Yasha's back again

Back once again! I dropped off partly due to suspense regarding whether we were moving or not and how to shape my goals around that. Happy to say we have now moved into the new place and taken up the mantle of hosting Monday night DnD which is awesome (see below for pic of our pretty view!). Now that things have settled a bit I’m hopping back on the bandwagon before it’s too late with this challenge (minus a week)’s 3 SMART goals:

5-a-day-freggies. Previously by simply being conscious of my freggie intake I automatically had to make better food choices (but by phrasing it as ‘I have to have xxx, instead of I can’t have yyy’ I had less self-rebellion), bringing back the food-photos wherever possible to make the thread nice and colourful. Specific: I will eat at least 5 combined fruits/veggies (“freggies”) each day, Measurable: x/5 Achievable: ~In previous challenges I have managed 5 freggies, I know I can again. Realistic: Yep. Timely: On a day-by-day, every day a new chance to succeed.

Half-hour walk each day. The new place is just 6mins from the bus stop and I haven’t yet found the best way to walk to work (although I am sure it is possible), I’ve been sacrificing health for the convenience of the bus and I need to wean myself back into walking more (perhaps Pokewalks may be the answer?). Specific: I will walk for half an hour each day either before work (to work?), in lunch, or in the evening (home from work?). Measurable: mins/halfhour Achievable: Half an hour is not too hard a goal, but not overwhelming after so long inactive. Realistic: I think an hour would be too frightening, so aiming for half an hour should make it more realistic. Timely: On a day-by-day, every day a new chance to succeed.

Plastic free JulAugust. I dabbled with plastic free July, but because of moving I wasn’t as strict on myself as I should have been, cracking down on it for what’s left of July and into August and I will be keeping the suggested ‘dilemma bag’ with check-ins at the end of each week. Specific: Cut out the ‘big four’ single plastics (plastic bags, water/softdrink bottles, coffee cups, straws). Measurable: x/0plastics, Achievable: I have been making incremental changes towards this for ages, so the ‘big leap’ won’t be so big. Realistic: I dabbled in plastic free July but didn’t commit due to moving, committing to the big four should be fine now we are settled. Timely: On a day-by-day, every day a new chance to succeed – with check-ins each week.

5-a-day freggies success despite deciding to join after lunch. A carrot, edamame beans, fruit salad, half a banana, tomato, mushrooms. 5.5/5

Half hour walk Walked home from work reading threads and catching up, 45mins. This may end up being a regular way to get the walks in depending on how filth the weather is. 45/30mins.

Plastic free Jul-August I avoided all of the 'big four' single use plastics, brought home the groceries in an assortment of cloth bags. 0/0.

All in all a good start to the challenge. Now to keep it up!

Congrats on the move, that's a gorgeous view.

Following, of course.

Welcome welcome. We still have a whole bunch of unpacking to do (the second bedroom is full of boxes), but it definitely already feels like home. I will follow your challenge just as soon as I find it!

Plastic free Jul-August None of the main plastic offenders, had my beverage in my keeper mug. 0/0.

I'll be interested to know more about how you do your plastic free stuff. I buy a lot of produce and try to bag as little as possible but I feel bad each time I pull a bag off the wheel. Similarly, when I'm marinating some things or storing something that won't fit in a tupperware and opt for my friend the ziplock, I feel a little bad about it.

I have these for produce and really like them.  They're very light and fairly well see through (so the cashier can find the SKU). Got them for Christmas last year and they're still in great shape. For marinating I have some Pyrex-like casserole dishes with lids that would work for most anything you'd want to marinate

I've been training myself not to use produce bags in general, which in turn is reminding me to rinse my freggies before I eat them. I have a couple of produce-ish bags similar to the ones Maigahane mentioned that I made out of some old curtains for small things like mushrooms to keep them under control for the checkout person. I often go through the self-service aisle if I am feeling self conscious because I can take my time. If I'm going through a standard register I put all my bags at the front of my shopping and ask for no plastic when the assistant greets me. As for marinating I usually put it in a casserole dish with a lid and if it's the casserole dish I want to cook it in just set it on a plate and wash it out before putting in the oven (unless I'm cooking it in the sauce). Ziplock bags can also be washed and used again which I have been doing for anything crumbed/shaken in seasoning that the Mr makes- I just wash the ziplock when he's done.

Those bags look great, and much more reasonably priced than some others I've seen- a good option for the non-sewers, or as you received them, gifts. Thanks for sharing ^_^

5-a-day freggies I had all the same things for lunch as yesterday plus a banana smoothie which means another great big success! Banana, a mandarin, a pear, carrot, zucchini and capsicum, cauliflower, kiwi fruit, passion fruit. 8/5 = RANGERED!

Half hour walk Walked home, 49mins. 49/30mins. Not sure if this was way longer or if I caught more Pokemon...

Plastic free Jul-August None of the main plastic problems, ate dinner at eat street and requested the cardboard option instead of the plastic plate. It was going super well until I got soup in a bun- for some reason I didn't realise they would give me a plastic spoon *sigh* one for the dilemma bag I guess... 0/0.

I have tomorrow off work to study for an exam on Monday, but I'm hoping to still hit all my goals, even without the 'easy' option of walking home (perhaps I'll do a poke walk in the sunshine if I get a bunch of study done early.

This mug is adorable!

I love it because it's almost like swearing at work xp the coffee shop peeps always get a kick out of it as well.

carrot sticks to the rescue! I always say that I can't cook, but when I pull my finger out and actually try I'm not all that bad, just full of excuses. Freggies always make things fun and colourful too ^_^

5-a-day freggies My last day of this batch of food prep. Because I wasn't at work I mixed up the order and had subway for lunch (huzzah plastic free takeaway) and 'lunch' for dinner. I need to make sure I meal prep tomorrow since it really makes the difference to, as Sloth puts it, not eat like an asshole. Banana, a mandarin, a pear, carrot, zucchini and capsicum, cauliflower, salad on the sub. 7/5 = RANGERED!

Half hour walk Did a dedicated 30mins (timer and all) through the shops looking for a bathroom bin option that wasn't smothered in plastic, I also did a fair bit of untimered walking with the Mr on date lunch- we missed the bus so walked three stops until the next one came along, I estimate 20mins. 50/30mins. My battery was almost flat so I didn't hatch a single egg :(

Plastic free Jul-August Spent a bit of extra time eating date lunch in rather than taking away, specially chose a bin that didn't have a plastic wrapper (the irony of choosing a recycling bin for the bathroom loo rolls that was wrapped in plastic would have been too much for me). While Mr isn't doing plastic free he is supporting me in it and today borrowed my keeper fork to eat his icecream rather than taking a plastic spoon, perhaps I am rubbing off...? 0/0.

Studying was practically non existent, I located my textbook from the moving boxes and submitted an assessment piece which was already done, I expect bigger and better things tomorrow!

5-a-day freggies Just made five today. Mr's mum and sister came to visit and we went out for dinner so I didn't end up batch cooking, although I did pre cook some carrots and zucchini that we're starting to go a bit floppy. Carrot, passion fruit, kiwi fruit, Apple, salad with guac. 5/5

Half hour walk Did two laps of the food street before deciding and I did a bit of walking earlier in the day, unsure of exact times, so counting it as 30/30mins.

Plastic free Jul-August Dinner was take away but we managed to come out of it with minimal plastic damage- 2plastic bags to carry the foil boxes home... I'm not counting it as a loss since my mother In law to be took one bag with her and I used the other to line my bin. 0/0.

Studying was better today but again I expect bigger and better things tomorrow!

5-a-day freggies Just made five again today. Avocado on toast, Apple, spicy mushrooms, a double serve of sweet potato. 5/5

Half hour walk Studying kills this pretty bad, didn't even leave the house :/ 0/30mins.

Plastic free Jul-August Didn't leave the house, very easy to hit this goal 0/0.

Studying was my focus but it was difficult to stick to- I did the maths and I only need to get 3 marks on the exam to pass the subject, which makes it pretty hard to motivate studying.

5-a-day freggies Just made five again today by making up a healthy DnD platter. Apple, 2 carrots, snap peas, strawberries. 5/5

Half hour walk I finished my exam quite early so I went for a nice long walk, 90/30mins.

Plastic free Jul-August Only allowed clear plastic water bottles, and your valuables needed to be in a see through ziplock. I had a plastic bottle in the freezer which I was able to use, I borrowed one of the provided zip locks then gave it back at the end. A big risk of using plastic but none in the exam. We had pizza however, and the sides came in a plastic bag :( 1/0.

I finished my exam an hour and a half early and I left no questions blank so I'm hopeful. Because the exam is a 'must pass' task I need to have got 25marks to pass.

Forgot to update last night, had a crummy day and ended up having a unplanned nap at 6pm, really threw off my groove...

5-a-day freggies Stall made 5 despite crumminess, avo on toast, roast carrot, zucchini and sweet tater, apple 5/5

Half hour walk walked home from work 50/30mins.

Plastic free Jul-August None of the big four 0/0.

I'm getting easily frustrated by the team leader at the moment, I'm sure he's not picking on me particularly and it's just my brain cranking because he got the position and not me... But it feels like picking on when he made me take down all my personal stuff from my desk (one photo of my family, my uni timetable) and then made me move desks to 'shake things up a bit' and put me with what used to be his team (they combined the teams). I asked (told) to be put back on my old desk today because being on that desk aggravated my back pretty badly, we shall see how things progress...

5-a-day freggies faltered on this one today, had another banana left, but wasn't keen. Banana x3, spinach on my bagel 4/5 (no pics, you guys know what a banana looks like :P)

Plastic free Jul-August None of the big four 0/0.

I made sure to sit at my desk today and my back feels better for it (I'm also following up with work wellbeing about getting a standing desk option out on the floor). TL greeted me this morning with a request for a 'favour', namely doing the two months of overdue stats reporting that he let pile up since I taught him how to do it two months ago (why yes that does mean he hasn't done any by himself). He asked me to email it to him so he could add the bits from his team before sending it to the manager. I sent it to him but ccd the manager in so he knows that I did 90% of it and TL tacked on a bit at the end. I hate drama, but I'm not going to get walked on trying to avoid it either...
