Really neat Anytime Fitness in Ft Myer's FL this morning.  Old school weights, well maintained, new racks, lots of "mature" men lifting.  The manager told me that one of them had brought in his own wrenches to tighten the dumbbells (til she bought him a set).  I can't imagine someone not putting a weight back.

It reminded me of the story of the old bull elephants and their effect on juveniles  http://thesestonewalls.com/gordon-macrae/in-the-absence-of-fathers-a-story-of-elephants-and-men/

Very interested in your keto adventures. I'm slightly worried that my partner isn't interested in exercise of any kind, and eats a lot of refined sugar. I'm trying not to be pushy, but I worry, quietly. But the other day, he mentioned keto, and how he was maybe interested in trying it because he read that it may have benefits for the brain. I said if he wanted to do that, I'd do it with him, and cook keto meals etc. to make it easier. He's not sure what he could have for lunch, though. I know you travel a lot for work, do you have any tips for easy portable lunches, or for ordering when eating out on the road? (I know there are recipe sites and all that, but I'd be interested to hear what worked for you personally.)

It turned out to be a pretty easy transition for me.  Thinking back to my childhood, we ate a fairly ketoish diet growing up.

At restaurants, I get whatever meat I can that is easiest to get without toppings, or with removable toppings.  Bunless burgers, or some places with give you a lettuce wrap instead. Then add the greenest vegetable they have.  Broccoli, whatever salad sounds like it has the most spinach or non-iceburg lettuce.  Fast food I just order the burgers plain, with cheese and slurp them off the bun.  I've never been a big condiment guy, so that's not a struggle for me anyway.  Most gas stations have Nathans 100% beef hotdogs and cheese blocks/strips.

People ask about how hard it is.  It is sort of self limiting.  Once you've gone without bread and sweets for a couple weeks, then have some....you'll learn it is not a "treat".  Some people get pretty ill.  I just feel very yucky for 8 hours.  Then you think.  "That cookie was NOT worth ruining my day".  I work hard to avoid what I call "deliberate carbs" (buns, breads, fries, cookies, sweets, fruits) and let the rest fall where it may.

I used to reddit a lot more than I do now, r/keto was helpful as well at the time (although I only followed the diet for a few months). I'll recommend this one to my partner, thank you!

So shiny!

The dumbbells go up to 150#.  Unfortunately, I only had enough time to work up to 120# rows....I think I could get to sets of 5 at 130# at least.

Finished the week with a 19,770# session of deadlifts and benching.

For the whole week, I got in 5 workouts and about 125,000 pounds lifted.  I'll take that.

Taking a rest day from the gym.  I can feel that 125,000#....  Also I have been a poor example as a Christian of taking a day of rest (the 5th commandment).

In other news.  The biopsy on my prostate came back as definitively cancerous.  We're going to repeat the HIFU treatment towards the end of October.  We had the biopsy done to "prove" the cancer so I will have an easier time with the insurance and any followup treatment.

We are in the process of selling the 5th wheel RV that we lived in for 3 years between 2010 and 2015.  A pair of traveling ICU nurses are taking it off our hands.  This will reduce our monthly commitments by over $600 which will be welcomed.  On top of that the Lord blessed with the largest commission check I've ever gotten.  I have a base salary, then "Targetted Incentive Compensation" or TIC based on how well the sales reps meet their numbers.  This gets paid quarterly.  First quarter was over 1/2 of my yearly TIC.  This was over 75% of the yearly TIC by itself.  Half way through the year, I've been blessed with about 138% of my TIC.  There are certain targets we have to hit, then the % rates go up (it's called accelerators).  We should get those this quarter.

In not so happy news, Christartist has decided to retire Gabriel, her service dog.  While we were in Ohio in the spring, he totally lost his hearing.  Apparently a lot of what he did was based on his hearing as he has become extremely anxious when around Christi.  Because he couldn't act as a service dog, we've left him with a dog sitter who lives on a small farm with a bunch of dogs, goats, chickens, etc.  Gabe is SOOO much more relaxed there.  We have to force him to get in the car to come home.  Saturday, Christi did the 'right' thing for Gabriel and gave him to Dana.  Not a happy day at all.

All of that to say, Christi is under a lot of stress.  Sick husband, selling one of our homes and giving up her service dog.  Oh, and we are leaving on a 2 week business trip on Monday (another reason for giving up Gabriel...so she can travel with me w/o paying Dana $300 a week to watch Gabe).  On the travel front, I've earned Southwest's "Companion Pass" status.  This means Christi travels with me for free til 12/31/2017.

Monday we go to Miami

Tuesday fly to Atlanta for a 2 day business meeting

Thursday fly to Columbus.  I speak at the Ohio LinuxFest on Saturday.  Christi will be visiting 1 set of grandkids

Monday we drive to Youngstown, OH.  Christi visits the other grandkids, while I go to Boston, Chicago, Tampa and back.

Friday we fly back to Atlanta for the weekend so I can compete at the USAPL Raw Nationals

Monday we fly back to Orlando and then I leave again on another trip.

That's how everyone preps for a powerlifting meet, right?

In keto news, I weighed 251# last night, down from a high of 269# on Aug 18 when I started.  Definitely not worried about cutting to get under 120kg this time!  Thanks to Christi, I've eaten more cabbage this week then I ever have.  She was trying out a "Keto on $25 a week" menu based around stuff you can get at the discount grocery store, Aldi's.  It was pretty good.  We had to supplement with some outside stuff, but we probably only spent $40 and ate much better than we have been.

Bummer about the prostate - good that the insurance should work out, though.

Hugs to Chrisartist on retiring Gabe.  Sounds like traveling together will be good - so...silver lining...

Outstanding that she gets to take advantage of the free fare!

What is your lifting plan going into nationals?  (Sorry if you said already).

Lift as much as I can as often as I can, except for the day before...maybe 2 days before.

My schedule is so wild, there's no sense in even trying to do a "plan"....

Did my first major home repair today.   Lightening took out our Rainbird controller, so I replaced it. Actually just killed the power supply, not the computer..but I bought the whole thing...  Simple repair in end.  Biggest issue was the builders used a nail gun to attach the box to the stucco instead of screws.  Had to pry it off and patch the mess.

Total today was 23,631#.  Only about 4 hours of sleep last night.  Woke up at 4 and couldn't go back to sleep.  Definitely felt it on the squats.  That might have been affected by the ladder climbing I did over the weekend as well.  Was working on our 5th wheel RV prepping it for sale.
