I snarfed my coffee when I saw this :P It amazes me when people get up in the morning to do the stuff... there's so little stuff i'm willing to get up for, but at the same time those are the good things that I feel beyond solid about after. Good on you for making mornings happen :)

Lol thanks :D I know I LOVE sleeping so much but it is getting less terrible to wake up early the more I do it. What got me re-motivated for the mornings

thing was a book called the miracle morning and some videos by Elliot Hulse where he talks about the importance of a morning ritual that lets you have some

peaceful time for yourself before the rest  of the day comes at you full force. But still...a nap does sound good right about now :P

I LIKE getting things done in the morning, I just don't like having to go to bed so early. I am considering switching to morning workouts again though because there are so few people there and I like it like that. It's *almost* worth it just to never have to wonder if there will be a rack open.

I might have to check out that book. :)

Peaceful time in the mornings is huge, and I can only imagine when you're juggling a family with little ones! More than worthwhile imo!

yeah I SHOULD be going to bed around 9-10 instead of 11-12. I found the audiobook on youtube for the book. It is a little cheesy at times but it has some good ideas. I just like doing everything first thing so that I don't make as many excuses for why I can't go to the gym or do other things. Also I like to get stuff done on my time instead of taking away time with my kids after work.

Not surprised with all the success at swimming. You were, at one point, the infamous El Tiburon ;)

Completed my BW routine yesterday

:) Man this one always kicks my ass and I feel pretty good bout mixing it with my lifting to even out the neglected muscles I might have.

Also completed all of my other daylies. So week one was a definite success. Week 1 wrap up later when I am at a comp.

Today was a fun day :)

The kids and I went hiking, swimming and bouldering today. We went hiking along this river until we found some boulders to scramble all over. Then we could take the heat anymore so we jumped in the river and ended up swimming up and down the river for hours. It was real fun! I will definitely be sunburnt tomorrow but it was worth it.

Thank you :D the mornings are definitely getting easier. Also it feels like I am sleeping in on the weekends even if I am waking up at 8am with the kids

so that is a plus.

Completed another swimming routine on Tuesday and now a gym day :D this morning

Total Distance: 800 yards

  • 150 yards crawl warmup
    (rest between laps if needed)
  • 8 x 25 yards crawl sprints resting :30 between lengths
(effort should be at 60-70% of fastest swim)
  • 100 yards crawl counting strokes per length
(try to use less strokes on each subsequent length)
  • 4 x 25 yards windsprints resting :30 between lengths
(swim each length without taking a breathe)
  • 100 yards crawl counting strokes per length
(try to use less strokes on each subsequent length)
  • 150 crawl warmdown
    (swim slowly and relax)
  • Squat 5X5 110#
  • Decline situp 10X5
  • Deadlift 5X5 150#
  • Good mornings 5X5 55#
  • Decline situp 10X5

Im feeling pretty good about the swim, the breathing rhythm still needs some work but my crawl is getting

more fluid.

On a side note I have been listening to Alan Watts alot lately (philosopher from the 60s)

if anyone is curious about Zen then this short video is worth a watch (spoilered due to religious\philosophical content) :

Do it! Alan Watts can be long winded(or can waffle on a bit) but I like his worldviews.

This morning was a very close call with just going back to sleep. I actually said F it and layed back down and set the alarm back 30 mins. But for some reason a small voice in my head said WTF is 30 mins of sleep REALLY going to do for you, you will still be tired when you get up and on top of that you missed a workout. Damn that logic cut deep cuz I got up and went to the gym and knocked out my routine. Also the weighted pullup machine was broken so I just ran outside and found a tree and did my 25 pullups and 25 chinups out there. Also over the weekend I pretty much spent the whole time with the kids in the pool so I completed my swim workout as well.

Today's workout:

  • Bench 5x5.                        55#DBs
  • OHP 5x5                            30#DBs
  • 250#Weighted Pullups 5x5
  • Bent over Rows 5x5        55# DBs
  • 250#Weighted Chinups 5x5
  • DB Flys 5x5                       20# DBs

Swim routine:

Total Distance: 900 yards

  • 2 x 100 yards crawl warmup
    (rest :30 between 100sets)
  • 4 x 25 yards windsprints resting :30 between lengths
(swim each length without taking a breathe)
  • 4 x 50 yards crawl resting :15 between laps
(count 3 kicks for each arm stroke)
  • 4 x 25 yards windsprints resting :30 between lengths
(swim each length without taking a breathe)
  • 4 x 50 yards crawl resting :15 between laps
(count 3 kicks for each arm stroke)
  • 100 freestyle warmdown
    (swim slowly and relax)

Week 2 wrap up:

Lifting 3X a week: CHECK

I have been doing really well with my gym days more than anything and I believe I am doing the best on this goal compared to the others.

(after all lifting is whats important :p)

Swimming 2X a week: CHECK

I am really enjoying these swim days and it really helps to mix up my routine

Zazen Meditation 5X CHECK

I am really enjoying these as well. It is weird to me how just a few minutes a day can alter and refocus me. I have done a few meditation sessions even

at work during the day and it helped me come back feeling grounded and I was able to focus again on what I needed to do. ( I felt kind of silly sneaking off to our storage room

to sit and meditate for 10 mins but it was worth it)

5am Wake up 5X a week CHECK

Definitely a check :D

Linux 3X a week CHECK -

I am counting this as a check - minus because I have just been doing the absolute bare minimum on this goal.

Yes it is a pass but I know that I can do better and should be doing better. So Im shooting for extra time this week on this goal.

Journaling 5X a week CHECK -

The same goes with this goal. I need to actually make this part of my morning or nightly routine so that way it will be easier to keep. I have been spotting with my consistancy on this goal and even then the entries seemed rushed and not thought out.

So all in all it was a successful week 2.

Lol very good :D Lao Tzu has so many awesome quotes, I really like this one:

“Knowing others is intelligence;
knowing yourself is true wisdom.
Mastering others is strength;
mastering yourself is true power.”
