Twilight: Will you follow me into another world?

Recommended Posts

Last challenge I actually managed to improve my sleep! WOO. I definitely noticed a difference. I need to keep working on that. I also started back on stretching and some fitness stuff, and that feels really good. I want to keep that going, too. Same goals, keep on going.

This challenge I will:

  1. Get at least seven hours of sleep five nights per week
  2. Do something creative five times per week (ukulele, art, writing, photography, baking)
  3. Do something for my body five times per week (stretch, meditate, sledgehammer, hulahoop, walk home from the subway, get a massage, do my nails)

Daily tracking will be in my battle log.

Standard warning:  I'm queer, genderqueer, poly, and kinky. I keep this pretty SFW, and anything otherwise will be tagged as such and put under a cut. The photos I share here are SFW, but if you follow any links to my Instagram page, some are a little less so! Enjoy!

We're all mad here!

Yesterday I installed an app called The Fabulous, which helps to build habits slowly over 15 days. The first habit it's got me building is to drink water first thing in the morning. Okie dokie.

I've put the app on my phone's home screen so that I'm more likely to see it and remember about it. I also rearranged my icons so that Duolinguo, Yoga.com, and Curiosity are on the front page all in a line. I've got another ukulele workshop in my calendar, and kid #2 and I will attend with our ukes. Being cautious to not overload myself, but feeling good about these things.

I did desk pushups yesterday and more calf raises. I'm getting back into it! :D

Ok! I'm on day 3 of The Fabulous app, and have drunk water first thing in the morning three days in a row. It's now asking me to eat a healthy, high protein and low sugar breakfast. That's going to be a challenge. I eat a granola bar when I get to work. I don't like cold food. I don't have time in the morning to make eggs and toast. So. I'm going to see about finally making those egg cup things in a muffin tray. Because I've wanted to for a long time, and because granola bars get boring. I'd like to have other options.

HabitRPB (now Habitca) is going to take some getting used to. I've added "practice ukulele" to Habits, and added my three challenge goals to my dailies ... but my goals are to do these things 5/7 days per week, and I don't know how to do that in this app. I can set it to specific days of the week, but not 5/7 days, whatever days they happen to be. I'm ok with doing something good for my body and my mind 7/7 days per week, but there are some days I'm just not going to get seven hours of sleep, and I don't want to penalise myself for it. It's just an app, I guess. I won't worry about it too much. I'm going to add other things to my Habits (like "don't bite my nails" and "don't pick" and "put away my laundry right away") and ToDos (I've got a whole list of household goals on stickies on the kitchen wall). I'll figure it out.

Duolingo is back on the home page of my phone, and I'd like to practice Spanish or German at some point. My main hurdle is the pronunciation parts. I want to be able to do this on the subway or whatever, and can't be doing the talking out loud part there. The three inner self apps (Yoga.com, Heartfulness, Curiosity) are also on my home page, and I'd like to get to these at some point. I think all add all four of these to Habitca as Habits. That will help.

Oh! I fixed my GPS problems in Pokemon Go at nearly the same time that they introduced buddies. I've been walking with my dratini ever since, and so I finally have a more accurate measurement of the distance I've walked. It's not perfect because I don't have the app on all the time, but so far I've logged 30.8km. Neat :)

Dreary day here. Hello, autumn!

I was trying "Life RPG" for a bit to assist with habit building, but didn't like it that much.  Let me know how your app works out.

Will do! So far I'm not very far along the learning curve ... heh.

Great weekend!

I took it easy, listened to my body and my needs, and was gentle with myself. I've had an eggy breakfast 2/3 days so far, and I've drunk water first thing, as per The Fabulous. I've been docking myself points for nail biting in Habitca. I really need to do my nails (which will give me points) so that I stop biting. Went to a birthday party on Saturday that involved rope. Had fun, got points for yoga and body stuff. Sunday I went to a ukulele workshop with kid #2, and we did a bunch of walking with Pokemon Go. Hatched two eggs, including my first Sandshrew!

Went to bed too late last night, but am feeling better after that eggy breakfast and two cups of tea.

I need a haircut.

Lovely weekend.

I used to use Habitica a lot but now when I only have two mounts left I feel like I won't have as much incentive left. Except to get those last candies...

I did too -- I realized that I was trying to compulsively track habits in too many places and that it was stressing me out. I have a bad habit of that. Even though I love getting experience points.

Have not yet made my breakfast egg things, so cheated and got a breakfast sandwich from Starbucks again. It kept me pretty full until lunch time yesterday, and with the chili for lunch, I was good until dinner. That's the plan for today, too. I missed water first thing, didn't get enough sleep, and didn't stretch or do anything for my body yesterday.

Husband and girlfriend have been sick. GF thinks it may be strep throat. Ack.

Husband did a couple of days of background acting last week. He enjoyed it, and it's some extra income. A relief! Now he says stuff like "I'm waiting to hear from my agent" and it's hilarious/wonderful. :D

That big rope event is on Saturday. I'm not participating this year. Just wasn't feeling it. I'm going to a housewarming that will start with a Heathen ritual instead, but I'll check out the performances after the housewarming. Hopefully I'll catch one of my gf's performances.

Still doing the thing where if I miss bedtime, I don't even try to get to sleep early. Working on it.

Still taking it easy when it comes to socialising and going out. I want to do all the things, but I don't have to do all the things. I just want to.

I am missing something in that app apparently. Mounts? Candies? Wut?

I'm only tracking stuff I need help with because yeah, tracking everything would be ridiculous.

You still get to do a lot of fun things even if you can't do all of them. Don't let FOMO get ya. :)

re mounts and candies - let's just say it's something to look forward to as you level up. :D

I hurt my back on Tuesday night, so I stayed home on Wednesday to rest and stretch. I worked well, and I'm back in the office today.

The really cool thing about it was that I was able to isolate what I was feeling, so I could reverse engineer what stretches I would need to do to get relief. I could tell where the pain was specifically, so looked up anatomical info for back muscles, learned the name of the muscle, then looked up treatment.

I found this ridiculous/amazing/strangely creepy video that I just have to share with you guys. The anatomical overlay is really cool.

I'm sure it's because I haven't been standing/sitting evenly, and also it probably doesn't help that I'm carrying my kids around. They're getting gigantic.

The Fabulous wants me to start exercising first thing in the morning.

Not finding Habitca to be helping much, but it's still early. I'll give these apps until the end of the challenge to prove their usefulness to me.

Heathen ritual vs performance is definitely a toss up.

Things just got a bit easier - my gf is sick enough that she had to pull out of the show. :( So I have a lot less motivation to go. We'll see. I'll probably see a bit of it anyway, since I'll be outside.

FOMO is awful! I want to do all the things! Maybe once the kids are older I can do more. Hehe.

I'm level 2 now. Pokemon Go is more fun. ;)

Looks like everything is good over here.

Pretty good weekend!

I've been doing lots of walking. Dratini and I have walked a total of 70.5k together so far in Pokemon Go. I'm not doing well with Habitca or The Fabulous; the former only allows me to log things day-of, and I often forget. The latter is asking me to exercise in the morning, and I can't progress until I agree to do that. I don't want to do that. I'm not going to do that. So we're at an impasse.

Thursday at mom's group I weighed myself. I'm still 145lbs. :)

Friday I went to Moon Prism Pasties: a Sailor Moon burlesque tribute. It was really fun. There were themed drinks and cupcakes!

I've played ukulele a bunch this week! I brought it with me on Saturday to the housewarming, and tinkered a little during the witching hour when we were getting into shenanigans by candle light and glow sticks. We ate, drank, were merry, and warmed that house real good.

I played again on Sunday for my parents while they were visiting. October 2 is the anniversary of our older kid's coming to live with us from the foster home, and we celebrate it like a mini birthday. We went out for dinner, which was delicious!

So yeah. Lots of good soul stuff, lots of walking and even some stretching, and creation and creativity! My lats and pecs are really store, and have been for days, and I don't know why. OH WAIT. I did pullup negatives while I was at mom's group! That's it! Aha! My friend who was hosting it does circus stuff, so I was mucking about, of course. DUH.

This instagram thing makes photos really easy. :D

OCTOBER! It's like weirdo xmas! :D

Habitca was previously HabitHPG! I hope they're helpful. :)

How was the heathen ritual/housewarming/possible rope event?

It was a lot of fun. I haven't done anything spiritual or ritual since leaving the group I was a member of five years ago. I've been comfortably atheist, but I miss the community and the ritual. My friend whose house we were warming is a Heathen priestess, and I've talked to her about this dilemma. She said I was welcome, and that there's often atheists at the events she runs and attends. It was kind of scary to put myself in that environment again, but I'm glad I went. I made some new friends, too. All around, a great night.

I found a thing in The Fabulous that lets me count "even one minute of moving your body" as my exercise for the morning. Today, that was running for the bus. :P Maybe we can get along after all.

Autumn means it's darker in the mornings. And that means sunrises!

So far today (it's 9am) I've: started with water, moving my body, and eating a good breakfast (full points for The Fabulous), and done some desk pushups. Cool.

Last night my younger kid and I practiced ukulele. I'm learning the intro to Stairway to Heaven, and am also practicing songs like House of the Rising Sun, Stand by Me, and F.U.N. from Spongebob Squarepants. :D

Tonight a potential new partner is taking me shopping. Wish me luck!
