Dear God I love lifting at home.  I am okay if that makes me anti-social.

It's not you.  It's THEM.  That is my opinion, anyway.

Some things I find astonishing about the gym culture I am encountering:

So many people do not rack weights.  WTF?  DUDE!  When you are done, put them away!  It is not that hard!  I discussed that issue is one guy I know at the gym who is a high school strength coach.  He says he teaches his kids to rack their weights.  You forgot to rack your weights?  It's no big deal.  But everybody still has to do 100 push-ups.

I thought it was convenient to blame Millennials, but I do not think they are the problem.  Where I work, so many people CBF to replenish a pot of coffee when it gets emptied, but there is only one Millennial in the office and she is not the culprit.

So many people don't seem to know how to work in, either.  It's a simple couple of questions.  How many sets do you have left?  May I work in with you?  What are you trying to do?  Do you want to work in?  Heck my most recent work has been a bunch of singles where the weight just sits on a platform for a few minutes before I finally get around to lifting it.  There is a rack in front of the platform for whoever wants to do squats or overhead presses or even curls!  Nah.  I'll do something else.

Today's training (in my very, very wiggly power cage, also in pounds for the cuddly, lovable trolls out there):

Full disclosure - It's a lot of fun to unload that troll the kg line when the numbers look impressive enough in pounds.  But I think everybody already knows that.

Working out at home means never having to say "can I work in".  All you really need to do is find your best safety bar setting for bench and make sure your comfortable with your bail technique.  I'm lucky that my safety bars can be set high enough that I have plenty of room to roll it passed my face.

I may need to practice.  Safety first!

Also....I guess I will let the husband work in.  I guess.

It was everyone at the pay gym.  I probably had to unload someone else's weights 20 times over the past year.  I didn't actually mind, though, unless I was in a hurry.  I looked at it as more lifting.  I just didn't like the uncomfortable looking around, trying to see if someone was actually using it, then awkwardly asking everyone if they were.

Full disclosure - it is equally fun to mess back.  We are all cuddle trolls, I think.

Since I started lifting at home, I NEVER rerack at the end.  Reracking has become part of my warm up.  It's an awful habit.  I finish and I'm like what if I wind up starting at that weight and exercise next workout?  Effort saved!  However, that is an absolute lie.  A work set weight is not going to be warm up weight (2) days later.

Also having your own gym means you can ditch your headphones and play your music loudly for the chickens to hear!

Not at ALL a problem at my new gym, but at old gym it was a nightmare. And of course I struggle with the 45 lb plates, and when they're up around head height because tall person apparently used the squat rack last, UGH

No consideration for the hobbit people who have to go after them!

One time, a guy left the bench press there to go do something else, weights still clipped on the bar. I thought maybe he was supersetting or somewhat and waited, but he didn't return, just stayed at his new station. I finally walked up and asked if he was done with the bench and he just kinda nod/shrugged. So yeah, had to unclip and re-rack, and he had a good amount of weight on there. I kept as much eye contact with him as possible while racking his weights.

It seems that the cut is impacting ohp.  It's now a pattern.  :-(

That's okay, that's part of the cut, no? And then when the cut is over you'll go back up up up!!! And all will be right in the magical OHP kingdom :D It's just temporary!!!

I know it's disheartening, but hell yeah it's okay! And keeping on with lower weights will only help your technique in the long run... and other positive things...

Your ohp is still awesome ;).

When did you switch to 531? Just wondering if programming (or programming and cut interactions) is also playing a role... you got a lot more ohp volume and frequency on stronglifts.

Could be - I switched at the same time.   I had started 531 with lots of accessories to work on left/right strength differences,  but stopped doing them when I went back to work and lifted in the evening crowd.  Trying to slowly add them back in.

Today @Grymm, @elvenengineer (Y u no tag?), & @~RedStone~ are coming to crash in my tiny house!  I am super duper excited,  but like a whackadoodle, also nervous.   (Seriously,  WTH do I have to be nervous about?  Nothing, that's what.)

I wish that we all lived closer - I'd have ALL THE NERDS in a giant nerd sleepover - lined up in sleeping bags, tucked in like sardines!   ;-)  (that's why I want to go to Camp - to meet more of you amazing nerds!)

On the tentative agenda:

Lift as much as we feel like lifting

Kayak a local flat water route

Dinner out

Red wine and fancy chocolates

I will not eat like a jerk, but I am relaxing the 1780 cal limit for today - 1. So I have energy and 2. So I'm not stressed about it.

Such fun was had!

A small write up: (ETA: uh...not small)

grymm, Elvie, and RedStone arrived at our house ( @gunslinger_25 is my husband) around noon Saturday.  They brought me two beautiful, inspirational wall hangings for my gym!!! Awww...

After much chatter and catching up, we went to the gym and lifted.  It was nice to lift with friends and study their movements.  My log will say, "lifted with nerds," as I did not write down my numbers.  I learned to front squat, though!  We brought two textbooks to the gym, which neatly solidified our status as nerds.

We then took the kayaks out in the local cove.  In true warrior fashion, we paddled for about 300 yards and then stopped for a lunch break.  Fortified, we paddled a bit more before, by unspoken agreement, stopping in the middle to just chat and peacefully float.  All this cardio wore us out, so we decided to paddle back to get ready for dinner (!).

Elvie, RedStone, and I then practiced the warrior art of glam while grymm and gunslinger amused themselves by commenting MST3K style to bits of partially heard conversation.

Dinner out was good; no one's drink was laced with iocane powder, the food was both plentiful and good, and we learned that local restaurant verbal sabotage is a thing.  We bonded over books!  :-)

Back at my house we played a rousing game of exploding kittens followed by a quite interesting game of Cards Against Humanity.  Red and grymm contributed to the future of my CAH games by adding their own handwritten cards to my deck (@Sam Ashen's *ahem* lifting injury may have been immortalized on one of them).  All of this hilarity was accompanied by generous - but acceptable - amounts of wine, bourbon, and chocolate.  We talked into the wee hours of the night before sleep finally claimed us after midnight.

Sunday morning included a warrior breakfast of many eggs (laid by my chickens) with goat cheese, roasted potatoes, sausage, and grapes.  And coffee....lots of coffee.  Red taught us to stencil, and we talked and talked and talked.

Eventually we all remembered that we are adults (wth?), and the weekend wrapped up with hugs and promises of future meet-ups.

Things that I learned:

I can't be trusted to photo-document!  Red took pics, hopefully she will post some here or on her thread.

These three are really good, funny, caring people.

This community is a beautiful place.  A giant "thank you" to those of you who helped to create it so long ago, those of you who have kept the energy going, and those of you who remember to look in on us newbies from time to time.  Hugs!
