I'mma echo the Tank. It honestly didn't look like a bad week from out here. The real world comes first, and you have to live the life that's yours to live, right?

Good for you that you're under the bar again! It's a fun place to be, although I have to admit, munchies for days, yo. That is a full-body move if ever there was one, and it'll make you eat all the things. True story.

The only way I've been able to stay away from oreos and ice cream myself is that I eat high-carb on those days, and I do up my sweet potatoes like they're a desert item - bake 'em, butter 'em, dash of cinnamon. Rice also - coconut oil and stevia for sweetness. It tastes so good and feels so decadent that my body gives me a pass for eating healthy. :P But that's exactly the point, right? It's not about giving up satisfying food, it's about figuring out what satisfies you and finding ways to be satisfied in healthier ways. For me, it's a matter of having an absolutely killer sweet tooth, so I have to work with it and find ways around it.

Anyway. You are off on your travels now. Good luck! DFTBA! MTFBWY!

The travel goal is awesome, also the idea for the photoshoot!

On the prayer thing, what helped for me is just to start doing a quick prayer in the AM, or before a meal, or anytime that you have a few seconds to do it.  Start there and it will naturally expand as you form the habit of just starting to pray.

Good luck!

Okay!  Week... (what week was that?)  Ok, last week's update.    It was a vacation!  So I did vacation things!   And... the first thing to note was... I was actually much more active on vacation, than I would have been at work doing my bike rides, workouts and hockey, lol!      A normal 7-day calorie burn average for me (when lifting 2-3x a week, biking 2x a week, and hockeying 1-2x a week) is about 2400 calories per day.

I present to you... OUTDOORSY STARPUCK!

XUNmY5x.png?1

2800 calories burned per day!?!  WOW!   So let's break down that epicness eh?

Saturday was travel day, so the walking the airports, the driving, the checking in, etc.   Hit 10k steps, but nothing overly strenuous.    We got to bed early so we could get up early and get to our cave tours!   My friend did the crawl on his belly, through the dark, into holes not meant for my chest to squeeze though one, and I took the Kings Palace guided tour.

We were the first ones to the park and had a quiet desert morning to ourselves at Carlsbad Caverns!

13726716_10209858244603147_3581807353334

I've been to Mammoth Cave, Wind Cave and Jewel Cave and I'll tell ya.   NOTHING prepared me for this cave.  It's immense AND gorgeous!    The Big Room is just so huge!  The guided tour around it is a mile in length!

13680851_10209871281849070_6020316137424

We stuck around from 7am to 8:15pm!   A long day!   We ended up trekking up and out of the natural entrance which, with it's switch backs and hikes, is a mile in distance and gains 800 feet in elevation!   Yup!  I got my HIIT workout in that day for sure!    I also had my pack on, filled with water and snacks - so yay for rucking?!

Monday was Guadalupe Mountains National Park.

We were too exhausted from the day before to get up early enough to attempt the hike to the top of the peak.  (Which is a 8.4 mile, 3000' elevation gain trail).     The mornings started out tolerable with the weather (about 75 degrees at 8am) but by noon, the lowest temp reading we saw on the whole trip was 99!    Too hot to start a hike late in the day.    We opted to do the McKittrick Ridge Canyon trail instead, which checks in at a 6.8 mile round trip hike to the Grotto and back.      A great hike, plenty of scenery and a well kept and marked trail made for a non-nervous Starpuck.   Also more rucking!   We also did a shorter hike near the visitor center too, so we ended up hitting just shy of 13 miles that day, and my Fitbit registered a new PR badge for me!  30,000 steps in one day!   El Capitan in the distance on the left.   The ridge we hiked behind on the right.

We crashed hard Monday, got up Tuesday and began our 5 hour drive to Big Bend.   I'll tell ya... I've been to Alaska (Anchorage to Denali area) and this rode to Big Bend was more remote than anything I traveled through in AK!     We finally got to the area, and checked in at our Mining Ruins Lofthouse.   Terlingua is a ghost town.    It was a big mining town in the early 1900s because the area was rich in cinnabar.   So, it was a mercury mining operation that brought all the people and jobs here.   As soon as the electrical switch was invented, the need for mercury dropped and the mines became unnecessary.

13680771_10209896759085985_234999181886313782016_10209896759605998_5124680985020

Views from around town, and our lofthouse.    The days hit 110, the evenings cooled off to a better than nothing 90.   Mornings started off at about 75.     This place here, was where we ate the second night, and the food was AMAZING!   I like to try local (or more rare than found at home) fare when I am traveling.  So I had the chicken fried wild boar.   IT WAS DELICIOUS!      And this was the sunrise from our lofthouse view.

Sites around the park included lots of amazing mountain ranges and of course, Santa Elena Canyon.

So Wednesday morning we did a canoe trip down the Rio Grande.   Thankfully, we were blessed with cloud cover for the four hour trip downstream!   The river is very low and often is, because from its beginnings in Colorado and from what water should feed into it from Mexico... the lands have siphoned off so much that the GRAND river is nothing more than shallow waters for most of its journey through the park.    Many places we had to have one person get out of the canoe and drag it over shallow areas.  It was still an amazing trip and I am so glad I did it.   (I also took a bathroom break and peed in Mexico behind a bush hahaha.)

Thursday we traveled a near 6 hour drive up to Alamogordo where we'd attend an evening sunset stroll in White Sands National Monument, and then, the next day, do our photo shoot and a 5.5 mile hike on the Alkali Flats Trail.    Thankfully, we got up early enough to do this because we finished at 11:09 and it was already 98 degrees by then!

If you guys want to browse through the whole slew of silly pictures (some good, some bad, some in the midst of me clearing thinking 'By the Hutts it is TOO HOT OUT HERE!') you can check them out on my smug mug album here.  There are some that have fun poses, and ones that I hope to photoshop a lit up lightsaber or R2D2 unit into!

We called it an early day after that, and hung out at the hotel.  I finished A New Dawn (Star Wars book that I had a lot of fun reading) and had dinner and packed up to return home.     It was a great trip!     Definitely pushed myself out of my comfort zone because, traveling with an inexperienced traveler meant that 100% of everything was on my shoulders.    I managed it just fine!     I also didn't back out of the photo shoot, which I am super glad about because it turned out pretty good!

Marked off 3 more National Parks, and another Nat. Monument on my list... which brings my total up to 30/59 national parks.  Phew.

Now... the trick is to get back into routine here... arrrggggh, so hard!

Ooooh that trip sounds so amazing!!! I'm doing a super similar trip this October through the NM/TX national parks and I have now officially added Carslbad Caverns to our list of stops! Holy cow that looks so cool.  I also actually have Mesa Verde on that list because of you too.  So basically thanks for planning my vacation this year. :D

Well you will be helping me plan Hawaii next year, so we make a good team!     Oh!  The reason we stayed late at Carlsbad was to catch the bat flight program that runs at 7:30pm.  Sadly, the bats opted to leave the cave 4-5 at a time, instead of 4000-5000 at a time.  But if it's still going when you're planning to be there, definitely stick around for that!

That trip looks like a blast, well done on those PR's.

It was so fun!   And I've no idea if I gained or lost weight on it, but, ya know... I'm not too concerned either way on it!

Yesterday:

Did the begrudging back to work thing.   Things went very smooth.   Yay!    I chose to get into work early (without food shopping) to get work in order, so I had an egg mcmuffin.   At lunch I went food shopping so I could take my time and got all my stuff for the week.    That means no exercise was had yesterday, but mentally, I believe it was the right choice.    I also caught up on here, woot!    Dinner was a delightful chili salmon with veggies and brown rice.  NOM!

After dinner, I worked on trying to shade and highlight the HK-77 pic.   It's so hard, and I'm not feeling very confident about what I'm trying, but I put about an hour of time into messing around with it.   Tonight, I think I will look up some pics of Al from FMA and see how they shaded him.   I mean, my style is closest to anime style drawing in the first place, so I feel ok copying robot shading from anime in that case.     Also got some RP in on SWTOR.  Looks like my initiate has found a Master to take her on.  Sweet.    I've been debating about backing off on the game's social side though.    Only so as to not burn myself out on all things SW.  (Is that a thing that can even happen?)

Today is back to even closer to routine for me.   Work (eggs, bacon, berries) exercise at lunch.   It's the first day back to the weights - I still don't know what I'm doing.   I need a pre-written program, but one with NOT barbells.   (Shoulder is still doing well and I want to keep it that way.)     Weights today and Thursday, Biking Wed and Fri is the plan.

OH!  Guess what?    I lost weight on vacation.     Like, I am the lowest I've been all 2016!   I dropped about a pound on the trip I think, and am 2.5lbs away from first goal, and that means only 7.5 away from where I think my sweet spot is.    And?  I ate a lot on my trip.  Granted, I also was burning 2800 calories a day, and yesterday I didn't even crack 2000.     So now I need to see how to really really get around to being more active, generally speaking, daily.   Our office is small, and we do everything from our desks...   Even if I got up to walk the office, I'd not even make 100 steps in one lap.   So what do I do?

That looks like a pretty amazing trip. Desert-type places are high on my 'To Travel To' list, so I'm noting all these things down for future use (hopefully). And way to get back at it, it can be hard to get back into a routine like that, half the time I feel like I need a vacation after my vacation just settle back into the usual...

this is like, the biggest question known to those kept in office captivity!!! it's SO HARD to get movement up during the day! can you build in breaks (as if you were a smoker, I guess, but instead a fit person) and take a lap or two around the outside of the building? I have SUCH a hard time with this, I get glued to my chair during the day. it's so bad.

Yeah, we'll see how well it goes for me today... I am both excited and terrified about my lifting session... I know I will be weaker again for a week or two.... damn breaks!

Yeah, I know, right?  Between just being busy, and also feeling guilty leaving my post for something as silly as a walk around the building (which would be PERFECT) - I can't seem to do it.    Sometimes, I will print my orders out and fetch them one by one, but it still doesn't feel like movement lol.

I thought of trying to get up 20 minutes earlier and do a walk before leaving for work... but I am such a sleep hoarder I'm not sure on that either.

First workout post vacation.   I lowered the weights, and stuck with my most familiar exercises.  I didn't want to feel discouraged from the break in training and leaving me all weak sauce.   It's also still bloody hot in the warehouse... the spot we work out gets zero air flow.  I mean ZERO.   So after last week's streak of near 100 days, it's a cesspit of mugginess back there.    Still, felt good to get back on that horse, and now I have new exciting news that is making me even more enthusiastic about it!

So guys guys guys!!!  Ya know how just earlier I was lamenting about needing/wanting some program out there that I could follow so I don't have to think about things all the time?   Well right before lunch, I get an email from my old boxing gym (Knockout, Women's Boxing) and Coach Jess is JUST starting up a monthly, online- virtual strength training program!   She writes up 2 workouts a week, for 4 weeks and you just pay for access to it through exercise.com.   Annnnd, I checked into this exercise.com shindig, and I kinda really like it!   It's $20 a month but I find that so worth it.  Because it supports small/local businesses and Coach Jess is so amazing and empowering and healthy and awesome!  And really, that's pretty cheap - and and and, I did so well when I was doing her strength programs IN gym with her.   So yeah!  I got myself a program.  One that will change every few weeks too!   SO EXCITE!

SO EXCITE!

Great news!

Sooo, I, being a good aunt, who purchased tickets to Comic Con for my nephew for his 13th b-day... also, obliged him with the final piece of his cosplay idea.    You see, they saw my jedi pics, and he told his mom, "Mom, I think I am currently underdressed for this..."  because all he had was a Stormtrooper hoodie.      His brilliantly geeky young mind *sniff* (so proud) came up with the idea of, 'Business casual Stormtrooper'.   All he needed was a decent helmet.    So, I got him one and shipped it out.  They got it today and he previewed the ensemble for me.

I am seriously excited for this outing with this kid!

In other news, more good fooding.     And I did an almost 8 mile bike ride on my lunch break and stopped for some fat free vanilla creamer.   The 'make it yourself' iced coffees are a serious addiction right now.    So hot outside, sooo cool and creamy.

Tonight is some art, some SWTOR, some reading.

Took the rough sketch and started inking it in Manga Studio tonight.  Will be our Chiss pilot, Rohan.
