spezzy
Hey guys Back from a few stints in the Ranger guild and so very happy to be back with my Warriors I'm two days out of camp and feeling extremely open emotionally so... yeah. Goal 1) POWERLIFTING Okay, so you guys know I left the Warrior guild for a bit to explore the life of a Ranger. For the last year / year and a half or so I've been training with a group that's extremely serious about powerlifting, which is great for learning - but I struggled a lot because these people are ready to put their entire life into the sport - and I'm not. I'd get eyes rolled at me when I was trying to do gymnastics things in the gym, informed I made poor choices when I was spending time working on inversions or swimming on my days off, etc. (especially when my bench didn't go great the next day or something like that).. and constantly hearing things like "Well, there's no point in doing that meet if I'm going to come in 2nd". And it started to really get to me. I started truly wondering if I really did want to be in powerlifting. I started to feel negative about it. So I needed to take some time away. So after a month of focusing on swimming, and a month training at a different gym on my own, and a week at camp - I've figured it out: I LOVE POWERLIFTING. I'm just not interested in putting my entire life into it. I want to compete, I want to have fun with it, but making it my entire life is not what I'm interested in. Because I love powerlifting, but I like gymnastics, and I like yoga, and I like swimming. And I'm not willing to give up everything else I want to do in my life for that one thing. And I'm also not willing to do what it takes to be number one in most federations anyway - so there's that. So a whole lot of self discovery to say: Continue to follow my powerlifting program that I've been doing. 2016 Goals for my lifts: Squat: 300lbs (137.5) Bench: 215lbs (97.5 kg) Deadlift: 440lbs (200kg) in the 67.5kg weight class (148.8lbs) This would give me a 955 / 435 total , a 443.96 Wilks, and sets me up towards my 1,000 total in 2017. I'm 155.8lbs as of this morning so I need to lose probably 2 more to be able to easily water cut to that 148.8 point. I did the powerlifting meet at camp, with the goal of hitting 80% on all lifts (I was also running the meet!) and ended up hitting at least 90% of everything going 9/9 at 265/180/405. Here's my deadlift - I think I've got 430 in me now so 440 by end of year is completely realistic (that statement scares me!) So this challenge goal: a) Follow programming I've been doing. It's working. b ) Hit rep PR's on heavy days for each of the lifts whenever possible but when it's not, be realistic about RPE and just suck it up, lift at the right RPE, and don't beat myself up about it. GOAL 2) Gymnastics / Yoga I'm trying to get handstands down and a bunch of balancing moves in yoga. I made some pretty good progress last challenge (see video below) but basically want to get better! Work on inversions / yoga transitions at least 3x a week, at least 20 minutes each time. 20 minutes can be spread out (sometimes I'll play for 5 minutes, rest/work for 25 minutes, play for 5 minutes, rest/work for 25 minutes, etc - so pomodoro'ing work and inversions) GOAL 3) Meditate Y'all have seen this one before - meditate! I started meditating again on the plane ride to camp and renewed my headspace membership. Every day, 10 minutes at least. Preferably in the morning BEFORE i get madi out of her crate. GOAL 4) The most personal goal you guys have ever seen from me, and this one is coming from the amazing atmosphere at camp I've ALWAYS struggled with this, and being social. I tend to hermit and social activities scare me and it's hard for me to speak up and voice my thoughts so I usually just go along with everyone else - and it's not that I'm getting into situations I don't want to be in, but I just end up... not having any part in the decision making because I'm afraid people will be like "WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO DO THAT". I'm awkward and dorky but camp reminded me (as it always does) that that's perfectly okay and that I should just embrace it So: a) BE SOCIAL at least once a week. GO TO THINGS I AM INVITED TO. If I'm not invited to anything, reach out and make the invite for something. b ) Speak up. Don't just go along with everything. Suggest things that I want to do to friends. c) Be my regular dorky self and own it. GOAL 5: MADI My poor, anxious dog. Long story short: she's got lots of issues. She got in a fight with a dog while I was gone and there are lots of issues along with that, she started anxiety meds (which I've put off for 2 years), we've got a behaviorist - but this is put focus into her, because if she doesn't get better, we need to start looking into some heartbreaking solutions. 1) Put at least 30 minutes of time into working with her every day. 2) Focus 100% on her - no pokemon go, no talking on the phone, etc. while walking her. Aaaaaaaand that's it! 21 Quote Current Challenge - Instagram “There's only one rule that I know of, babies—God damn it, you've got to be kind.” Link to comment

SpecialSundae
It's really sad that your training buddies were so against anything non-powerlifting. Most of the best lifters I know do things beyond powerlifting and (shockingly) it makes them better lifters for it! Yoga and swimming tend to be pretty high up the recommendation list! Thus endeth the rant. No wonder powerlifting was losing some of its appeal against that background! 3 Quote Link to comment

Phoenix91
Following. This camp thing sounds like fun, I'm new around here and reading people camp posts is awesome! Also, Bravo on that lift in the video, I'm just going to sit back and admire you from afar and one day maybe I'll be able to lift that much! I feel you on anxious animals, I've got an anxious cat; she tends to react aggressively to change because she just can't deal with it, my vet classified her as a 2* cat (dangerous to herself and others) which is fun.
