karinajean tries a CUT MONTH

Recommended Posts

DAY 2

I already mixed up my days. I forgot that on tuesday, I had to leave the house at 5:40 to drive to my construction site for some extra training. so, I saved the run for wednesday. there's flexibility, this is not terrible. Tuesday night was also TKD, and my top instructor was there (a surprise! she's normally there on thursdays, not tuesdays) so I taught the lower belts for 1/2 the class while she worked with another black belt, and then she and I worked together on forms and sparring for the 2nd half of the class. it was GREAT. home for ramen with eggs inside, yum. I didn't hit my protein for the day but I did stay within calories. I was close on protein - 95 grams - and if I had logged my dinner earlier I would have seen that I totally could have had a protein snack to get more, and I guess this is an indication that if I'm non-cut cutting I need to pay more attention during the day to what I'm eating. so there's that.

Monday last night we pokewalked for a bit! I started the day at early Level 12, and ended the day at late Level 13. we also had burgers and ONLY ONE BEER, so as to stay generally within my non-cut cut thresholds. um. the beer was delicious, and the type that I really didn't need to have 2 of, anyway.

DAY 3

Today I woke up with a wicked sharp headache! I don't normally get headaches, so I took it easy, popped some advil, and didn't do the 2.5 mi run that I had intended. I am TOTALLY going to have to do it tonight when I get home. but, on the plus side, I have to leave early to get my car inspected so I will be home just after 5PM and I will just have to get my running clothes on and go for it.

I think we are indian buffeting for lunch, so I'll need to be careful about that delicious food source.

in other pokemon go news

I leveled up yesterday to level 14 but there was a glitch or something and I don't think I got any extra loot. BUMMER. but, I am feeling more confident about gym battling - I pulled over on the way to work and knocked a blue gym down a couple of bumps. if I wasn't already running late I totally could have taken those guys out! I am getting between 2-3 pokemon popping up on my screen while I sit at my desk here at work, and if I'm not in the middle of something I am, well, catching them all. I'm running short on pokeballs so I'm going to have to make a dedicated push to gather some more tonight and tomorrow!

also I picked up Seventeen from work last night and he was SO excited about this game, he has a crew (MYSTIC of course, we are a house divided) and they go around to the local villages around us and take over all the gyms. He told me where a bunch of rares pop up and was, generally, super adorable (for a huge 17 year old). also he was impressed that I am at level 14. he plays all the time and had just topped up to 15! lolz. I told him I was really nerdy about it.

So I took it easy and 2.5 mile run in the same sentence?? Awesome!

Great job leveling up your Pokemon lvl. :) My work is a gym and it's so fun to watch people out in the front battling. We currently have the Eevee Brother's owning our gym. Lol

welllllll the "easy" and "2.5 mile run" were seperated with a "DID NOT DO," :D

but I did get out there just now and ran for about 2.5 miles. I sorta hate running in the evenings, but I did it, and it was ok. it's an entirely different activity than running in the morning. more of an endurance exercise, even though I admit my legs feel great in the evening, and not like baby deer as they often do in the morning. it's the REST of me that is rough in the evening - my stomach is always a little too full (either big lunches or guzzling water before I head out is the problem), my lungs feel heavy (probs because it's so much warmer), and my shoulders are tight from the stress of the day.

hey thanks! I mean. I'm already feeling like this is the most boring thing and ZOMG I should just give up already but..... that's just my lizard brain taking, and lizard brain wants to eat all the chocolate in the world.

So, this afternoon I got home a little early b/c I had to run my new car by the shop - there's a persistent check engine light, we're going to smoke test it - and it's no big deal, I firmly believe in buying used cars and I firmly believe that you should expect about 10% of the purchase price in some kind of repairs after you bring it home. I released the cat - we had locked her up in the bedroom while the cleaners came during the day - and gave her so many skritches. Also, she is shedding like WHOA so I got out the furminator and started to use it whenever she plops on the ground demanding butt skritches and belly rubs. She is fairly terrifying and changeable in temperament, but today she is really well tolerating the combing and I've removed what feels like roughly 4 kittens worth of cat hair already. like - handfulls. at least 4 handfuls of fur. I am such a rotten kittymomma / housekeeper to have just pretended this wasn't something I badly needed to do for so long. poor kid.

 bb639680283bc1d2fbd6a95a17e780de.jpg

and then the run! 2.55 mile in just over 24 minutes. I am NOT looking forward to my friday run, which will be a 3 mile run, but it will be fine, just fine. no really. just fine.

pokemon go servers are down apparently and my husband isn't going to be home until 830 so I don't think I'[ll have a chance to re-up on pokeballs. I'm realllly low. but over 1/2way to level 15, so that's something. I'll need to be serious about stopping at all locally known pokestops on the way to work tomorrow. also, based on when my fitbit tells me I'm walking, I've spent about 2 1/2 hours since last friday thanks to this game.

Ooooh that test thing is awesome!   When I tried it, I got very similar results.   The first time I just let it calculate my max heart rate and I said I go all out on my exercise... and do it almost every day.   That gave me ... unrealistic test results (Under 20, lol)     When I shifted my exercise to the middle one, then it popped me up to 30 year old.     It's probably my weight that is a hiccup for it.   :P    Ah well!   Still 10 years better than real!

Fun stuff.    You always find the fun stuff.

How's that body fat measuring device thingy working?

Im learning a lot about patience and how to handle disappointment thanks to this game. :). I walked 5k to hatch an egg and the game froze costing me my prize.  The worse part was not knowing what Pokemon I would have gotten!

My 15 year old gets so excited about his catches that he paces around in a circle and gives me the blow-by-blow of,his conquests. What is really funny is that my husband goes out and takes a gym then gives me a similar blow-by-blow story.  They are so cute :).

You do still get the Pokemon even if the animation does not appear/the game freezes. It just puts itself in your pokemon inventory.

I find myself constantly low on pokéballs these days (LOL three days after I started playing :P). I find I need to use more and more balls to capture the critters the higher up the levels I get, it's kind of annoying.

It's really adorable that you're connecting with 17 over Pokémon. Must be some good parenting. ;)

I've had it work both ways? about 1/2 the time there's no pokemon in my journal, 1/2 the time there is. hopefully that boring glitch is fixed now. but! it's also annoying that you can't see hatced eggs in the journal, and have to check in 2 places to make sure everything is there. OH THIS AMAZING GAME IS MAKING ME GAME IT OH HOW HORRIBLE :P

I managed to top off on pokeballs one day when I had a meeting virtually on top of a pokestop, and I surreptitiously kept spinning the dial and collecting goods until my bag was full. Now my bag is full of potions and revives and razzberries and I am taking this as a sign that I need to battle more to clear out room for the pokeballs.

My room is on top of a pokestop so I keep spinning the dial all day too, but I still run out because 1) there's also lures so I spend a lot of balls farming pidgies and zubats b) my bag is too full of potions and revive. Clearly I need to battle more too!

How's that body fat measuring device thingy working?

HOW INTERESTING THAT YOU SHOULD MENTION IT.

I did my week 1 skulpt reading and totally wouldn't have if you didn't mention it.

so, they changed the way it works a little? now you slide it around until you get the best reading and then it takes that reading. it revised the arbitrary muscle quality reading as well. but, here are my results for muscles and for fats.

 ac9ee1a2c212cd7e962b807ce03aca03.jpg

 9fe06305cc8ee487603b55d9267a5f38.jpg

not any big surprises, I guess. sliding it around means that I am able to get it in to a more relatively similar area each reading than before, which is good. my measurements haven't changed significantly since I started using it (I mean, there are some changes, but I interpret that as more noise over a period of time that included upgrades etc to the programming), which I am also not surprised about, but I'm hopeful that doing regular readings as part of this challenge will show *something* different.

DAY 5

So, thursday I normally go to my site meetings but we had honchos in the office and I decided to avoid the extra 3 hours of driving. it was the right decision, I had to talk to them about things.

I was 30 minutes late to TKD but the half class that I did catch was great, Sweaty Thursdays wherein you do basics, sparring, and forms in quick rotation and get super sweaty.

Food was weird, I thought for sure I would be over budget b/c I ate kind of a lot at our provided lunch - a couple of small sandwiches followed by some additional sandwich insides (breaded chicken cutlet is one of those things that tastes better than it should!). but, we ended up having a very light dinner because we got home at 8 or 830, and then got in the car to drive north to my dad's house to split the difference on the way to pick up Twelve from sleepaway camp friday afternoon. We had a protein bar and then some leftovers at dad's when we arrived, and my calories worked out just fine.

DAY 6

got up this morning and went for what I thought would be a 3 mile run but actually was a 2.5 mile run. oops. that's ok, I'll still take it. I've been working fruitlessly all day with poor wifi connection at my dads and we are about to head out to get the kid, so, maybe I'll do more later, when we get home tonight. it's nice, though, spending time with my dad and his little dog gracie.

I'm not sure this is because you didn't do it for a while. My cat loves to be combed so I do it frequently and I get handfuls and handfuls of fur everytime. I can't believe he has so much fur.

Nice unit of measure, I'll start using it :D

I'm in for the Pokemon chatter.  My secret for staying stocked up with poke balls and great balls is to keep the game open while my husband is driving, and then hit all of the poke stops that are in range of the road. :)

My room is on top of a pokestop so I keep spinning the dial all day too, but I still run out because 1) there's also lures so I spend a lot of balls farming pidgies and zubats b) my bag is too full of potions and revive. Clearly I need to battle more too!

I just throw out a lot of my potions and revives, so I can make room for more balls.  If you click the trashcan icon, it will let you choose how many to throw away.

How accurate are you finding the Skulpt? Mine gave me completely different readings every time I did it and I have put it in a drawer to never look at it again. I was really upset for awhile, but it seems this update might help? What are your thoughts?

HI GANG.

I'm a little late. it's been super hot, I've been all over, and kind of sleepy.

DAY 6 CONCLUDED with delicious hot dogs after picking up cousins at camp, it's so fun to see my family, y'all, and I LOVE that my steps and I have built this honest-to-goodness real sibling structure that is so purposeful and generous. like. these boys are cousins. on the right is my stepson and on the left is my nephew, who is my stepsisters kid. no blood shared but so much love and affection.

(also those hot dogs and cheese and chili fries were so delicious).

Needless to say I didn't hit my protein goal for the day, though. sadly hot dogs are not as protein-y as they ought to be. only got to 80 g. I was just at calories, though.

After I drove us all home (about 4 hours?) we brought Twelve over to his mom's and crashed out.

DAY 7

supposed to be DOJO SAT but the weapons/kickboxing instructor was not in. So, instead, I got to sleep in for an hour and met my instructor. we practiced forms and weapons on our own. then the kids showed up for regular class, and we each took a small group and drilled them.

we were supposed to go to a local drive in theater to see a star trek / ghostbuster double feature, but my husband contracted a terrible cold so we didn't go. I ended up napping for a bit, reading a book, and cooking lunch (mac and cheese with tuna mixed in) and dinner (madras curry simmer sauce over frozen veg and cubed tofu). almost hit protein (116 g). Also I experimented with breakfast - I normally throw an egg into my oatmeal (whisk it in at the end of cooking), and this weekend I also added some protein powder (Bob's Red Mill Chai, which I won in a raffle after a 10K race) and it worked out really well, actually. I was worried, because I don't like overly sweet or flavored oatmeal, but this was a good balance.

DAY 8 SUNDAY!

it's weird for the challenge to start on a sunday. just saying. I'm old fashioned.

I had yarn crawl day! there's a "Yarn Cruise" in my area, with over 15 yarn shops participating. you get a stamp at each shop on your "passport" and as we've learned I just love to collect things so I am all in. my knitting group piled into a car and drove to a couple of shops about 1 1/2 hours north of us -- and discovered a spinning event called "SPINZILLA" in october where you try to spin 1 mile of yarn in a week, zomg I totally signed up for it, I hope it works. home and had ramen for dinner because my poor husband was so ill that he only wanted soup. Because of eggs in the soup, protein oatmeal, and a hearty burger for lunch I managed to hit protein at 119 (and was just slightly over on calories). I also started to feel not awesome, so it was early to bed for me and then....

DAY 9 I totally decided to not get up and run. blah. ostensibly it's because I was worried about getting sick. also, it's hot, even at 530AM. not much of note, but did hit protein (125 g) - protein breakfast shake, burger for lunch, and tuna casserole with extra tuna for dinner). then I stayed up too late finishing something for work, and then watching the democratic convention on cspan on my laptop. WAY too late.

DAY 10 is today!

I didn't run again, because tired from up late.

ugh.

I think I am going to have to reset my running schedule slightly... reworking calendar now to post. I have TKD tonight.

Also I signed up for an Deanne Love august hooping challenge and I'm really excited about it but it will be a big addition to my regularly planned workflow. but hopefully I'll get way better at hooping!

POKEMON NEWS

I leveled up to 16 yesterday! I have been hoarding stardust and have SO MANY weedles and pidgeys to level up, plus a lot of more serious guys to level (a few eevees, drowsees, venonats, a few rattatts, kakunas, and metapods). I plan to pop an incense and a lucky egg, walk around my town, and level up a bajillion of these pokemon to get as many HPs as possible. I WANTED to do this last night, but we had torrential rains and thunderstorms instead. sighs.

I've noticed today that with level 16 all my pokemon are super feisty, and I have to use razzberries to get them to stand still to catch! what even! I'm still filling my bag up /feeling short on pokeballs but have started to trash revives (I have SO MANY of them). I have also started to pull over at this one gym on my way to work and take it over - I've done that 2 days in a row, lolz. pokemon seem to spawn by my desk at a rate of about 4-6 per hour, so it's not super disruptive to keep the game on and listen for the buzz when a pokemon appears, and it keeps me steadily HPing up.... as long as I don't run out of pokeballs.

SIDEBAR ALSO: I went back and was looking at my post-surgery thread from over 2 years ago and I had re-read the Eye of the World and DUDES I DON'T REMEMBER THAT AT ALL. thank you, painkillers!

ZOMG THIS JUST IN PIKACHU JUST SHOWED UP AT WORK AND I TOTALLY NABBED HIM.

What's all this pokémon fuss about? You just have to go to the places the game indicates, like geocatching?

yes - it's like a cross between a scavenger hunt and geocatching and a collection game. the pokemon pop up kind of randomly, and you go to certain known locations to get more stuff (pokeballs and other things) or to fight / train at a gym.

Fancy scanner data, ho! The heat makes running a lot harder, IMO, so good job~!

thanks! yeah, the heat has been building, and.... I am just slacking off this week.

throwing out the revives is what I've determined for today, anyway--- I don't usually have a lot of time for gym battles and I have SO MANY of them. unless you're battling the pokemon don't faint, so.

honestly until the latest update I was pretty much done with it too. at least with this update you can feel your way into the highest number, and theoretically the location of the highest number will be the same every time you use it, so at least there's SOME consistency. I would say - give it a chance!

So with the Skulpt, higher numbers for the muscle stuff are better, right?  The quad numbers seem off compared to your other leg numbers.

yes.... that's a good observation about the quads, I hadn't noticed. hmm.
