Briniel Builds Better Habits

The above quote has been sticking with me for my whole journey here on NF and I'm ready to commit to live my life to the fullest. I will take each day as a new chance to live the life I want. I've been building new habits, learning new stuff and doing new things during the last year, but I feel like I'm always trying to do too much, too fast. So I'll take it slow this time. I will take baby steps, but take them each and every day. That's why I'm moving to a battle log for this. No more challenges where I put too much on my plate and it all comes toppling down halfway through, no more cheat days, week zeros or other setbacks that will make me have to start over.

I've identified some chore habits that I want to build as the base for new things to come. The goal is to do them every. single. day. I will make each day count and work on building the life that I want while enjoying the life that I have. I will be gentle with myself if something goes awry and I will not let it drag me away from my path. If (and only if) I've managed to follow all my habits for 7 consecutive days, I can add another one.

 

I'm using both Habitica and my bullet journal to track right now, simply because I can't decide yet which I prefer ;)

These are my "dailies" so far:

 

basics:

  • move - 15 minutes of exercise. Can be anything, yoga, bww, swimming, walking... just move!
  • learn - 15 minutes of studying. For work, choir, fun... learn something new!
  • tidy - 15 minutes of housekeeping. There's a tracker in the kitchen. Use it!

 

nutrition:

  • 1x veggies (at least one handful)
  • 2x veggies (at least one handful)
  • hydrate (at least 2l of water/tea)

 

other:

  • play with the cats
  • floss (every other day)
  • log food (currently just writing down what I ate, guessing quantities)
  • log spendings

 

These are all things I've done before and (with the exception of playing with the cats and the second veggie portion) all things that are relatively easy for me. I'm currently on at least a 3 day streak with all of these. I'm trying to ingrain these habits so they become second nature (like the hydration goal did, I usually think of this on my own, without having to check my tracker or habitica to see what's left to do) so it will be easier to continue through with them when I start my second job (probably on the 1st of august, if all goes well).

 

I'll try to get on here everyday to update and I might also use this to log any other stuff I'm doing, but I'm not sure yet :) Feel free to leave comments, suggestions, questions or just follow along, I'm grateful for all of your support!

Possible future habits:

 

  • plan out the next day in my bullet journal the night before
  • no internet before noon
  • move/learn/tidy done before noon
  • enjoy being outside
  • call family 2x / week
  • socialise
  • singing practice 3x / week
  • clicker session with cats 2x / week
  • drawing 2x / week

 

  • food-prep on weekends
  • one proper warm meal each day
  • don't have 2 snacks in a row
  • no wheat
  • log food (including quantities)
  • log food (including macros)
  • x grams of protein

 

  • morning yoga
  • yin yoga 2x / week
  • NF Academy work out 2x / week
  • go for a run 1x / week
  • P:BA or leg workout 1x / week
  • balance work 2x / week

July 13th

Yesterday was a good day, I did all my dailies:

 

  • move - morning yoga (3/7 for this week; 4 day streak)
  • learn - practiced for choir and had choir rehearsal in the evening, so lots (3/7; 7)
  • tidy - vacuumed, removed some plants from the balcony that threatened to overgrow and misc. (3/7; 4)
  • 1x veggies - mango-avocado-rocket-salad (3/7; 45)
  • 2x veggies - chinese takeaway with chicken, veggies and rice (3/7; 7)
  • hydrate, 2l+ (3/7; 24)
  • play with the cats (3/7; 4)
  • floss (n.a.)
  • log food (3/7; 13)
  • log spendings (3/7; 7)

 

and even followed some of the other habits that I laid out:

  • enjoy being outside
  • call family
  • socialise
  • singing practice
  • one proper warm meal each day
  • don't have 2 snacks in a row
  • no wheat
  • morning yoga

It was quite a good day, even if I got up a bit later than planned. But a friend of mine called and asked to meet in the afternoon, so I had some motivation to get all my shit done until then ;) She's decided to divorce her husband due to somewhat similar difficulties as the bf and I had last weekend, so it was both really helpful and worrisome to talk with her about it...

 

I had planned to do an Academy workout but didn't find the motivation for it, so I'm just going to do it right now, whether I feel like it or not (I don't).

I totally feel you, but don't rely on motivation for this. It drives to excuses and laziness. You do it because you have your reasons and your why.

You did so many things AND you made yourself work out when you didn't feel like it! Nice.

Yay! Really glad I did it, even if the Level 3 workout from NFA still feels a little easy somehow... my warmup and cooldown took pretty much as long as the actual workout :D But I guess it's good that it doesn't take forever, so I'll stick with it.

thank you!! it does look like a lot when I list every little thing, doesn't it ;) I constantly need to remind myself that this is enough, that I do not need to do ALL the things ALL the time, but take it slow and steady and sustainable... this is so hard!

It's so pretty!!  I love all the green!  But that page in the middle is tripping me up - what is it doing???  Do you have a small page tucked in there that was halfway through turning?? Why is this so confusing??

Thank you! That's called a "dutch door". It's just the next page slightly turned but with the top portion cut off. That way I can see the week at a glance at the top, no matter what day I'm on and have space for all days of a week and a to-do-list on the four spreads in between. I really like it!

July, 14th

Another good day. I'm on my way to that 7 consecutive days streak and I'm actually excited to be able to add another thing to the list. So many to chose from!

Dailies:

  • move - morning yoga (4/7 for this week; 5 day streak)
  • learn - read stuff for work (4/7; 8)
  • tidy - just checked the list and did whatever item was next and sensible. Good strategy. (4/7; 5)
  • 1x veggies - scrambled eggs with tomatoes and avocado (4/7; 46)
  • 2x veggies - potato casserole (4/7; 8)
  • hydrate, 2l+ (4/7; 25)
  • play with the cats (4/7; 5)
  • floss (2/3; 7)
  • log food (4/7; 14)
  • log spendings (4/7; 8)

 

More things I did:

  • NF Academy work out

Good day, but lots of time in between (especially after noon) where I could have done so many more things. Totally down for that Do All The Things Club XD

Today my inner thighs are sore... feels like DOMS even though the only leg intensive thing yesterday was 4 sets of 7 bulgarian split squats per side that didn't feel that bad... guess I'm not used to it anymore, my last workout was more than 2 weeks ago. Time to get back on track :)

Those split squats will get you. I have some really weird DOMS and I think it's also from split squats.
