Challenge 15: Just KISS

This time I'm going to embrace KISS (Keep It Simple, Stupid)

After looking at my epic quest for this year, and my previous challenges I realized something: I've been trying to do a lot of complicated things, in an already busy life with two small kids and a business I run from home. It's time to make things a little easier for myself. 
I've learned a lot and implemented a lot of good habits in the past challenges. Now I need to trust myself to just keep at it. I know what good food is, and I know when to stop eating. I know what kinds of exercise I love and what my limits are. I know now I love learning new things and I discovered the Bullet Journal to relieve stress and make myself more productive. All these things will be part of my life now, I don't need to overthink it, I don't need excessive challenge goals. I just need to keep it simple and do my own thing.

 

I will punish myself for underachieving. Sarah Barr created the idiot jar, an idea that I gratefully copied from her. The money in this jar will go to my son's savings accounts.
And I will reward myself for overachieving. I've created a reward jar in which I'll collect points. These points will travel to other challenges if I don't deplete them.

 

My goals for this challenge

 

Food: Just Log

I'm going to log my food in my bullet journal. We did this during one of the doodlie pvp's, and I really liked it.
It makes it perfectly clear what I put into my body. And if I don't want to log it and show it to the world/you nerds I probably shouldn't be eating it :P

 

I have to pay €2,50 to the idiot jar for every day I don't post my food log here.
Bonus: I'll get 1 point in the reward jar for every day I ate only clean food (replaced, see below)

 

Update 17-08: After a lot of think I came to the conclusion that I need a simple, basic meal plan. So here it is:

 

 

Breakfast

(green) smoothie

OR (soy) yogurt with fruit

OR just fruit

Snack (ONLY if I had a morning workout)

fruit

OR yogurt with [fruitspread or honey]

Lunch

Bread (homemade or wholewheat bought) with sugar free topping

OR a salad

OR soup

OR leftovers from dinner

Snack (Only if hungry)

a few nuts

OR a protein bar

OR a protein shake

OR soy yogurt with [fruitspread or honey]

Dinner

approx. 100 grams of meat

AND 200 grams of veg

AND a 200 gram carb source like white potatoes, wholewheat pasta, rice etc.

Snack: (ONLY if I had a work out after dinner)

a few nuts

OR a protein bar

OR a protein shake

OR soy yogurt with fruitspread or honey

OR popcorn

 

 

I'll get 1 point in the reward jar for every day I follow this meal plan

I'm going to follow this swimming program and continue to go to zumba
The goal is to do at least 3 training sessions a week. Ideally this will be 2 zumba classes and one swimming workout.

But it can be subbed for other stuff if necessary like a darebee workout, walking or biking, or any class at the gym.
I get a pass when I'm sick.

Bonus: I'll get 1 point in the reward jar for every extra training session I did
 
Life: Just learn

Both my boys will be in school starting the second week (week 1) of my challenge. And since they'll be learning new stuff, it seems only fair that I should do the same :)
I will take 20 minutes each day to learn something. 
This can be: 
- Learning Spanish on dualingo
- Practicing playing guitar
- Practicing playing recorder
Goal: learn something for 20 minutes a day on every day both boys are at school (4 days a week)

Bonus: I'll get 1 point in the reward jar for every extra learning session I accomplished

 

Pretty spreadsheet

 

For the reward jar:

  • 10 points: I'll get a swimming cap to keep my hair pretty
  • 15 points: Take a bubble bath
  • 15 points: Take an hour in the middle of the day and do absolutely nothing productive.
  • 30 points: Book a massage

Not the best start of a challenge, but I'll take it. 

The cookies me and A made were delicious. Although it was really hard for him not to eat all the cookie dough (and who am I kidding, it was hard for me too ;) )

 

No swimming today. Remember that ear infection I had 2 weeks ago? Well, that is gone. Now my other ear is infected. So no swimming until my ear has healed.

Breakfast: Green smoothie

Snack: chocolate muffin with vitamin water

Lunch: two buns, one with meat and one with cheese

Snack: Magnum caramel 

Dinner: Lots of different yummy stuff at a wok restaurant

 

We went to the zoo today. It was a beautiful day and we had lots of fun :D

It is a 17 km bike ride (one way), including a big hill called the 'grebbeberg', so I got my workout in. Food was far from clean, but I enjoyed it, and I don't feel like I've eaten too much.

Still! :D We hiked up a mountain on vacation, or at least, I called it a mountain (it's higher than anything we have around here) and the locals were all like "what? This is just a little hill"

Today I took my rest. I didn't do much besides the bare necessity's. A got new ear tubes this morning, all went really well and he is hearing a lot better now :) My husband went with him (which I didn't mind, last time I went with him and I got really upset. Which is crazy, because it's such a minor procedure.). During the morning I had to keep my hands busy so I made an other bread and did housekeeping stuff. 

 

I ate clean, so one point in the reward jar! But even though I did eat clean I got the feeling I ate too much. So after a lot of thinking about it I made a meal plan for myself. The theory is that if I stick to that I won't overeat. This is what I came up with:

As you can tell I wasn't fully awake yet when I started recording my food this morning. "Ontbijt" = "Breakfast" (snack and lunch are the same in Dutch, so now I can pretend I was awake when I recorded them :P )

 

I managed to keep to my eating plan. I had a few difficult moments where I really craved chocolate (shark week is just a few days away and I always crave chocolate in those days before), but since there was no chocolate in the house I managed to stay on track.

I went to zumba this morning, and it was a lot of fun :) My body feels a lot less stiff now and I got nice and sweaty. The teacher had a lot of new routines and I liked them a lot :D
