Hyrulian Yogi
Yup. It has made me sick to my stomach. I simply hope we can all unite through compassion and help one another. This is terrible news. 1 Quote ''Do no harm, take no shit.'' Battle Log | Challenges 1 2 Link to comment

Twilight
Warning: politics. That might just go for the whole thread from here on out. Also Content Warning for all the stuff going on in the US right now. Pretty angry about a headline in a garbage newspaper I saw on the subway this morning. It called the protests going on in the last week "tantrums" ... right. The million man march was a tantrum. The suffragette movement was a tantrum. The whole founding of the United States of America was just a tantrum. Why. My life is at stake, as are the lives of my friends. Even without that, I can't stand by and watch bigots tear down and destroy those they don't even try to understand. This is not conjecture. They have said it directly. They support electrocuting gay people until they straight. They want to register Muslims, like the Nazis registered Jews. They want to force women to carry to term when they've been raped, but won't offer any support once the baby has been born. They're fostering an environment of fear and antagonism. I'm angry that people seem to think there are "two sides" to basic human rights. I'm angry that people expect the marginalized to do all the work, but politely. I'm angry that people are more concerned about being inconvenienced by protests and action than they are about the real impacts these policies will have on the lives of millions of their fellow citizens. I'm angry that people could vote for someone who is openly racist, who boasts about sexual assault, who has lied his way into office at levels never before seen. He's supported by the KKK! What more do you need to not vote for a person like that? This is not ok. We are not ok. First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a Socialist. Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a Trade Unionist. Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a Jew. Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me. Martin Niemöller In challenge-related updates: I've been doing ok with stretching and sleeping. Ukulele practice didn't happen last week. I made some art. 6 Quote Link to comment
RogueLibrarian
Yeah. Everyone I know is equally furious and terrified. I'm not sure what to do about it yet. Stretch, sleep, make art! Love the photo. 2 Quote "We can be heroes" Link to comment
Mad Hatter
I don't know what to do about it either. And I have this uneasy feeling that the only thing that can bring people together is a disaster or tragedy. There is just so much anger, on all fronts, and not just in the US. 1 Quote Link to comment
Owlet
It is really scary I don't even know what to say except that I know a heck of a lot of people who care about this and we will do our best to fight the fear and anger and hate. 1 Quote Current Challenge Link to comment
Twilight
It's my morning political post, yay. Swastikas, slurs, white power posters, and racists yelling horrible things to people on public transit. It's happening here in Toronto, and in Ottawa, and I'm sure elsewhere. A rabbi's house in Ottawa had a swastika and a slur spray painted on it last night. A man was taped yelling racist things on the streetcar here in Toronto last night. This is not a coincidence. Every time we remain silent, we encourage these people. We need to stand up to it at every turn. We need to protest, and loudly, and show them that the majority disagrees with them. You cannot remain passive or silent at a time like this. Don't put yourself in danger, but recognise where you have privilege that you can use to help others who do not. Use your privilege for good. Stand between the bigots and those they would harm. Don't be a bystander. It's really scary, but it's much worse for the people being targeted. Stretched last night. Didn't get enough sleep, so I slept in. Ukulele tonight. 4 Quote Link to comment

Let me tell you about all the racist things Canada has done and continues to do ... Well that will take a while and I'm already mad. But slavery existed here, residential schools only ended in 1996, we currently have a large number of First Nations communities in Ontario and across the country without access to clean drinking water, racism, Islamophobic sentiment, antisemitism, and all those other things are just as active here. We hide behind "at least we're not as bad as the US!" but that just lets us bury our heads in the sand and refuse to see how bad we are. Re this whole thing: Personal responsibility feels bad, but it gets better the more you do it, and the earlier you do it. It's part of growing up. We are nations of butthurt babies who refuse to accept responsibility for our actions, who refuse to inconvenience ourselves to help others, who are willing to keep hurting others because it makes things easier for ourselves. 4 Quote Link to comment
Mad Hatter
Apologies are useless. I'm with Twilight, we ALL need to take responsibility. The same things are happening in Europe as well as the US and Canada, and extremism is just gathering more and more traction everywhere. This election is only a symptom, not the cause. We would like to think that everything is spiffy, but that's only because we're not listening... 1 Quote Link to comment
Jakkals
I am old enough to have spend all of my youth here in South Africa being taught at school and from the pulpits that Apartheid is the only way according to God and the bible. He blocked me. :-p Apparently South Africa's apartheid was inspired by Canada's Indian Act. Twilight
Ukulele didn't happen, but I did spend good time with my loved ones last night. I'm really tired today because I didn't get enough sleep again. I have a massage scheduled for Friday, and I really need it. I'm going to create a calendar view of all the things I want to do, to remind myself and show myself just how much stuff it is. It's actually impossible to do all those things. It's not because I'm lazy that I can't do all of them. Birthday party for kid #2 on Saturday. My baby is turning eight. Quote Link to comment

RES
I'm hoping the registering Muslims is fake, or I may be the first lesbian Muslim to register...may be because I know a lot of other people saying the same... Twilight
Took it easy-ish this week, and I'm glad. My massage was good. The new RMT is nice and I felt comfortable with her. I've started doing my physio exercises for my knee again because it's been pretty bad. I got a lacrosse ball from the RMT to help me with rolling things out. I did get more than seven hours of sleep last night, but that made it really hard to get out of bed. I need a sleep vacation.
