SnowOwl - Druid Novice

SnowOwl

Recommended Posts

Towards the end of her visit to the Hidden Forest, SnowOwl approached the Master Druid who oversaw the Novices.

After much meditation and conversation he added her name to the roll.

The main things for a Novice to acquire so that she can become an Apprentice are, a calm mind and the habit to reach for meditation whenever the mind needs calming or focus, a healthy body that is in line with the calm mind, and the beginning of an understanding about what things are truly important and what things to let flow past.

I received my first assignment from the Novice Master this morning.

I am to review my completed challenges, searching for helpful things I worked on in the past and start bringing them back into focus.

I met with the Novice Master again this evening. We reviewed my past goals and talked about why I haven’t maintained them and how much I’m struggling now because I haven’t focused on them.

Spoiler

This looks to be a very busy and challenging week for me with having to go back to work and my nephew coming for a visit later in the week. Currently I have two temp jobs to bring in some cash while I attempt to be patient and figure out a plan. In the meantime, I need to fix my bad attitude and maintain some degree of mental health. (I left an hour early today because I was almost in tears - I’m totally incompetent at this temp job. I promised to come back tomorrow though and they promised to give me more guidance.)

We grouped my past goals into categories and then I selected the most important ones to focus on during the coming week - the ones that will really help me right away. When I feel that these are solid and I’m ready, I will slowly add in others from the list - upon approval from the Novice Master who will review things at the end of this week.

Current Goals:

DIET:

Drink at least 90oz of water every day

Eat at least 3000 calories a day

FITNESS:

Stretch every night before bed

Walk with my dog every morning

MENTAL HEALTH:

Be up and out of bed by 7am, 6 days a week

Meditate at least once every day, plus anytime I’m feeling upset

Create at least one art thing before Saturday at 8pm

ADULTING:

Zero youtube videos this week (unless arting along with a tutorial)

Monday:

Today was much better and I was given tasks I am good at rather than ones I can not do. Tired, but took my dog to his playgroup this evening and enjoyed walking along the river. I get to be at home almost all day tomorrow! My plan is to get my diet goals on track by doing some baking and meal planning. I especially need some healthy vegan-ish protein snacks prepped.

And there were some kids running through the dense willow brush at the river this evening chasing Pokemon. It was awesome to see them running and exploring - I've never seen kids playing there before and that brush is perfect for adventures! (It's only clear/open down low at kid height.)

DIET:

Drink > 90oz YES

Eat 3000cal NO

FITNESS:

Stretch YES

Walk YES

MENTAL HEALTH:

Be up by 7am  NO (and I’m so glad! It was a decision I made the day before so I'm not counting it against myself - I needed sleep.)

Meditate YES (off to do this now)

Create not yet

ADULTING:

Zero youtube YES

Tuesday:

I worked in the community garden for 2 hours this morning. I came home tired with my willpower all used up. I did do laundry (I love seeing the laundry outside on the line blowing in the breeze!) and then since I was not making any progress cleaning, I took my dog down to the river for some playtime. I need to remember to take breaks and enjoy my day like this more often.

I baked zucchini bread with hemp seeds and walnuts today so I have a good snack for the rest of the week. And I did great with my eating today - it’s so much easier when I’m at home.

I made wild blackberry shortcake with coconut whipped cream for a treat tonight. I picked the berries while I was down at the river this afternoon. I’m hoping to go back soon so I can pick enough to make a batch of jam.

DIET:

Drink > 90oz YES

Eat 3000cal YES

FITNESS:

Stretch YES

Walk YES (forgot this morning, but we got a walk in at the river later)

MENTAL HEALTH:

Be up by 7am  YES

Meditate YES

There are lots of good yeses there :)

What have you got growing in the community garden?

This sounds like such a lovely day!  Community garden, laundry on the line, berry picking and time with the pup!  I'm about to go to my first day volunteering at our community garden. :). Nervous but excited to try something new.

I really love your challenge.  You have obviously learned a lot about yourself.  That's what keeps me co in back to NF, even after a not-so-successful challenge.  There is always some knowledge to be gained.

A bit of everything - beans, peas, tomatoes, broccoli, potatoes, cabbage, eggplant, strawberries, flowers, carrots, cilantro, kohlrabi, spinach, lettuce, plus a few other veg that I don't like. It's a communal garden, so all the members help out with selecting crops, planting, weeding, etc. I tend to help more with veg that I like. ; ) It's fun having a group garden, and there are two people who took on the water system so I never have to remember to water! I just weed, which is rather meditative for me. :)

Wednesday:

I started learning how to tie-dye today!

I wasn’t able to track much, so these are my best guesses.

DIET:

Drink > 90oz NO

Eat 2600 - 3000cal YES (gave myself some wiggle room because I’m wasn’t being very realistic with this)

FITNESS:

Stretch YES - yoga class!

Walk NO (I took him to my friend’s house with me to see her dog and we all had a lot of fun! close enough)

MENTAL HEALTH:

Be up by 7am  YES

Meditate YES (off to do this momentarily, did some "zen" weeding early today. )

Create - I tie-dyed today! My friend taught me the basics and let me use all her supplies. It wasn’t the art I had planned, and I still want to do some art journaling, but I created! I don’t get to see if/how it turned out until tomorrow though.

ADULTING:

Zero youtube YES

Yes to pics of your tie-dye!  That reminds me that I want to try bleaching shirts with a bleach pen.  You can make really cool designs that way.

The community garden was wonderful!  I got to use this big 'backpack' filled with organic fertilizer to spray all the leafy vegetables.  My shoulders are super sore after doing that for an hour! Also, learned about harvesting garlic.  I really can't wait to go back.  Hope I get to the point where weeding is meditative! :). I usually abhor weeding but I suppose it is different when you are doing it for someone else.

It is! I'm being paid by the hour, so no stress of all the things I "should" be doing when I'm at home. I just relax, enjoy being outside and stay in the moment because sitting there weeding is all I can or need to do right then. :)

I made new kitchen towels!

They are super cool. Tie dyeing isn't really my thing, but those tea towels are just too good. Especially the light blue one in the middle.
