Big_Show
Hey there, nerds! I'm back for another challenge and this time I'm staying around for the whole thing! Over the last few months I did my best to lose weight and get back down to the size I was when I moved out here a couple of years ago. I was halfway successful; I made it from 116kg to 108kg before I stalled and plateaued, and now it's about time I got rid of the last 8kg - my goal is to see if I can drop this by the time I go to Camp NF, which by my reckoning is about two full challenges away. I've opted for one of the pre-made programmes from Bodybuilding.com and I'm just gonna do exactly what it tells me; it splits the week into three different workouts (back & biceps, Chest, shoulder & triceps, and legs & abs) and follows a schedule of two days on, one day off. The off days are cardio, and there's also some cardio after the back & biceps session. So my goals for this challenge are very simple. And there are only two of them: 1) Do every daily workout. No excuses. 2) Don't eat like an arsehole. I think it's all pretty self-explanatory; I might add something else in if and when it becomes apparent I need to. Time to crack on! 6 Quote Big Show: Human Swift Hunter Respawning. One day at a time. Big_Show
Week 1, Day 1 Monday 18th July And so it begins. Absolutely knackered today - still jetlagged to hell, but I'm gradually getting there now. Hit the gym after work for the first session of my new programme - today was a short back & biceps day: - w/u - bent over two-dumbbell row - 10,10,max: 2x25lbs for 10, 10, 20 - increase weight next time - negative-rep pull-ups - 10,10,max: 5, 3, 2 - got a long way to go with these! - barbell curl - 10,10,max: 50lbs for 10, 10, 6 - stick with the same weight until the third set max is higher - dumbbell alternate bicep curl - 10,10,max: 2x20lbs for 10, 10, 8 - stick with the same weight until the third set max is higher - 4.82k in 30mins on the cross-trainer doing an interval programme This was actually my first ever workout where I've deliberately worked my arms, and not just to help with my swimming. I actually got a bit of an arm pump going, although it was sadly brief. Hopefully last longer next time though! I have eaten well today - porridge for breakfast, batch-prepped chicken & veggies for lunch, and steak & veggies for dinner. Gonna be exactly the same tomorrow, although I do also have some apples in the office to snack on if necessary. Back to the gym after work tomorrow for chest, shoulders, and triceps. Should be interesting! 7 Quote Big Show: Human Swift Hunter Respawning. One day at a time. Big_Show
Week 1, Day 2 Tuesday 19th July I slept well last night! Got to sleep when I actually wanted to, didn't wake up too often, and stayed asleep until my alarms went off! Nice to feel vaguely human again. Definitely made going to work easier (or as easy it gets). Today's workout was the first of the Chest, Shoulders & Triceps split. I erred on the side of caution for the weights as I had no real idea what I could lift. Turns out I got it about right for most of them! - w/u - barbell bench press - 10,10,max: 88lbs for 10, 10, 14 - increase weight next time - incline dumbbell flyes - 10,10,max: 2x20lbs for 10, 10, 15 - increase weight next time - seated dumbbell press - 10,10,max: 2x20lbs for 10, 10, 10 - should hit 12+ on the max set next time, then increase - side lateral reaise - 10,10,max: 2x10lbs for 10, 10, 16 - increase weight next time - lying dumbbell tricep extension - 10,10,max: 10, 10, 25 - way too light, definitely increase weight next time... - bench dips - 10,10,max: 7, 7, 6 - way too heavily, lose a couple of stone by next time I did feel quite a strong tricep burn by the end of all this, and my arms definitely got bigger again - I like this programme! I can tell it's going to work my chest too as the weights increase, so hopefully these man-titties of mine will turn into actual factual pectorals at some point. Or at least just stop looking like I need a sports bra. Either's good. One thing I realised today when the familiar cravings hit - I only ate chocolate once while I was in America, and that was simply because we found a British brand in the supermarket that I insisted my friend try (Terry's chocolate orange, absolutely bloody lovely). So it looks like it's definitely a situational trigger for me, understanding which makes it easier to understand and ignore when I'm at work. I also put in my annual leave request for Camp now I'm back from the last one - turns out I fly out eight weeks today! Another fifteen hour flight to Dallas, but at least time I get to stay off the plane for a few days instead of waiting around for another one. Can't wait for this holiday, it's gonna be awesome! 2 Quote Big Show: Human Swift Hunter Respawning. One day at a time. Big_Show
Day 3 morning weigh-in (yes, I'm back to doing it daily - I work better this way) and the holiday weight is officially gone. Back down to 108.2kg (238.5lbs) - I would normally say this was water weight, but in view of the last two weeks it's far more likely to be beer weight. Now to crack on with getting rid of another 8kg of the keg from around my waist. In other news, MY ELBOWS ARE RIDICULOUSLY DOMS-ED UP TO THE HILT! Yes, two days after my back & biceps session and it not properly hurts to straighten my arms.
