Alexandrite Sleeps Through the Static

Oh Jack Johnson, you are my background music to all my old college memories. There through it all.

Music this challenge is going to be a big thing for me because I need to get more sleep, and my old sleep training habits involve music. Then again, lay me down with a sleeping baby on my chest and I will be out in no time - baby powers are real! And my exhaustion levels are real.

As suggested by Lightning, my challenge this round involves sleep as the biggest reward/goal. My tank is running crirically low and has rippled through mood, perspective, and attitude, which means I haven't been all that pleasant to be around lately.

-Nap every day, no excuses.

-Do one physical fitness item to encourage better sleep: yoga, walking, mini challenge, or other workout

-Eat whole meals with balanced food (no junk that gives me artificial energy)

-Take your vitamin, find a better whole one (my B12 levels and possibly other nutrients are off, as seen by my fingernail health).

Think thats good for now. Will continue to track and use Habitica, but I still love NF forums for the Journaling/story aspect of challenges. And fellow NF Assassin comraderie!

Totally checking in on my birthday!!

Daily naps have been alright... even if it has been 5 minutes to powernap between my son yelling at me that he has to use the potty or my daughter getting a pretend hurt (hurt feelings) and crying for me or the baby teething on everything and his preferred choice is mommy. Driving long distances has helped, since I can get everyone napping and nap myself. If only my daughter would stop yelling for me in her sleep every 5 minutes....

Food has been going well. I have had lots of cake but it has always been after good meals. I'm on a rice kick right now, the koshihikari rice that I bought for our exchange student M is sooooooo good I must eat it all the time. Though I offended her Japanese senses with adding pineapple to some at one point (my go to favorite in college).

I have the old gummy vitamins from before that have higher levels of B12, so I have been taking those.

I have tried taking a walk every day. Or something. Hasn't always happened. We drove a lot, so I think that makes me cranky. Heck, screaming, fighting kids at any duration make me cranky and moody. I have never been more aware of how close in age my older two are until now (22 months).

So! I'm going shopping with the baby and M, which isnt exactly what I wanted but Dr. Focker wants to take kids to the park and I dont think he wants the baby and M too, haha. Plus M likes to be with me rather than with the little kids, so walking around thrift shops sound more fun to her.

Off we go! Im holding out for the weekend when my sister comes to really enjoy a birthday celebration. Today is mainly just laundry, chores, and the usual. I love my family so I will enjoy it no matter what. (*says that last line over and over, to make sure it isn't forgotten in the chaos*)

Happy Birthday! I hope one of the gifts you received was a nap! ;)

I'm following along in between the chaos. If you can, take a few naps for me so that you can sleep longer than 5 minutes.

My teens are 18 months apart and I remember the younger stages when I felt like I had twins. Hang in there. I'm sure you've heard this before, but you are totally going to miss all the commotion and chaos as your littles turn to mediums and then bigs.

So it's been a while, I know. But the epic family road trip is going well, overall, and we are now on the long road home. So much has happened and we have had a great time. I have been able to take some semblance of nap or doze in the truck each day. Honestly yesterday was the first overall less-than-stellar day Dr. Focker and I had together due to poor communication.

Thanks for all the birthday wishes! It was very fun to play at the beach! I will update more later.

We made it home on Sunday, had to spend an extra day in a nearby town because we just couldn't make the push home on Sat. That's fine. Got the trailer all taken care of and slowly are emptying it. Got settled back into house and overcame "arrival hangover" so now we are all ready for the most part for school today, first day for everyone!

Now for some news (there is no good or bad, haha): I made the choice before this trip to have two dental fillings done that needed taken care of before. That went well. During my visit I pressured the staff into doing an xray at a better angle on a tooth that has been hurting me since I was pregnant. They found I did indeed have a cavity, right where the only crown I have, next to it, pushes against it. It is a difficult spot to treat which meant more in depth work and it wasnt hurting me at the time so I asked to wait until I came back from my trip. What's a few weeks? Ah but they were important. The tooth immediately started hurting after we left on our trip, got progressively worse, and now I have been taking tylenol for the past 5 days to survive so I can sleep. I hardly EVER take pain meds so that is saying something. It is most likely infected now and I will have to take antibiotics and pretty sure it will be at least a root canal at this point. Praying fiercely that I won't lose the tooth completely... and it is another thing that will financially burden us, even with dental insurance. So I am considering submitting it as a need to Samaritan. But they are still working through the maternity need and I don't want to take away from that. =/

Anyway, Tuesday will be a big day. M is very nervous about our high school experience. I am praying for her wellbeing and friendships. She reads a lot of manga/comics on her phone and stays in touch with friends from home so I know she is missing it all.

As far as the challenge I begged for a nap yesterday and slept over two hours. Dr. Focker took pity on me and let me sleep that long. It was absolute bliss and took me forever to wake up because I could have gone back to sleep with Freibird for sure. I am hoping that school for two hours will be sufficient enough to wear the kids down so they take naps and I can sleep! Little O has finally refused nap vehemently and stays awake even after laying in bed for an hour so those hopes aren't too high, lol.

The tooth ended up being a spot of decalcification to the dentin, but not a cavity, yay! Hurt worse than a cavity actually... fixed it right up though.

First week of school was exhausting. I made a herculean effort for naps most days. It ended up being me and the baby sleeping, maybe E falling asleep, and O only fell asleep once out of the four days. But the day he did, I had been so tired from other stuff like baby teething and E crying at night that I had taken a morning nap with Freibird, so I got two naps that day! Woot!

In other news: I am taking on organization, chores, lawn care, and anything else with a vengeance. I'm 5 months postpartum and feel like I need to get my act together. School has helped us set a great schedule. I just can't do anything mid-afternoon anymore away from home. Thats okay. =)

Quality of sleep hasn't been all that great due to weird dreams and recurring ones. I have certain recurring dreams that occur every few years or so, sometimes longer. The one I had last week I hadn't "seen" since I was in high school, so I think dealing with all of M's high school stuff must be bringing subconscious things up for me. Same thing with the one I had last night.

Dr. Focker is interested in more children. I tell him to ask me again in five years. I am SO not a fan of the 3-5 age range right now. But I love the age Freibird is at, 6mo-1.5 is a lot of fun. Exhausting, but endorphins are extremely high when an adorable baby is doing a suckerfish on your face to imitate kisses.

Thanks for checking in. I have been horribly gone from supporting others this go around as all the new changes in schedule and life take place.

Summary: I was able to get more sleep as I made it a priority! Because I used something like sleep as my main goal, I had to really make a schedule and stick to habit making. It ended up helping me better manage my time! Which will help me in the next challenge. =)

I have already seen benefits like better bed times, more focused get-stuff-done times, and extra 20 min here and there that I now see as productive instead of a waste. I do know I have been trying to cope lately by playing some 3DS and Stardew Valley again, but it hasn't hurt my to-dos and responsibilities like it did in the past because of better time management.

On the horizon:

- Getting back to regular workout/yoga habits

- Possibility that I will be tutoring M in English because she is required to have an English tutor and there are none here in Podunk-ville.

- Starting my own web design business and llc!

- My hands are itching to work on something, and website work stuff does not help satisfy. Crochet projects call to me, and it is early enough to start making things for Christmas.

- Yard conquering commencing. I have begun tackling the horrible weeds and overgrowth in all the flower beds and yard. The garden is being harvested and we will burn the mofo and all its weeds when the burn ban is lifted. Our front yard is already looking nice! Kill those wasp nests! Gutters must be cleaned, but how...
