Soooo... goals are a thing.

Same format as last challenge, but incorporating a few things learned from camp.

Specifically:

  • Hand, wrist, elbow mobility: handstands and benching just tear my fucking wrists up and I really need work on strengthening them. I learned some good stuff in Kate G's classes and looking forward to implementing.
  • Feet stuff: again... Kate mentioned something about feet in her "How to Human Better" class and how our feet have three arches and when we don't treat our feet good, we lose those arches, which leads to weak glutes, which leads to knee cave. :eagerness: lightbulb. So yea... working on my feet needs to happen
  • Jim gave some super awesome cues for handstands in his inversions class. I definitely want to dedicate some practice to this, it will also help with my core strength for lifting. (Only 1x for week 1 since I'm already halfway through it)
  • I went to Amy's "Rise above emotional eating" class where she gave us some tips to do a small meditation before each meal. I think this will definitely benefit me.

There are other things I want to work on too, but I don't want to get burned out so I'm starting here.

Yes to both of these!!

 

I keep saying that I have "Opportunities" to improve. Instead of thinking...whoa I'm broken. Learned that from Kate too! :)

CAMP

 

Kate seems to be all about actively exploring the joint's entire range of motion.  By actively, she means by moving the joint and not by pulling on it.

 

She is also all about spending time barefoot.

 

And she finds it sad hearing about people complain about bad shoulders as if it is just a part of life.  Look up fitforereallife!

She has some AWESOME foot mobility exercises on her website that go beyond what she taught in class too. They've really helped me a lot over the past year (or over the first 8 months after camp last year, the last 4 months I kind of fell off the mobility wagon but that is neither here nor there).  I swear it actually helped with my deadlift stance too!

Wish I had gone to this class.  This is such a good idea though and the first I'm hearing it, I may adopt this as well!

I love that she was saying that too!!!! We have "opportunities" and "consequences" :D

I actually have been meaning to poke around her website because she really only just dove into shoes in class and not really foot exercises :)

She gave us a printout! I will try to get a copy to you. It obviously won't have the same effect of being in the class, but it will give you a start.

 

Day 1.4

Squats on Wednesday were absolutely brutal due to the post-camp exhaustion and still catching up. Front squats for 95x5 were way tougher than they should have been. Also, first time using the safety squat bar, which is... just weird.

Yesterday I had a mindful moment before lunch.

Gymnastics last night and took it pretty easy. Did tumble track most of the time, roundoff back-handsprings and starting to figure out how a back tuck works. Bars, pullovers and then squat-ons to high bar where I did three successfully. Next step is to do it out of a cast. Also a single flyaway into the pit where I landed on my head. That needs practice. Looooooooooots of stretching and a smidge of handstand work.

Howwww did I not know you were this much into gymnastics stuff? I would have totally nerded out with you about it at camp.  I was on the gymnastics team in high school! I sucked, I was really a dancer but all my friends on the gymnastics team coerced me into joining and I basically just ballet-ed on the beam and on floor but still. This is so cool! So you're trying to cast to high bar? Or cast to low bar squat to high bar? Can you do a kip?
