I'm going to keep the legend thing going until I am one. Just so you know. And then I'll be The Legend of Hellda. And that will be cool...but I suspect never enough. In here I'll keep a log of my training; lifting, derby, gym or otherwise and probably some general day to day musings. I'm not an avid food log keeper because of a long history of eating disorders but I guess there will be some mention of food etc in here too. Oh, and self care stuff, because that's important! Anyway...today was a rest day, I have killer DOMS after the training session with Special Sundae yesterday, I've felt grotty all day and it was my nephew's birthday party. Tomorrow is Sunday. On Sunday's we skate :D

This is from yesterdays session:

So this morning I was awake before the children because D was away playing football, got up and did some DDP yoga - just a wee 10 minute wake up routine, my muscles were still sore so I felt like I needed something to loosen them off. It worked. I also mowed half my back garden before the lawnmower cut out. I nearly never went to derby training today though, by the time this afternoon came I was stressed out and wound up, plus, my mother is my babysitter on a Sunday and she drives me absolutely bonkers. Anyway, I went, and I'm glad I did. Did some more work on my plow stops, jumped, worked on my transitions, skated backwards a little bit (unintentionally), did some toestop work (must change my toestops) and then to top it off, managed 20 laps of the track in 5 minutes, which is a new PB! I would have got 21 but I got cramp and had to slow things down. BUT, yeay for 20 laps!! Tomorrow I'm in uni for a bit to say hello to the newbies so I plan to make use of the gym there as I can guarantee I'll have it to myself!

Just back from the gym. Lifted heavy things. Didn't do cardio.

Squats: 5 x 5 @ 20kg

Deadlifts: (completely forgot to take the weight of the bar into account to begin with so didn't do a warm up :/ ) 5x 5@ 40kg

1 x 3@ 50kg

Bench: 5x5 @ 20kg. Too tired to do more weight tonight.

Tomorrow is Wednesday, on Wednesdays we skate! :D I love skating. You'll learn this quickly.

*sheepish wave*

Umm yeah...so I disappeared for a while there. Sorry about that. I went back to uni at the start of September, then I went on placement for a month, which was physically, and mentally, exhausting. Then I went back to uni and got bogged down with uni work and life has been hectic and blah and *insert other excuses here* meaning I've neglected the real and virtual world for a long time and yeah. Sorry. So I'm back. I've still been training. My PR in squats is now 40kg, deadlift 60kg, bench is still stuck at 30kg but I think that is partly fear of bar hitting face through lack of spotter than anything and my fellow roller derby barbell club members are trying their best to reassure me that my ratios are in proportion so to just keep at it. So I will. I'm also now an official member of my derby team - I've got my name on tops which is very, very exciting!! I've got exams coming up in uni which I'm mega stressed about so I may disappear again, but I'll try my very best not to!! Hope everyone is well!

So I disappeared again. I got sick. Had exams. Currently in the process of suing my landlord. The life of Hellda is very stressful at the moment.

Yeah, the sickness sucked. Long story short, I caught the flu. But it was severe, consuming, sudden onset flu. I was fine at 10am on the Friday, I was hospitalised less than 12 hours later. It has taken me a long time to recover. But I'm almost back to full strength. I say almost, all strength I had was gone so I've had to start at the very beginning again. I'm currently following the Stronglifts 5x5 app, which I'm loving, and I've joined a group of roller derby players in a bid to exercise every day in one form or another. I'm currently on day 9 and about to do some yoga. So, that's life in a nutshell!

3 hours of derby training today. 2hrs 43 of that on skates (I needed a pee and more water and it takes forever to de-kit and then re-kit). I finally overcame a derby fear today and managed laps using only crossovers - at one point I couldn't do a single crossover and now I'm doing laps of them! I'm so, so pleased and feeling really good about how training went today. Self care tonight after my girls are in bed - a long, hot shower, face mask, then ignoring my phone and watching some TV. I may even paint my toenails. It's the simple things ;)

I should have listened to my body. But I didn't and here's what happened. I couldn't shift the f*cking weights. So annoyed with myself.

Squats:

2 x5@20kg

1 x5@30kg

5 x5@40kg

Bench:

2 x5@20kg

1 x5@30kg

1 x4@30kg

1 x5@30kg

1 x4@30kg

1 x2@30kg

Rows:

1 x2@40kg

1 x2@40kg

Abandoned.

I'm putting everything in here, victories and failures. I don't want it to look all rosy and great. There's gonna be bad days along the way and I get that. Progress isn't always linear. And that's cool. Lesson here: listen to your body. If it tells you to take it easy, do so!

I am knackered. 3 hours of training today. Feeling like I've really made some progress now, skills seem to be clicking into place quite nicely now and my speed is getting up, my skating style is getting tidier and my legs are waaay stronger. I couldn't be budged today :D the downside of stronger legs though? My knee pads are too small now!!

Whoops. Catch up required. Lifted some stuff. Did some walking etc etc. Finally got my bench back up at 5x 5@30kg wooo!! Abandoned a  session the other day because I hadn't eaten enough. I'm still trying to retrain my brain to think that I'm not fat if I eat more than 1200 calories a day. Not that eating 1200 calories a day was helping me lose weight anyway. I need to figure out my sweet spot where I'm eating enough to fuel my training but also able to lose weight at the same time. I'm a bit stuck :/

I'm also struggling with cramp during my derby sessions, it's just one muscle but it's holding my laps up and it's driving me nuts.

Anyway. It's Sunday skate day, and skills assessment day! Wish me luck...

I didn't go to the gym last night. My head wasn't in the game and I would have injured myself. Managed to get an afternoon session in today though.

Squats:

2 x5@20kg

1 x5@35kg

5 x5@47.5kg

Overhead presses:

5 x5@20kg

I deloaded these because I was struggling so badly - now the program wants me to go up in kilo increments and my gym doesn't have any plates smaller than 1.25kg. Hmm.

Squats:

1 x5@60kg.

Feeling really good about today's workout. Then I took a gym selfie and my belly is hanging over my leggings. Ugh. Regardless, the workout went well!

On a related note, I feel like my body hates me a bit at the moment. It seems that no matter what I do, the weight refuses to budget.  If I drop any more calories then I feel like I won't have the strength to lift. I don't even know if undereating is a thing? Am I eating too little to build muscle and is that why I'm not losing weight? I meticulously log everything I eat and I'm coming in at a deficit every day- I'm not eating back my exercise calories either. I don't get it.
