GingerThor
Hi folks, im aiming to train early in the morning 3 days a week doing resistance training, I was planning on doing some static stretching at the end of my workout, especially on my legs as they are really tight. If I was to do this would I risk injury if I was to do some other exercises later that day, namely a few physio exercises I'm undertaking for my dodgy knees, or would it be better to do a static stretching session at the end of the day after all my exercising is done? hope that makes sense, and thanks for any feedback Quote Link to comment
Sahaja
You should be fine with basic stretches, get em in while you're still warm. The only reasons (beside injury) to avoid work after the stretches is if you're doing really deep stretches or trying to work out really heavy soon after stretching. If you're rehabbing your knees, make sure you focus on keeping your quads activated while stretching the back of your legs, if your knees hyper-extend even a little, it moves the stress of the stretch out of the muscles and into the joint. John Torgerson
Stretching plays an important role in our injuries. We you don't do it before and after your workout than your chances of injuries may increase. And stretching will also help to burn 20% extra calories. Try to do at-least 5-10 minutes before your workout routine. Quote Link to comment
Sahaja
I'm more from the stretch after the workout camp, stretching cold muscles is asking for trouble. For a sport or something go ahead and warm up and stretch ahead of time to get ready to preform, but for a basic workout you're better off stretching afterwards. Quote Easeful, Peaceful, Useful...
