Artemis Fernweh tries to find time

Recommended Posts

Welp, these past two months I have not had any idea as to what day it was. My perception of time was "Do I work today? I work today. I don't work today. I go in early for work today." Despite knowing what the next day was I wouldn't have been able to tell you what that day actually was. I'm hoping that once school starts and my work hours decrease I'll have a better handle on what day it is. I'm actually really looking forward to this coming semester. Hopefully it'll be my best yet. I'm also excited because it'll be the last of my undergrad classes!

Goal 1: Running - I want to get back to running. I don't have the running schedule completely set up right now but hopefully I'll have the first week's schedule up on the 21st.

Goal 2: Handstands - This has been a goal of mine for quite some time and I want to actually do a free-standing handstand. During this challenge my goal is to do handstand practice six days a week. That's a possibility of 24 total points.

Goal 3: Study - I will study, do homework, or watch a lecture at least five days a week. That gives me a total of 20 points.

Goal 4: Edit - I will edit ten pages of my book at least five days a week. That gives me a total of 20 points.

Rules: If I do above what is required in a week then that extra can count towards a missed day in a different week. Not having to do any of these every day of the week gives me a little leeway in case of time issues and/or brain getting in the way issues. I am also not giving myself specific times that I have to be doing these because I don't work well when I have to do something for a set amount of time. It tends to make me very frustrated.

I really couldn't figure out a theme that went well with these goals so I decided themeless this go 'round. :)

During week zero I had planned on continuing my sprints from the last challenge. However, I did something to my toe, probably jammed it, and now it hurts a bit to even wear socks. My sprints won't be happening for the rest of the week in order to give my toe a bit of a break. But I will be doing my running starting in week 1.

Ouch. Jammed toes are surprisingly painful.

I feel for you! Sometimes life can get into a bit of a blur based around one thing (usually work) and its hard to keep up with yourself. I wish you all the best for making time to accomplish your goals!

Week 1 Day 1 Summary:

Alright, I scared a guy like a bat outta hell on my run. I was approaching a corner and there were some trees to the side of me so that  if someone else were approaching the corner perpendicular to me they wouldn't be able to see me. Well, I kept seeing flashes of red through the branches and knew that there was a guy walking towards it. I figured that we would reach the corner about the same time. At this point in my run I was going all out; it had to have been one of my fastest sprints yet. We reached the corner and I just came bolting out from behind the trees and leaped off the curb not three feet in front of him. Later I was walking to cool down and a guy was walking in the opposite direction to me. He made a mention of how I wasn't running at that time. At first I was confused and told him I had already run in the opposite direction. That's when he said, "I know. I saw you." It took me a couple of seconds before I realized it was him. On a different note I thought I was my favorite college math teacher out jogging. By the time I thought to shout out and ask if it was him he was already gone.

Running: Done and done. A very successful run I believe.

Handstands: I did them against the wall. It has been a while since I've done them so they felt a bit weird.

Study: I watched a short little five minute lecture for one of my classes to hopefully get me a quick head start before classes start later this week.

Edit: Ten pages were edited. Right now I have finished 70 out of 174 pages.

So far so good. This was a great first day.

Week 1 Day 5 Summary: Thursday

Running: Done, but it really really sucked.

Handstands: Yes, I actually did one. Got up easily and stayed up as long as I could.

Study: Yep, finished the chapter and checked out the projects

Editing: Yep, ten pages done. I have decided that I'm going to change the plot up pretty big. The entire last third of the story is going to have to be rewritten. The villain is changing. The person that I currently have as the bad guy will be there and will have a the same roll up until the last third when I introduce the person who is going to be that antagonist for the remainder of the story. That's going to be quite a bit to change, but I think it's for the better.

Wow, I am really bad at updating. I'm just going to post a week 1 summary here and then a summary on week 2 so far.

Week 1:

Running - 3/3 (one of these wasn't an actual run but I had tried and that was the end result so I'm counting it)

Handstands - 6/6

Study - 6/5

Edit - 7/5

So week 1 went pretty well.

Week 2:

Running - 2/3 The plan is to do my third one tomorrow.

Handstands - 4/6 I haven't done it two days this week. And it was simply because I completely forgot that I was supposed to do them. But they are coming along much better.

Study - 4/5

Edit - 4/5 This one is interesting. Yesterday I was sitting at the kitchen table editing and watching TV at the same time. When I edit I use a red pen. At one point I looked down and it was gone. I was freaking out because I couldn't find it. I didn't find it until today. This morning I was sitting at the table and I hit the underside of it with my hand and the pen clattered to the floor. Apparently I had, unknowingly, clipped the pen to the underside of the table.

I learned something this morning, something that even a child should know. Going without eating for 19 hours before running is not a good idea. I hadn't eaten since 12:30 yesterday for lunch and I went for a run this morning before breakfast. It was very noticeable in how sluggish and tired I felt.

Body needs fuel.  My problem is giving it too much fuel.

I think I need to eat more but I'm not really sure how exactly.

I eat just a little extra for the meal or snack before runs - a larabar, a banana (with or without nut butter), or trailmix. You could start by adding something small like that and seeing whether that helps your run. Then if you still need to add more, add more food to the meal before the run. So for example, I usually run at lunch time, so for me I'd eat a bigger breakfast that day.
