Heavy Benching today:

 

Worked to singles at 110, 115 and 117.5kg, then 5 x 2 at 105kg. Followed this with closegrip benching against chains (+10 at the top) for 5 x 5 @ 80kg. Then a bunch or OHP and upright rows. Felt like crap so pretty happy to only be 5kg off all time best on bench.

Think I ran out of energy yesterday... did my hill sprints in the morning and felt pretty meh. Tried to do more cardio at lunch and did 2 mins before my legs refused to move anymore. So I uppedmy carbs at dinner and felt a bit better today.

 

Today I did some kettlebell swings and cycling first up in the morning. And then at lunch it was skwaat time.

 

Did 1 heavyish single at 180kg...

 

 

Followed by 12 doubles at 150kg, then 10 speedy deadlift singles at 145-155kg. Finished with lunges and back extensions...

 

Now everything hurts and I'm dying....

Had a good weekend - did all the bench pressing with only minor discomfort.

 

Then did something weird and actually left the house and did something cultural and went to a local production of:

Wasn't too bad. Had front row seats too.

 

Then took the kayak out on Sunday for an hour of paddling. Went and bought myself a new paddle and a comfy seat for the kayak - much nicer.

YAY!!!! I can't remember if I ever kayaked even once before this year and this weekend I went out for the second time this year. LOVE. IT.

6 days out from meet....

 

Normally I would work up to my openers on squat and deadlift but my lower back is still being a dick... so decided to box squat instead (I get way less sore from this)...

 

Worked up to 180 x 1

 

Felt pretty good, so I took the box away and worked back up to160 x 1 raw...

 

Skipped any deadlifting... I want to give my spine a few days to rest up and I pulled 195kg last week so I know most of my strngth is there. Finished with some hefty leg presses and did some restoration work on my bicep tendon which is starting to act like a cranky old man....

Good gym day...

 

Did 4 singles at my meet opener of 100kg working on longerpauses. Felt ok.

 

Then did singles at 115, 120, 125 with the slingshot.

 

Followed by heavy triples of closegrip pressing on a 1-board (to save my shoulders).

 

Had this guy in the gym today...

I'm happy to report that after 10 months of increased exercise and a much cleaner diet - I am down a whole kilo.... I hate my genetics

Cutting weight suuuuuuuucccccckkkkksssssss! I'm down 2 kg in 2 days and have only just started my water restriction - will jump in the sauna in the morning to finish off. Weigh in is at 10 am and I have a whole bunch of food lined as soon as I'm done!

Just weighed myself and hit 102.8... assuming I drop a bit of fluid overnight (you know, with breathing and all) I should be able to sauna off the last 2 kg... I'm feeling better about it.

Don't panic! Do what you can, and flow with whatever comes at weigh in. More thoughts/questions after the meet... just focus on doing the thing, you'll be great!!!!

Down another 300g overnight. About to go do light cardio and sauna-ing. Luckily this is only a test run as the meet is all open class and worked out on the glossbrenner scale (slightly more accurate than wilks points -wilks points favour lighter lifters over heavier ones). I just want to be around 100 so my score will equal or surpass my last meet. Every 5kg I have put on reduces my wilks by 5 points, every 5kg extra lifted over last time increases my wilks by 2.5.

 

Last meet was 500kg @ 100kg for 304 wilks

2nd cardio + sauna = down 700g

erg.... ended up weighing in at 100.8 kg which is a total of 4.7 lost in 2 days. Was hoping for 100.3 (same as last meet). But it will affect my wilks by 1 point or less. Curently rehydrating and already back up 1.3kg.

Erk... it went horribly wrong... and I can honestly say that it was only 20% physical and 80% mental.

 

My squat warmup was an abortion. Because I weigh so much - I was lumped in with all the big behemoths which was very intimidating. I wasn't very good at asserting myself during the warmups which led me to take some weird jumps. As an aside - my flight was about 15 people and we only had 3 monolifts to warmup on (1 of which didn't monolift much so was used exclusively by the people walking their squats out). I went 2/3 and ended at 165kg (10-15 under where I thought I would be). On a positive -depth was good for all lifts.

 

Bench warmup was a little better...except I started too early and was at my 1st attempt weight about 15 minutes early. I did an easy 110kg attempt in the warmup room and then managed to fuck it up 3 times on the platform. I did notice that my bar at home has non-regulation rings on it which meant that I could not find my correct grip width for the life of me. I need to measure it next time or buy a better bar for home. After the first 2 misses - I just didn't have it mentally to push through and it showed on the 3rd attempt.

 

By this time my lower back was pissed off and cranky again, so I passed on the deadlifts and waddled home in shame.

I have some ideas to fix all this up so I can go back next year and fuck some shit up. See new challenge.
