My cousin skipped a grade in elementary... it didn't work out so well for him, he ended up failing the grade he skipped into and ended up right back where he was.  My dad (this might not be relevant because it was forever ago in terms of the education systems) took two grades at once, and it worked out fine for him.

I would say the social implications are probably more important than his ability to do the work.  I forget how old your son is, but I'd be more inclined to do it if it was skipping to Grade 2 or 3.  Skipping into that Grade 4-6 range would be tougher I think.  Other disclaimer: I have no kids, so take my thoughts with a grain of salt :)

I had friends who had skipped grades in elementary school and I honestly couldn't tell when I met them in high school or college. I think the social maturity usually winds up fast tracking for a bit until they catch up, but these are just anecdotes so not necessarily the most useful data.

Things are going well, even if I'm bombing my goal of being more connected on NF. ;)

I already did both batch meals for the week.  The chili was amazing, and I'm totally making it again.  And I did a quiche.

I will also be at the parkour gym for 3 hours tonight, since I'm co-teaching a women's parkour seminar.  And then I still have a couple parkour classes tomorrow.  Whew.

Re: the grade skipping thing.

If we were in a "regular" school district, it would be a no brainer to skip him.  But we live in a highly competitive, very high achieving school district.  I'm having a meeting with the principal next week, and one of my goals will be to have the school fully test him in his reading and language arts.  I kind of need hard data and not some sort of nebulous feels from the school on whether he will be ahead or merely average in reading and writing if he does the grade skip.

As far as maturity goes, on one hand he's kind of a crybaby.  On the other hand, he's a 6 year old who is obsessed with lots of random things way above his age level and is very "weird" compared to his peers.  For example, right now he's really into the electoral map and could tell you right now how many votes each state gets and whether the state strongly or weakly supports Trump or Clinton.  Kids are still young enough to be nice to everyone, but at some point, he's going to have social issues anyway because he's just so different from the other kids.

Sorry.  I'm still being awful with the updating.  :hopelessness:

Saturday night was the women's parkour class, and it went relatively well.  I have some complex thoughts and feelings about it from the teaching end, but I think that most of the people had a fairly good experience!

Sunday was another parkour class, and it ended up being a lot of fun.

That being said, my ankle (the one I twisted a month ago) has been bothering me, as well as my knees.  I think I really have been too high impact with too little recovery time, so I need to give myself a small break from the impact.  The weather also shifted from warm to somewhat chilly, and my joints just haven't had time to adjust.

As far as the challenge goes, the coding and piano have been great!  I also managed my 2 batch cooked meals for the week, and I already have 1 for week 3.  The to-do lists have really kept me focused, and I've managed a lot of cleaning and purging.  So, life things are all going well.

I'll also have at least some resolution for stuff with my son, since I'm meeting with the principal on Wednesday.  The annoying part is that I'm hesitant to jump him since he's only 6, but really the early grades should be the easiest to skip.

Of course you are continuing to get awesome things done. Glad you have your meeting with the principal this week to clear up things with your son!

Glad you are still kicking all the ass with parkour. I've noticed the weather change having some impact on my overall stiffness as wellllll. Sigh. Winter is coming!  Would it be helpful to share some of your thoughts from teaching the women's course here?

I'm starting to realize that I just have really low bandwidth right now.  As far as the challenge goes, my list making is working really well, and I've been very productive with my piano and coding stuff.  I'm also rocking the batch cooking.  And I singlehandedly taught a parkour class yesterday.

But my body is just really achy.  And I still have a bunch of things to deal with at the moment.  At least a lot of the school stuff should be decided in the next few days.  But I don't know that it will reduce my stress levels, since we are leaning toward the grade skip, which will be a rough transition.
