I have heard other on the forum say that they are self conscious, and given the choice I'd rather be a bit self conscious than have the ego of a 16 year old boy;)

Having been a 16 year old boy, you're not wrong.

Lots of cool active and overcoming self-consciousness thingies, but also yay blueberries! I picked some last weekend with Sir Vimes on Blueberry Island. (So named because... wild blueberry bushes. That he and his sister didn't notice for over a decade!)

I approve of your efforts to turn around the negative self talk. It's hard though, I get it. Worth it to get used to though, I think, so you don't have to feel limited to doing things unseen... That can be hard to arrange!

Thanks, yeah, really have to just get used to it, or resign myself to just working out in a gym on a treadmill, which I don't mind others seeing me, but I'd just as soon poke myself in the eye with a sharp stick;)

Today:

I took my 20 seconds of courage and decided to do hill sprints up our hill . Courage needed because I feel super awkward running where people can see me. I am just sure they can tell I am not a runner:redface-new: Told myself I could just do one, and if the neighbors all came out and laughed, I could stop.;) But, our street during the day is pretty quiet, and no one noticed. Ran up it 4 times, the last 2 times half walk half run. I chose this hill because it was a long, light incline. I thought it might be good to get my HR up. I would like it to be about 130, but it rarely goes over 120. Not sure if my Fitbit just doesn't read it accurately, or if my muscles give out before my cardio. On the 3rd sprint, I had to slow down, not for breath, but my legs just wouldn't keep going.

Hubby dropped me off at the hairdressers, so I could walk back and then have energy to go for a walk with him again in the evening. After my haircut, I went to the local coffee shop for a kombucha and treat. The treat was a small oat bar, that was supposedly 2 servings, so it totaled like 360 calories and a ton of carbs. I told myself I'd just eat half, but that didn't happen. Then I walked home, lots of hills, but only a little over 2 miles. But, it was getting muggy outside, and I was super hot. By the time I got home, I was so tired.Went and sat in our air conditioned bedroom, and felt a bit better. Hubby fixed some delicious burgers  for dinner. I was just going to have those and no other carby thing because of the oat bar, but then I was hungry later and so I ate a banana. Which could just be that the oatbar had sugar, and I was sort of sugar crashing, or it could have been real hunger. Next time I will bring a Lara Bar, skip the oatbar, and just enjoy the Kombucha. Didn't go on the walk with hubby, I was too beat. He came back, and said yeah it really is muggy. Food, I was over today by about 100 calories, call it a bulking day.

Drank all my water + today.

Looked at a fun place for hubby and I to spend a long weekend. Just a few spare moments, didn't look at hotels, but it was a start.

I was super conscious about strength/bodyweight workouts, especially with our back neighbour who would purposely come stand by the fence and look what I'm doing. I just had to learn to ignore it. Now he luckily doesn't do that any more. I don't have a problem running/walking in the street though, probably because there are so many other people who walk or run and they are all shapes and sizes. It is familiar, so no one looks twice, I think. I'm more conscious of training alone in the street though.

Sounds like a good, intense run you did there. And a nice treat at the hairdressers afterwards.

Nice job on the hills!

If find that when I try to buy something to eat, there is never a good option. It's ridiculous. I've totally given up on convincing myself to just eat half of things. My wife can do it but I just don't have that off switch. If I don't tear it in half and throw away half of it, I'll eat it. Even if I do I'll spend the whole time I'm eating sulking about how I just bought it and threw away half.

Off to a great start! I feel ya on the self-conscious thing, especially about running. If I didn't hate the treadmill so much, I wouldn't do that in public either, I always feel like I'm so slow and plodding compared to the 'real' runners out there. That said, when I feel like stopping to walk and I see another person, I keep running even when I don't want to, because I don't want to seem like I can't. To a complete stranger who I'll probably never see again and who is probably not even paying attention to me anyway. Weird how the brain works....

Gardening question for you: I have a sweet potato that I forgot about and now has shoots. I want to plant it, but my yard is really shady, and also if I dug a hole in my mother's garden she would not be pleased. I know you can grow potatoes in a small space in a container, do you have any experience with that sort of gardening, and/or suggestions on what kind of container (ie. tall and skinny, short and wide, something else)? I figured I'll stick it on my front porch, which gets a bit of sun, and see what happens. If I don't get anything out of of it, oh well, and if I do, yay! At this point in the season, though, it might just make nice leaves...

My form also gets much better when I'm passing walkers. When I get tired I tend to slump forward a bit, but when I pass a walker I get all upright and shoulders back and good long strides with bounce in my step. Then I get around the corner, and I'm like 'Gah, so tired!' and go back to plodding. I wonder if having a running partner would be good for my form, or if I'd just slump anyway...?

I also feel SO awkward when I run in my neighborhood. I don't mind walking there (I do that every day), but I feel like everyone is judging me when I run. Which is totally nuts, but apparently a very human response. It helps when I ask myself what I think when I see someone else out running. If I even notice the only thing I usually think is "good for them". And I certainly never watch them long enough to see what kind of form they're running with. I'm too busy with my own stuff and I'm sure everyone else is too.

4 is better than 1, well done EG! I still sometimes get weirded out by people watching me run or climb or whatever I'm doing but when I do take that 20 seconds of courage I always feel much better for having done so :)

Well done for getting past that awkward barrier, I would certainly feel the same way. I hated my neighbours see my leave my house for a run, I used to wait until I was far off my street until I started back when I was giving it a go.

This is the benefit of a 5 minute warm up and cool down walk. It means I'm never running on my road.

Well actually where I live has been rather cool. Barely hitting 70. So my "hot" day was only 80 something:redface-new:But in my defense, it hadn't been hot at all, and by nightfall we had thuderstorms, so the muggy air was moving in.

I remember that with your creepy neighbor. My neighbor is nice, and probably didn't even notice me. I walk all the time  not feeling self conscious, I guess it's just that I haven't run much so I feel awkward.

Thanks. I am really not good at just eating half the things either. If I can split it with someone, that works.Otherwise I end up eating it, or just feeling grumpy. And half of this oat bar was like 2 bites. One of those you know noone eats half of it. Heat- actually here it has been very cool, and then we finally get some sun, so I feel bad about complaining. See my note above to Skin-n-Bones- to see what a Seatttlite considers hot.:)

Yeah, I think my brain tells me it is more of a problem then it is.  I'd choose a short and wide pot, since they are underground, and need room. I've never done sweet potatoes before

:) Maybe this is why I'm self conscious, runners pass me , and they are going so fast, and I always wonder how they keep it up. Now I know, as soon as they get past me they slow down:lol:

Yeah, I asked myself that too. Answer same as yours, really not watching others form, or caring.  I'm the same way, I walk all the time without worrying what others think.

Truth.  I really don't run, but I would like to up my Ranger skills and do a bit of running, I just have to figure out where. The only not hilly place is the busy road. Which has a sidewalk, but really self conscious about it. Hoping that running hills in my neighborhood gives me enough confident boost to run there.

If I may jump in. Sweet potatoes don't go very deep as some potato plants do. I have a used to have a whole batch (Labrador decided it was very nice to lie on) growing as ground cover (and for my gardener as extra food every now and again). The pot doesn't have to be very deep (2-3 hands width deep), but you'll need some horizontal space. Mine gets a fair bit of sun though.

Good day. Went on a 4.2 mile ruck. Kept feeling like my pack was riding too low, couldn't figure out why. Finally remembered I had taken the towel out that I used to stuff the bottom of the pack with. Ah well, still got a good ruck in.

Played Uno for game night, which we hadn't done in forever, and is still one of those good classic games  that always is good for an evening of laughs and fun.
