A little background first.  Was formerly here as Doc Viking, I opted to come back with a new name since I've moved and am changing up some of my training.  I am formerly an Army Medic who left the military and stopped training due to turmoil/death in my family and general laziness coupled with drinking too much beer and steadily moved up to 345-350lbs, now down to 330lbs.  Last couple challenges I've done were mostly lifting via Strong lifts, and some rucking.  Since April I have been hitting the gym 4x/week and making good progress with Wendler 5/3/1, but now that I'm finally in my new residence I'm going to start adding some new training to keep things fresh.  I obtained a massive tire and a sledgehammer, rescued a furry Ranger companion, have space for my heavy bag and broke my bicycle out of storage.  I may have been a little overenthusiastic about my choice of tire as it's nearly as tall as I am and maybe 2 feet wide,  it certainly outweighs me and even though I have built my lifts up quite a bit recently I'm not certain I can flip it too many times without risking injuring myself, hence the sledgehammer.

Goals for this challenge are simple

  1. Continue to lift 4x/week
  2. use my tire (i.e. hammer swings, jump/step ups, and eventually set up a rig to drag/pull it)
  3. ride my bike or take my furry companion for walks 5x/week and hopefully build up to short jogs with him.

I have a coworker that lives near me that is trying to lose some weight to help manage some health issues and to improve his job as a volunteer firefighter,  While I haven't pushed him to joining me at the gym he has expressed interest in joining me for my second and third goal and has been waiting patiently these last 3 months while my house was being repaired from a flood to move to town.  Also my younger sister lives close and has been bugging me hurry up and get moved so she can join me on bike rides.

I welcome suggestions for other uses with my sledgehammer beyond the usual two-handed diagonal swings, overhead swings, and one-handed swings.

Was browsing other threads and realized I forgot a goal...

4.  Once internet is hooked up I will be doing yoga 3-4x/week, most likely on the days I lift.  I will also start foam rolling more often.

Skipped lifting yesterday because my coworker needed a ride home, this week hasn't been the best for lifting since I skipped my first day due to moving.  I'll make it up after work by doubling up with squats and bench like I did with OHP and DL the other day.  Certainly not my preferred method as my accessory lifts fall by the wayside due to time constraints but I still get my main lifts in.  Also they internet should be up in my house today as long as the phone company keeps their appointment and shows up.  I was going to break out the sledgehammer but it was raining pretty heavily so I'll wait and see how things go later in the day.

For reference, here is my tire next to a 6' fence.  I am also 6' tall.

I will always be Doc, but the new focus needed a new name. Björn means bear and Járnhamar is a combination of the old Scandinavian words for iron and hammer, thought it was fitting

Not yet, figure I can wait until I bring it out for the first time and see if inspiration strikes, if not I'll see what I can come up with elsewhere. Right now it's just a simple hammer with the black and yellow handle from Menards, eventually I'd like to customize it in some way to make it mine

Just had the last two days off from work, was planning on breaking in the tire but had a rain shower the first day and a thunderstorm the next, so I stayed inside.  Today is my Monday, for this week anyways, so I'll be in the gym right after work.  Once I get home I will either hit the tire then do yoga or just start yoga depending on the weather.  I'm hoping it's not raining so I can stick my dog outside while I do yoga as the room I'll be using does not have a door hung at the moment.  I will try to get my battlelog up to date with my lifts since the last I wrote there was May 28.

Can't remember if I stated this earlier but I'll be tracking whether I hit my goals here but have my workouts broken down in my battle log.  Sorry for those that want to see both, you'll have to flip between the two, but this way I have continuity on my battle log.

Hey! I'm your minichallenge teammate! Followed :D

I ran 5/3/1 for a few months like 2 years ago. The low volume was really great for cutting. Unless you're doing the BBB variant, in which low volume is... not accurate. I did love 5/3/1 tho.
