She says she was weighing in at 99.5 kg all week.  I'm shocked the scale was off by 2 kg.  That seems like a lot!

Ben and I have three scales that all give significantly different numbers. His shows about 4lbs heavy, one of mine shows about half a pound too light, and another shows about half a pound too heavy. It's sadly extremely common for uncalibrated scales to be off by a significant amount :(

Yeah I didn't think about the scales reading different AT ALL. Lesson learned for next meet to have a bit more "breathing room." I didn't think I would have to cut so I didn't bother to do anything all week long.

I'm a dummy! So used to competing in "open heavyweight" these weight class problems are foreign to me!

ha, common mistake. one of my meets last year i was so paranoid about the meet scale + travel I ended up weighing in over 2kg UNDER, which is equally as bad when you've dehydrated yourself and have a 2hr afternoon weigh in.

You've got this for this meet, you're so close :) And for next time you can start playing with a water cut if you want and I can tell you everything I know (though I'm not as good as a lot of people at Big Tex are at it!)

Okay I just weighed in again this morning and they said it was "the same." I don't get it I went from 223# to 218.8# on my scale at home over night, why would I still show up as 101.4kg on their scale this morning? Weighed in at 218.8 at scale at home at 6am. Did not eat or drink anything and drove to gym and weighed in at 7am. Sonofabitch

Questions:

Is it 24-hour weigh-in? 2-hour weigh-in?

Is going up a weight class an option?

Otherwise, who are the resident water weight experts?

@SpecialSundae

@spezzy

@miss_marissa

@Tankweazel

There are many others.  If two-hour weigh-in is an option.  What time do you have to weigh in?  And what time DID you weigh in?

During the day my weight changes a lot and I can drop 1.4 kg overnight.

They are probably going to tell you to stay away from salt.  Maybe carbs.  Calorie dense food.

At this point where you've got till the next morning to make weight it's pretty much sauna and chill time.  As spezzy has said previously the important part now is hydration and food timing after weigh in.  Ideally you want to take in what you've had to lose in liquid +5% with your salt.

I'd usually have 750ml with two sachets of dioralyte as soon as I'm off the scale.  Then start eating my porridge and sipping water.

I'll take in simple sugars once I've had porridge and water, but I've learned not to have more than that before warm up.  I basically get through the first event by smashing caffeine, water and haribo.

After that I can start eating small amounts of food.

If you anticipate you might be over by about a week out you can follow water loading protocol and scale it down depending on how drastic you need to be.  I've gone from 63kg to 56.7kg in a week with water loading, salt loading and carb withdrawal with some extra bin bag help for the last 1.7kg on the morning of.  Drastic water cuts are very much about how comfortable you are with feeling really uncomfortable. (I say as I start water loading for next weekend.)

Hey, congrats on the meet!!! Not really trying to be all "well actually", but I recently did a 375 total at 99kg, and my Wilks was more like 300something? So I think yours is probably around there as well :-)

FTFY.  310.99.  310.99!

Here is the Wilks Calculator for your reference.

I should have known much sooner something was wrong.

Yes, all of this :)

Tankweazel has 2hr weigh ins, which are 10x harder than 24 hour weigh ins...

My boyfriend cut something ridiculous like 40lbs for his meet this last weekend (at Big Tex!) and hit a 4xbw squat because of it, though the cut hit him harder than expected and he missed what he was competing for (deadlift) - but that's okay, he learned some things for next time. I think he's writing up a big thing on it also on how he did it, so I can send that over when I've got it :)

Anyway, next meet, you've got it.

Are you doing either of the meets December 10th? (Gainzmas or Bend the Bar)? My meet prep is set for that day but I haven't picked which one yet, since there are no USAPL meets around here for the rest of the year anyway fed doesn't matter, it's just a fun meet for me.

WOW 4xBW Squat! Yes I would love to check out his write-up whenever he has chance to finish it.

I am either going to do Gainzmas or... rumor has it Big Tex is going to do another Strongman comp in Dec. I am waiting for more details on the Strongman comp - it's going to be co-sponsered by Big Tex and PRISM (PRISM is my old gym that just closed down and we moved all our strongman equipment (stones, logs, etc) to Big Tex). I really liked the PL meet though... GAH tough decisions!
