Week 1 Round-up

1. Replace sugary drinks with water.  Got better throughout the week. It gets easier to just not say, "Can I get a drink with that?"

 

2. Bring my lunch at least three days per week.  3/3. In between bringing and just skipping, made the goal.

 

3. Walk/run at least one mile three times per week.  3/3. All of the walking was labor rather than recreational.  I worked with a team of volunteers to clear a tree, and then mowed the lawn and did other yard work on the weekend.

 

4. Journal writing each evening before bed.  1/7 so far.  Most of the days I just forgot.  Sometimes I only remembered when it was too late.  I plan to just turn off electronics after dinner to make the time, and leave notes to remind me.

Monday and Tuesday, 25-26 July 2016

 

1. Replace sugary drinks with water.  None so far.

 

2. Bring my lunch at least three days per week.  2/3. Brought food Monday, skipped lunch Tuesday.

 

3. Walk/run at least one mile three times per week.  0/3. Need to schedule times.

 

4. Journal writing each evening before bed.  2/7 so far.  Doing better this week.  The writing itself sounds pretty depressing, but I the process is helping me come to terms with some issues I am facing.

Week 2, Day 3

Wednesday, 27 July 2016

 

1. Replace sugary drinks with water.  Stayed away from sites of temptation.

 

2. Bring my lunch at least three days per week.  3/3. Brought lunch again. Caught flak from co-workers because I was eating raw carrots, bell peppers, and cucumber slices.  Didn't care.

 

3. Walk/run at least one mile three times per week.  1/3. Walked before bed.

 

4. Journal writing each evening before bed.  3/7.

 

Co-worker brought in doughnuts, and I had some, but that was not a specific part of this challenge so I am just noting it in passing.  If I muster the will to get serious about this, I will start tracking food again in myfitnesspal to force me to see the results of my unplanned eating.

Doing journaling right is very, very difficult. I had a go a few times but it never really worked out. Do you have a specific format you follow?

2. Bring my lunch at least three days per week.  3/3. Sandwich at a shop.  Could have  Should have asked for a water cup, but I did not.

 

3. Walk/run at least one mile three times per week.  2/3. Walked with kids all over a park so that they could catch their Pokémon.

 

4. Journal writing each evening before bed.  4/7.

I just write what I am thinking about.  Since it has often been at the end of a bad day, that is what comes out.  I hope that I am on an upward swing though.

I agree that I should be focusing on the small changes -- I am trying to crate habits that stick, and that I can use as stepping stones to more growth.  I just mentioned it so that people didn't get the impression that I was being fabulously successful or anything.

3. Walk/run at least one mile three times per week.  3/3. Lots of walking on Saturday supporting an event sponsored by our local SCA group.

 

4. Journal writing each evening before bed.  7/7.  Found that my mood was considerably brightened by the end of Sunday.  Too many variables to pin down which one to credit, but along with other things noted here, increased exercise and sun exposure probably helped.

Great week, Erick! I remember reading something a while back along the lines of, "A thought is never fully developed until it passes through the tip of a pen." Writing does so much to help sort out our thoughts/feelings/ambitious/anxieties, and so often just getting that stuff "out" lightens our disposition a lot. Keep up the great work!

Tuesday and Wednesday, 2-3 August 2016

 

1. Replace sugary drinks with water.  So much fail. 3 so far for the week.

 

2. Bring my lunch at least three days per week.  Still 0/3 for the week.

 

3. Walk/run at least one mile three times per week.  Still 0/3 so far for the week.

 

4. Journal writing each evening before bed.  2/7.  Missed Tuesday for no good reason except I got distracted.

 

Poor planning for food meant that I ate out for lunches, and I have no good rational reasons for the sodas except that they "seemed like a good idea at the time."

 

Some drama at work and preparing for a long trip that starts next week has my emotional account overdrawn.  I expect that is a part of what is going on.  Wish I had a plan to get out.

Well, I had hoped that I would make time to keep up with the challenge while I was away from home the last two weeks.  Sad to see it did not happen.  Here is the last update anyway: 

 

Weeks 3 and 4

 

1. Replace sugary drinks with water.  Did not do a great job ordering water when I ate out.  And since I ate out quite a bit as we travelled all over, this was not good.

 

2. Bring my lunch at least three days per week.  Out of work, so did not really apply.  Still made a point to prepare food as often as possible rather than eat at restaurants all the time.

 

3. Walk/run at least one mile three times per week.  This one I am sure I kept up, since we stayed active at the sites we visited.

 

4. Journal writing each evening before bed.  Missed out on this one.  I brought my journal, but did not pull it out of my bag.  :(  Took pictures, and I will go back and fill in the events, but it is the feelings and impressions from each day that were the main things that I was interested in catching.  Today is a new day to start over though.
