Watch out for Bears

Fluffy

Recommended Posts

Off on another challenge!  Since I went "off the beaten path" last time, I went for "watch out for bears" this time.  Hey, it's hard coming up with titles!  So anyone who saw my last challenge knows I injured an arm and got a long summer cold, so I had to scratch a few goals.  This challenge I am aiming for a mix of fitness and lifestyle (last challenge I had branched off of fitness)

  • Meditate twice a week.
  • Arrive at work at least 3 min early
  • Daily Duolingo
  • Drink 60 oz of water a day
  • Eat 5 servings of fruit/veggies daily
  • 5 side planks each side WITH leg lifts
  • Continue exploring new workouts
  • Simplify - remove two items from house daily

I'd really like to put a push up goal, but I don't want to re-injure my arm.  Ok, so this is boring, but I wanted it up for the challenge start tomorrow.  OH WAIT!

  • Post kitten picture

Now, that's a goal!

oooh, yes that would be a no-no. You are very wise to be intentional about that. I'm in the same boat with running. I keep wanting to go, but then I remember my stupid foot and grumble about it.

Nice to see you again! I'll be following along.

Where's that kitten picture?! ;)

Great goals! I'm doing Duolingo this time too and really like it so far. What language are you learning?

@Rebel_Timelord I'm working on Spanish - we have a lot more Spanish only speaking moving into the area, so I'm trying to learn.  I'm currently on a 40 day streak (it was part of challenge last time too) and I've got 1,550 "points".  Still can't say much except the bear eats cats or the horse drinks milk though.  I was told I was talking "nonsense" by one of my co-workers. Sigh

(Although I can't blame them when I just had to translate El oso no cabe por la puerta)

Let's see, not quite hitting the get to work early goal - I'm early but not 3 minutes.  I need to stop lolly-gagging at home in the am.

I'm doing ok on the water intake - glad I added that goal in though because its been really hot and I need the reminder to make sure I'm drinking.  The five servings of fruit/veggies a day has been hard too - who knew how few veggies there are in mac and cheese or hamburgers???  I've met the goal every day, but its really increased my awareness of getting those good calories in.

And I'm happy to report at least two items daily are leaving the house!  I've got a list going of everything - it's nice to see.  Some items have been hard, most not too bad so far.  As I run out of easy things to toss, this goal will get harder tho!  Stay tuned for emotional heartbreak over tchotchkes!!

I hear you. I'm planning my own declutter project - "planning" because I haven't quite gotten to the point of doing yet. I've realized that I tend to accumulate stuff that 1) I think I 'should' want, or 2) I want to be the sort of person who would want/use such a thing. But then I'm not really being true to me, am I?

One thing that has helped me in the past is to donate anything that is remotely useable. That way, I'm not wasting anything. I'm just sending it back into the world, where it can find a better home.

Today's practice threw me a bit. There were a few sentences along the lines of "I am a horse" that I would translate as "It is" or "They are" because "I am" seemed nonsensical. Overall I'm improving and try to speak it as much as I can. I'm on Duolingo as RebelTimelord if you want to connect. (And that invite is for anyone else reading this post, too.)

I guess El oso no cabe por la puerta could come in handy if one worked in a zoo...

How have your physical/exercise goals been going??

It's been good. I was surprised how quickly my body adapted to the beginner body weight workout, so I upped the reps and added some additional weights for this new challenge. I anticipate moving into free weights in the next challenge or two.

@Rebel_Timelord You made me laugh again!  Put it in your good deeds bank.

@Traxex I was kinda hoping no one noticed I skipped those!  Lol.  Actually they are going ok - I tried some kind of cardio/yoga HIIT mix as a new type of workout.  Those side planks are tough though!  I did the modified ones yesterday with the leg lifts - youch!  I still can't really get that leg to lift at all in full side plank - my brain is shooting signals to my top leg and it's all....uhhhh, nothing!

That honestly doesn't sound appealing to me! I want my yoga to be relaxing! hehe

So I'm on vacation...beautiful in the Finger Lakes.  We are with family and its nice.  Of course I take a picture and it's still too big, so  you will have to imagine it.  Water intake is fine as it's in the 90s so I'm drinking a ton.  I did my strength training yesterday as scheduled.  I did miss the veggie goal yesterday...only got 3.  I'm focused on it as it's hard to eat healthy on vacation.  I'm already at 4 today.

I set aside 10 items to be removed from the house before we left.  All books.  So, I'm keeping up.  Will work hard to get in my 2 workouts (one is cardio) and eat those veggies/fruits!!!!

Sending relaxation and focus to everyone!!!!!

I know what you mean. Something I did this week made my old ankle injury flare up. I'm trying to figure out what it was.

Looking forward to the kitten picture, too.

Yeah, but HOW. I don't know why this is so hard, but I do it aaaaaallll the time. and I'm most productive in the mornings, so if I don't it in the morning, I'm dunzo.

Kudos to you being so successful WHILE ON VACAY. Enjoy the break and keep up the good work!

I'm back!  That was a super busy week - yikes!  So I've officially met the post a kitten pic goal.  And yes, its hard to meditate or work out with him around.  He attacked the ypga mat today while I was working out and then crammed his body in between my arms and legs while I was in a complicated pose - sigh.  Kitten obstacle yoga!  Maybe I could open a center.  Think of all the kittens saved!  And a new exercise fad too!

Ok - update.  I have been able to meditate twice a week, although I'm cramming the second one in sometimes.  I haven't quite got that one in as a habit yet.  I am not doing well with arriving early to work - it seems like I am going fine, then something happens to set me back (kitten gets stepped on, kitten is trapped in a closet, my stomach says you better not leave or you'll be sorry, kitten knocks over a large amount of water).  A bit frustrating because I know this is totally in my own control!  Grr.

Started struggling with the water intake as well - I missed that one once so far, but I'm chugging at night again which isn't good.  Need a better flow with this (ha!)

Honestly I have no idea how people eat this many fruit and/or vegetables a day.  This has been hard (knew it would be a challenge).  I missed twice last week.  I think this is also interfering with the water goal - I feel full and then drink water and my stomach is all - did you WANT that to come back up?  Lay off sister!!

And while the fruit/vegetable goal is tough-ish now, I don't know how to keep it up in the fall/winter.  I am eating a salad daily for lunch now, but all that stuff gets expensive later.  I'm still pondering that.

I am very close to the side plank goal.  I am happy to report they are getting easier and I can add a leg lift now for some of them.  Here's hoping I can build that up by the end of the challenge.

Duolingo - hitting it every day.  Also, I see @Rebel_Timelord adding points on it and my competitive side kicks in!

Simplify - I have sent 2-3 items out the door daily!  It's getting harder as the easy stuff is gone now.  My husband is thrilled and has challenged me to keep this goal for the next 30 day challenge in order to send a grand total of over 120 items out of the house.

Ok, that's the news!  I will try to check in more and read up on all your updates too!  I can't believe how busy I got there.  Good busy though.  :)

I leave you with this...

If you're using "official" guidelines for servings, the servings are usually pretty tiny, like "Spinach, 1/2 cup cooked." That's more like a condiment than a side dish! (Or maybe I just need to work on my portion control. Nahhh, can't be that.)

I struggle with adding veggies too. Hang in there!

And I would like to know when you'll open your kitten obstacle yoga studio. I'd like to be a charter member.
