Sara Kingdom Can't Be Having With This

Recommended Posts

I don't have a new challenge yet, but I'll need a thread ready when I get back.

Things I will make a challenge out of:

  • Sleep - more and earlier
  • Water - increase average
  • IF - resume and maintain
  • Meditation - improve regularity and length
  • New day-splitting routines - with IF and working at home, activities drift a little more than they ought.
  • A better productivity measure for this month's tasks
  • Nerd Fitness Academy - I need to learn to follow a routine

I think my theme will be Lancre witches, but I'm not sure yet quite what it'll be.

I think I remember you... you used to do challenge with the Monks, right? ;)

But one day you will.

I'll continue to chime in occasionally.  I seem to be on a little forum hiatus, but it pays to know where the witches are.

I thought you'd been a bit quiet lately.  Well, sometimes it's nice to hang out, too.  And, as you say, it's wise to know where to find the witches.

Following along! Oh, and...

Hail Hydrate.

...I'll go refill the water bottle now.

They are the very best, along with all the other very best things about Discworld.

Sort of by definition.  I think Granny Weatherwax reserves the right to define the term.

Following and looking forward to witches. I like the combination of practical wisdom and magic that Pratchett gives his witches.

How was your vacation?

The Bed

Nanny Ogg looked under her bed in case there was a man there.  Well, you never knew your luck.

  • Sleep - # of hours: 12 points
  • Sleep - in bed before 11: 5 points

There are reasons.  I needed it.  Also, the wonderful thing about putting Nanny Ogg quotes in this category is that I'm fairly sure there's nothing I could do in a bed that she'd disapprove of, including spending twelve hours sleeping in it.

The Bees

Bees were [Granny Weatherwax's] one failure.  There wasn't a mind in Lancre she couldn't Borrow.  She could even see the world through the eyes of earthworms.  But a swarm, a mind made up of a thousand mobile parts, was beyond her.  It was the toughest test of all.  She'd tried over and over again to ride on one, to see the world through ten thousand pairs of multi-faceted eyes all at once, and all she'd ever got was a migraine and an inclination to make love to flowers.

  • Meditation - # of five-minute sets: 2 points

The Bottle

Distillation of alcohol was illegal in Lancre. On the other hand, King Verence had long ago given up any idea of stopping a witch doing something she wanted to do, so merely required Nanny Ogg to keep her still somewhere it wasn’t obvious. She thoroughly approved of the prohibition, since this gave her an unchallenged market for her own product,  known wherever men fell backwards into a ditch as ‘suicider'.

  • Water - # of liters: 3 points

The Bones

"If it gives you trouble again, you know where I live. You know where everyone lives.  Tuesday mornings is a good time.  I'm generally in."

I SHALL REMEMBER.  THANK YOU.

  • Daily structure - intermittent fasting (out of 1): 1 point
  • Daily structure - morning work startup routine (out of 5): 0 points
  • Daily structure - extra task bonus: 3 points
  • Daily structure - 5 each health/work/chores split (out of 6): 4 points

I still haven't quite found the right way to timebox bits of my work day.  Bad enough being in charge of my own schedule, but not having meals during the day kind of gets rid of a lot of the ways you mentally divide up the day.  So I'm still working on that.  Could be some yoga, but I'd rather find something I don't control the scheduling of, so I can't let it slide.

The Body

Granny looked out at the dull grey sky and the dying leaves and felt, amazingly enough, her sap rising.  A day ago the future had looked aching and desolate, and now it looked full of surprises and terror and bad things happening to people… if she had anything to do with it, anyway.

This is mostly a rest day.  A badly-needed one, for various reasons.  But on the whole, I'm back from my vacation in great shape for a challenge.  Had a great time, did a lot of walking, lost some weight.  Desperately in need of some stretching, I think.  A bit stiff from sleeping oddly, and sore from, I dunno, things.

Headology is a useful thing to master in most jobs.  I need to learn more headology.

There needs to be some shameless and unabashedly loud singing in honor of Nanny Ogg.  Something about wizards' staffs, or hedgehogs....

I can't be having with folk songs.  They go around, talking about spring and dancing and what-not, looking all innocent, and then you come to learn they're about summat else.

Trying to see through the eyes of a swarm of bees sounds like meditation.

Also, a friend sent me this and I thought of you:  http://narrativia.com/wee-free-men-announcement.html

A mind with a thousand mobile, buzzing parts sounds just about right.

I saw that yesterday!  Henson seems like just about the perfect people to do it, too.  I hope they get some appropriately terrible Feegles.

You know, of all the animal kingdom, the hedgehog really is, in fact, quite fortunate.

But think of the courtship difficulties.

Food as an aphrodisiac was not a concept that had ever caught on in Lancre, apart from Nanny Ogg’s famous Carrot and Oyster Pie. (Carrots so you can see in the dark, she’d explain, and oysters so’s you’ve got something to look at.)

I am utterly starving today.  I moved back my IF eating period by an hour, because I needed to concentrate on work and not food.  Now I've been eating for an hour, and just can't get enough food into me.  So hungry.  (This is rare for me on IF.  I've been hungry since I got home, and my sleep needs have also gone up lately, so I have to think there's some physical repair going on that needs sleep and food.)

I am so hungry, I would buy a sausage off of Dibbler.  I would steal a curry from Death.  I would eat anything Nanny Ogg put in front of me, regardless of how ridiculous it looked.

I am so sorry. Probably for the best you changed your IF window, then.

Well, with enough mustard...

Isn't a copious amount of alcohol also recommended beforehand?  Or just an unfortunate coincidence?  Granted, that could also lead to folk singing....

The good thing about a 20-hour/4-hour split is that I don't feel too bad when I step down to an 18-hour/6-hour split.  I've got a little room to adjust things.

Mustard does help, I'm sure.  Mustard, I feel, is probably an Ankh-Morpork speciality.

Depends who you ask, probably.  The Patrician would tell you that strong drink is a mocker, while Nanny Ogg would say that copious amounts of alcohol are recommended beforehand, regardless of what the meal is.

I can't be having with that.  (Although there are a number of variations on the hedgehog song...)

Sick today.  Plane crud.  Massive sinus headache.  Switching to 16/8 IF, just to get some nutrients into the system, I think.  Who the heck knows, this isn't rocket magic.
