but slightly modified to suit my needs. After about 3 weeks I'm already seeing/feeling more progress than I've had in the last 6-8 months. Clearly something is working!

The goal here is simply to ensure I do my resistance workout at least 3 times a week.

Depending on how the days fall, I may get in 4. But the idea is to never go below 3 session a week.

 

Quest 2: Flexibility

Every day I will spend at least 5 minutes working on stretching and/or mobility.

**The amount may increase to 10 minutes if 5 proves too easy.**

 

Quest 3: Endurance

Perform two intense cardio sessions per week, lasting 15-20 minutes or more.

I get a good amount of low impact cardio from walking, but I'm slowly moving over to a more speed focussed approach rather than the endurance stuff I've been doing the last couple of years.

I will probably be rotating between interval sprints on an exercise bike, working on increasing my 5k trail run time, or doing hill sprints.

 

Quest 4 (life quest): Adulting

Spend 30 minutes a day doing some form of adulting. The time isn't super important, it's really just there to make sure I actually do some form of meaningful or useful adulting. Tasks will likely include job searching, cleaning, organizing financial stuff, and a myriad of all the other fun adulting tasks that everyone loves and enjoys!

I will be on holiday from the 20th - 27th. These days the time will be reduced to 10 minutes.

The last few quests I've been sharing a daily awesome, it's been super fun and uplifting, but doesn't really fit the main challenge this time around. Instead I will post a weekly highlight reel of various little bits of happiness and win that I have encountered that week.

I too will have to research this spideyfit youtube, I'm intrigued! I'm excited for the highlight reel, I love the daily awesome you have been doing. 

 

And of course, adulting is everyone's favorite thing :P Where are you going on holiday?

Heading on a mini roadtrip down to the south of the country and back, should be pretty fun. The recent release of Pokemon Go should add to the excitement too :P

Getting workouts in shouldn't be too hard either, may have to make some adjustments though.

 

 

As I'll be at Star Wars Celebraton this weekend, my challenge will start on Monday the 18th.

Yesssss, catch all the Pokemon! I'm so mad the game came out after I did my two long trips this summer, I could have had so many pokemon! That sounds like a fun trip, and Star Wars Celebration sounds like a great way to kick off the challenge!

Should hopefully get to do some beach sprints later this week

Easing back into things after a weekend of Star Wars epicness, I kept it simple and did a bit of vacuuming, cleaned/fixed a desk fan, unpacked my travel bag, and started packing again for a week away.

Which sounds like more than it actually was when you type it up ;)

This should be at the end of each week, but week 0 as so much fun I had to share some of it.

  • Pokemon Go has been so much fun! Seeing kids willingly play outside, me somehow being able to talk to complete strangers at pokestops, and just generally having a fun time.
  • Also, this. http://www.sciencealert.com/pokemon-go-is-reportedly-helping-people-with-their-depression 
  • I went to London and only had one (very minor, don't worry) panic attack on the Underground!
  • Star Wars Celebration was amazing. Such an amazing atmosphere. Had so much fun, saw some awesome stuff/people, and learned some valuable lessons for next time. Was my first real convention, and I can't wait to go to another.
    • Bonus SWC highlights:
    • Creatures and Droids of The Force Awakens panel.
    • Gareth Edwards (director of Rogue One) crashing the concept art panel Q&A dressed as a stormtrooper. 
    • Crazy cosplayers.
    • Warwick Davis and Ray Park re-enacting the lightsaber fight from The Phantom Menace in hilarious fashion.
  • Our hotel was petty great, too. My girlfriend is a hotel deal finding ninja.

I'd say it sounds like you did a bunch of adulting, especially with losing the weekend to epicness!

I didn't cosplay, but I have come away with a serious case of lightsaber envy.. So many awesome customer sabers there. 

If I did a cosplay It'd have to be very light as I struggled with heat just in jeans and tshirt, I have no idea how people survive in robes and masks! I was very tempted by some Stormtrooper helmets though...

Went on a last minute shopping expedition to get stuff for holiday. Also did checks on car before trip.

So, I came to the realisation that questing while on holiday was a bad idea. So I took a break from all of this and just enjoyed adventuring and getting away from life for a few days.

As we were doing over 10,000 steps a day and climbing over various rocks and stuff (and doing the odd set of pushups!) I was still active. So I'm in no way disappointed with the physical aspects of the break. The adulting was a bit frustrating at first. But a week away with your significant other is not the time to be job searching or organising finances.

 

Basically I've just had an active rest week. Which is pretty awesome.

 

Questing will be back on tomorrow, and I'll probably post a bit of a highlight reel/recap of the past few days just for fun. Now I need to catch up on all the new Comic Con news and unpack.

So, Saturday wasn't great for quest stuff.

I had plans to do a cardio workout as well as some adulting and daily stretching/mobility. Not so much.

Woke up way later than I like to and didn't do much until midday. Went out for a long walk/pokehunt with my girlfriend and then we went to the cinema with a friend. After getting back and making dinner I got really bummed out realising it was 8pm and I hadn't done any quest stuff. Uncharacteristically, I just gave up and watched TV.

Fail.

 

Today looks to be better, I've already spent over an hour job searching and even applied for something! Heading for a resistance workout after lunch, which will also include my mobility goal. Won't get the second cardio in for this week, but at least I was active yesterday :).

  • Many Pokemon Go adventures have been had. I'm loving this game! Although if they could fix the tracking system, buggy pokestops, and lack of interesting pokemon in rural areas - that would be great. ;)
  • Having a plan in place to find a new job is very motivating. I'm determined to find something.
  • I can now to full range of motion on parallel dips without chest pain. Huzzah!
