I feel your feels.

Yep. Let's just say venturing out of the house with no Nerd hugs, to the grocery store with people whose carts made me want to cry (plus some sort of screaming match 'cause that's Brooklyn) was taxing. Hella taxing.

Following.  This camp thing sounds like fun, I'm new around here and reading people camp posts is awesome!  Also, Bravo on that lift in the video, I'm just going to sit back and admire you from afar and one day maybe I'll be able to lift that much!

I feel eel you on anxious animals, I've got an anxious cat; she tends to react aggressively to change because she just can't deal with it, my vet classified her as a 2* cat (dangerous to herself and others) which is awesome.

Camp is the best. I know I'm required to say that because I work for Nerd Fitness but it is easily the best week of my year.

I didn't even know there were classifications of animals anxiety / aggressiveness. Poor kitty :( Mine is luckily easy - I don't know what I'd do if the cat was anxious as well.

It's really sad that your training buddies were so against anything non-powerlifting. Most of the best lifters I know do things beyond powerlifting and (shockingly) it makes them better lifters for it! Yoga and swimming tend to be pretty high up the recommendation list!

Thus endeth the rant. No wonder powerlifting was losing some of its appeal against that background!

Yeah. I think it's this whole "if you're going to do something, just truly do it 100%" and thinking that every little thing outside of anything other than your lifts has a negative impact (I don't agree). So swimming a mile before squat day was a huge no no, even though I really enjoyed the swim. (though I DO agree swimming a mile the day before heavy squat day maaaaay not be the best)

I'm in a much better place now with it all - I'm just going to do my thing and enjoy it :D

I like 4c. Flux at camp was the first time I'd actually sat down and done something nerdy with you. It's weird that it's taken this long.

Seriously, how is this the truth??? Lets not let it take that long again for a second time.

Sounds like you left the Rangers too early ;) It's great that you can own your preferences and do what you enjoy.

I've noticed a different energy in your posting habits since we all got back from camp, like you were already achieving this goal on the forums before you wrote it down.

Some of these have been a longer term goal, I was just too scared to publicize it, but the magic of camp has me feeling brave. :)

It does sound like a lot of fun and something i'll consider for next year :)

2* is basically how the classify feral cats, so if they're put in a situation that scares them they will fight to the death to get out.  My cat will do that, if she gets anxious it's like she thinks she's being killed and will react appropriately to protect herself.  It was scary when i used to take her into the vets office, she would scream and fight.  Now the vet comes out to my house and it's better but still not great, she has to be heavily sedated before the vet can touch her.  She loves me though and when she's not scared she's a peach, when she's scared, she's satan's minion.

oh wow! poor cat :(  madi is great as long as there's no bad stimuli - then she freaks. we are trying this anxiety medicine to take her into scary situations so she learns they are good slowly, and then we can take her off the meds (hopefully). i wonder if there's something similar for kitties?

My cat basically has ptsd, she had a really bad experience when she was spayed and gets horribly triggered by vets.  She's great most of the time, new people are fine and she goes for walks on her leash but i found out just recently that she won't tolerate dogs in the house which sucks for me as i was set to adopt an awesome chinese crested but she put her foot down and flipped out.  She reacts badly to meds, so i doubt that would help.  I think with a cat its easier to manage because her world rarely changes, scary things don't happen here really.  I bet with a dog it would be different because they go so many new places; i really hope the meds your dog is on help.

Okay, so you guys know I left the Warrior guild for a bit to explore the life of a Ranger.

For the last year / year and a half or so I've been training with a group that's extremely serious about powerlifting, which is great for learning - but I struggled a lot because these people are ready to put their entire life into the sport - and I'm not. I'd get eyes rolled at me when I was trying to do gymnastics things in the gym, informed I made poor choices when I was spending time working on inversions or swimming on my days off, etc. (especially when my bench didn't go great the next day or something like that).. and constantly hearing things like "Well, there's no point in doing that meet if I'm going to come in 2nd".

And it started to really get to me. I started truly wondering if I really did want to be in powerlifting. I started to feel negative about it. So I needed to take some time away.

So after a month of focusing on swimming, and a month training at a different gym on my own, and a week at camp - I've figured it out:

I LOVE POWERLIFTING.

I'm just not interested in putting my entire life into it. I want to compete, I want to have fun with it, but making it my entire life is not what I'm interested in. Because I love powerlifting, but I like gymnastics, and I like yoga, and I like swimming. And I'm not willing to give up everything else I want to do in my life for that one thing. And I'm also not willing to do what it takes to be number one in most federations anyway - so there's that.

Oh my god. This hits home with me sooooo hard too.

Coming from the same type of gym and training with people who are super serious about powerlifting (and at least 2 world record holders) I hear that stuff too. Getting asked "well why would you do that?" when I talk about and get excited about gymnastics or hiking or something. Powerlifting is awesome, but it's not my whole life, and I'm ok with that.

Here for support or venting if you need it :)

Great pic. As I was scrolling down to get to the comment section I stopped where I could see just the countertop and the reflection thereof.

That is the coolest toothbrush I have ever seen and may very well be the most awesome dental care appliance in the history of dentistry.
