the-fires-of-heaven-art-by-dan-dos-santo

With his coming are the dread fires born again. The hills burn, and the land turns sere. The tides of men run out, and the hours dwindle. The wall is pierced, and the veil of parting raised. Storms rumble beyond the horizon, and the fires of heaven purge the earth. There is no salvation without destruction, no hope this side of death.

It's such a happy story. Did I mention that? Just, this amazing, joyous thing. You'll want to dance after you read this.

Anyway, things are not getting any easier for our heroes. Rand, having survived and been marked by his time in the Wastes returns to the west with an unstoppable army at his back. He sees his enemies, and he must stand against them.

Let's get our game faces on.

"Do you finally begin to trust me?"

"I trust you like a brother. Until the day you betray me. You have a parole for what you have done, in return for your teaching, and a better bargain than you deserve, but the day you turn against me, I will tear it up and bury it with you."

Rand is the catch-all for my training this time around. I am presently training with a mind toward building muscle, to take advantage of eating at maintenance and giving my body a break. I don't know if that'll last to the end of the challenge - if I find that I've put on too much bad weight to come with the good, I'll switch back to cutting, and my training will switch to reflect that. But as I mentioned to the Giant who has stopped in to see me, training to take advantage of the amount of food I'm eating now is a lot of fun. :D

Beyond that, though, this challenge is going to be mostly about cementing myself around the new schedule and the commitments I have and figuring out just what I can get away with now. Holding your ground is not the same as going backwards.

Everything always changes. The best plan lasts until the first arrow leaves the bow.

If that sounds kind of like Napoleon or something, well, that's kind of on purpose. Mat accidentally'd his way into taking a level in badass last book. He survived something way back in book 1/2, and even though he was healed in 3, it left him with some holes in his memory that he was never okay with. He wanted those holes filled up. He was not specific with the right people as to how that would happen.

Mat has a funny way of finding himself in the most chaotic places and situations. It honestly reminds me very much of my job. I want to do better at it, and I have a very concrete way of figuring out how to do that. I want to focus on working cases in the following order - priority cases, opening the new cases, developing the old cases.

This is a set of numbers that's probably going to change as time goes by, because it's kind of chaotic. I will set a baseline of working the three priority cases I have now and completing opening procedures on the three cases that I will be assigned that follow, for a total of at least 6 cases per day. Beyond that, I'd like to touch on at least the five oldest cases in my queue, for a total of 11 cases per day. This may or may not be a realistic thing - it can be a lot to work on any given case, given what evidence has come in, what you have to do to reach claimants, to say nothing of the other behind-the-scenes stuff.

Also, given the rather personal nature of these things, I'm afraid I'm going to have to be kind of vague in terms of talking about it. I won't be able to give you much more beyond what I've done. It's all I have to give, guys; sorry for that.

If you must drown or ride a lionfish, you ride and hope for the best.

Siuan Sanche is a hard woman who's made a lot of hard choices to be who she is and where she was. The former Amyrlin has been deposed, and is forced to make of her life what she can.

I'm kind of torn between making a goal of not being late to anything and making a goal of getting through Deskbound. The latter wins out in the end for me because being a professional about things just seems like a very poor goal to think about. Of course I'm going to be on time for things - I have a grown-up job now. Being late is becoming foreign to me. But what is becoming familiar is a chair. That is unavoidable at this time. Maybe, eventually, I can do a standing desk, but at this stage it doesn't make much sense to ruffle feathers. So, I will make do with what I have. Get through Deskbound, run assessments, apply.

"I mean to deal with the world as I find the world, for as long as I can."

Why, yes, that is Moiraine again. And yes, those are portentious colors for a portrait, as if something terrible is about to happen to her.

You shouldn't read anything into that.

She is still seeking after stories, still writing, even as the world marches toward Tarmon Gaidon. She's a believer in a cause, marching toward something that she can barely see. Rand by this point sees her as a manipulator, someone trying to pull his strings for the White Tower, and this is true. But though she's sacrificed much, she never does so with thought to herself and what she might have wanted. She's a hard character to like, but she's just as hard to dislike when you see who she is and what she does. And why. And the things that she dares to do as a result of her sense of purpose and what she's trying to do... she's really incredible.

Anyway, the reading and writing goal goes here.

Time to take the week and see how it plays. Cool. Let's go.

Going to do a much better job of keeping up this time around!  (I think.  >.>)    I totally grok the schedule woes too.  It's why I always complain that I want shadow clones like Naruto.   It also is how I developed my teeter totter of floon.   (Floon is the creative energy, or desire to focus on a particular thing, with a lot of excitement and motivation.)  It just keeps turning, teetering, and shifting as I go through life because I can't really do ALL the things ALL the time.   Right now, my teeter totter has me back on MMO-Roleplaying, instead of watching anime.  Lately, I've picked up my XBONE controller and finished Ori, and am working through AC:Syndicate.   When that finishes, it may shift back to anime- or I will develop more time to the crafts I want to pick up.

It's tough!    One thing that has been my saving grace through this, and I dunno if this will be an option for you, is working out on my lunch break.    We get an hour, and in the past 3 years, my manager (a cross-fit guy) also wanted to optimize his time because he has two kids under 8 at home, decided he and I would build a small workout box in our warehouse.    So I have about 45 minutes to actually work out once I figure in changing clothes, etc.   It's turned my strength training into a combo of strength +HIIT because I really don't sit for 1-2m between sets.  It's almost always a circuit and I get my heart rate up pretty well.     When I work out with my slower-going strength training guy friend, he has to sit down or pass out about halfway through because I'm so conditioned for this rapid-fire circuit lol!    If there's a way for you to sneak in a workout at your lunch break (and I just eat at my desk afterward- but you could do a protein shake/thing/whatever it is the bros are keen on these days) that could go a long way in helping you arrange your schedule.    I tried the early morning workouts.  My body is just not set up for them.   And I too have gaming/hockey/etc that goes late into the night.

You'll get there Kishi!

And dammit.   I am coming after you for some way for YOU AND I to roleplay together.   Enough of this! :D

Just the two I've mentioned.  *blush*   Got the system for Christmas last year, and I am a big Assassins Creed fan.  Loving Syndicate so far.  (The fact you can play as a bad ass female assassin, that they drew to pleasing proportions, may have something to do with it.)    Ori and the Blindforest is a must play.  It's a platform, puzzle, beautiful-as-frak game!    Music and graphics are amazing and it's DL on the store.    I've tried Battlefront to appease my Star Wars craze -but... I am terrible at shooters.

My sister has AC:Syndicate on the PS4, and I'll admit that it's really fun, (I especially love walking towards someone mouthing off, then quickly stabbing them in the neck and keep walking as if nothing happened). I've never heard of Ori and the Blindforest, but the way you put it sounds very interesting. and I want to get Battlefront (also to appease my Star Wars craze) but I've only so much monies T_T

The floon is real. And I know it's something I grapple with too. I'm stuck between reading and watching anime these days, although now that I have a PC that can do like all the things, the gaming itch is coming back something fierce too. Ride the wave, I guess?

So far, so good. I've been having to get up early the past couple of days, because Sensei's car broke down and I've been giving he and his wife a lift to work the past couple of days. It's been a good excuse to learn how to get down to bed earlier, although I have to admit that it's a hard lesson to learn.

I left gaming when I meant to last night. Still didn't get down early, though. But that's my own fault.

I've been keeping up with my cases as much as I meant to. It turns out that I can't actually always hit 11 cases in a day - not because I don't have that many but because I'm up on what I can do to develop them and there's really not much else I can do. Which is a good problem.

I've been reading Deskbound and I already have takeaways from it. The biggest thing to take and apply right now is to get up for 2 minutes every half an hour and do... something. I did 10 squats in my cubicle, when I didn't have other things to do to be up and around about.

Writing's coming along. I think I've found as many characters as I was going to so far, so I'm switching over to following a prompt for a short story until I take my next class.

Training happened tonight on top of some sweet Turkish food. And now down to bed. 'night everyone!

Way back when, I set an alarm on my fitness tracker to alert me every time I go 30 minutes without activity, but I've fallen into the habit of ignoring it, because I can't think of things to do that are useful, you know?  I should maybe make a list.

My new Fitbit warns me ten minutes before the hour is up, if I've not tacked at least 250 steps that hour.    It's "new" now, so I hope it will last - but I run all my stuff around the office one thing at a time (because my office is REALLY small).     Adding in a few squats, or 25 jumping jacks could be awesome though.   This is a good tip Kishi!

Spoiler

I'm exercising, because I want to get my stamina and strength. I enjoy medieevil swordmanship,  Tai Chi, yoga, aikido and fire spinning. I'm also a roleplaying nerd and a book worm. Let's fight the procrastination dragon!

The S-Health app on my Galaxy watch does the same thing, but with no audio so it's easy to miss.

Way back when, I set an alarm on my fitness tracker to alert me every time I go 30 minutes without activity, but I've fallen into the habit of ignoring it, because I can't think of things to do that are useful, you know?  I should maybe make a list.

Or to change your frame of reference. Anything is more useful than just sitting.

It is a good tip, but don't let it overwhelm you. It sounds like you're working hard to combat the sitting as it is. Don't feel the pressure to add more unless you think it'd be fun to do.

Hey, socialising with your coworkers is important, too, so no judgement here.

(Damn forgot how to write colleagues)

Have a nice day.;)

True, true. I spend most of my free time with my book plugged into my ears so I can read and walk at the same time. I'm not the most social creature.

"If two women link, they do not double their strength - linking is not as simple as adding together the power of each - but if they are strong enough, they can match a man. Thirteen woman who can barely channel could overpower most men, linked. The thirteen weakest women in the tower could overpower you or any man, and barely breath hard. I came across a saying in Arad Doman. "The more women there are about, the softer a wise man steps." It would not be bad to remember it."

These words have served me well.

Not much to report today, training-wise. I've continued to find excuses to get up and move every half an hour or so. I made a slight tweak - my normal routine during lunch is to walk around the building. However, there's a tree just outside that has a branch perfect for practicing pull ups on. So I expanded the circuit to make sure that it was part of my rounds. It's not much, but it's better than nothing.

I went to karate/judo tonight and rocked the house. A lot of time spent on movement went really well. Sparring went well tonight - managed to hit a perfect tai otoshi and, in general, my judo was just a lot stronger tonight than it normally is. That was fun.

Not much else to report at this point, so I'm going to bed. 'night!

Your challenges always have such cool pictures.

My new job is more deskbound. I miss getting to lead hikes at work. I'm trying to make an effort to get up and move around, go out in the park ate least 15 minutes out of every couple of hours. I need to, the maintenance crew I supervise isn't the most self motivated group I've met. I thought about doing something like the angry birds workout or something, with a timer to remind me to do it.
