Hi! I'm Raptron. I practice gymnastics, lift things, hike, climb, and generally love all things active. The summer is here in force and hot hot hot. My main goals this summer are to keep working on some of my weaknesses in gymnastics as well as lifting. My big goal is to rebuild up to near my lifting sets were at (sq: 225, bench: 135, deadlift: 235 [why so weak deadlift?!]) before a series of injuries and and other activities set me back. Now that those injuries are mostly recovered or in remission with lots of PT, I can really get going again. 

 

The 2016 women's team for Rio has been selected and this challenge overlaps with the start of the Olympics so I think you know where this is going. If you aren't excited about Rio, the door is that way -->

 

Goal 1: Get air like Simone

*Plyometrics or the stadium 4x over challenge with a focus on watching for valgus collapse in my knees

 

Goal 2: Booty like Aly

*Glute accessories with every lifting workout, especially to strength that glute medius 

 

Goal 3: Stretch like Laurie

*Hyperstretching for splits and straddles 4x over challenge

 

Goal 4: Bars like Madison

*Work on uneven bars 6x over challenge -- can sub in rock climbing or pull-ups/chin-ups if something prevents gymnastics practice

 

Goal 5: Get back up again like Gabby

*Eat mostly home prepared meals -- aim for a limit of 5-6x eating out this challenge

Oh my gosh! I love these girls. Watching the trails was so nerve wracking! I wanted to take more girls on the team since they work so hard! I remember seeing Ashton in 2013 with amazing bars. I hope she goes for 2020, but we shall see. 

 

Anyway, I digress. I will DEFINITELY be following. I'm so jealous you're IN gymnastics. I love gymnastics and I love your theme.

omg the olympics. we don't have network or cable at home and I have to figure out how to watch. EVERY 2 YEARS I DEAL WITH THIS ISSUE. and mostly I don't watch? but the women's gymnastics!!! they are so amazeballs!!!

I dont' have it either! I used to use my mother's log in to watch online, but she dropped her cable this year. Finding a way to watch the Olympics is my biggest worry!

Hah, a gymnastics-themed gymnastics challenge - I approve!

 

The gymnastics was always a highlight of the Olympics even before I got interested in it myself. Weightlifting too... maybe watching the Olympics subconsciously primes people for doing those sports some point later...

I have a digital antenna for broadcast TV (mostly hockey games), which was like $8 or something silly and most will be on NBC. Howeverrr, I prefer just VPNing over to a UK IP so I can watch the BBC coverage on their site, which is almost always infinitely better than the dang awful commentators for NBC. 

 

Went to practice and did some bars, so woooo for being more like Madison. ;) 

 

@Flex Luthor has also challenged me to do 22 push-ups for 22 days, which is taken from a 2012 estimation that 22 US veterans commit suicide per day averaged over a year. I don't believe that "raising awareness" will have any impact on something of this nature as everyone knows we already do a very poor job providing the right resources to our veterans. But I will still do the push-ups and I am also donating to The Soliders' Project, which provides free psychotherapy for veterans outside of the drama and red tape of the VA.

I heard this so many times. I actually quite enjoy the commentators. I don't approve of the story heavy editing/take we take on the gymnasts, but that's not the commentators fault. That's just American media and how most people get involved in sport, they need a story to get behind.

I have not heard of this before. I knew our resources for vets were bad, but never heard this number. :o/ Consider at least some awareness raised.

Day 1-2

Was really nauseous all day yesterday so I missed gymnastics practice. Sunday was a Funday, so I have an eating out point used to say farewell to my friend's old restaurant and I'll spend another on Wednesday to say hello to her new one.
