There will be even more distractions coming up so I feel it is even more important to stay focused on the basics. The Targets: 1. Nutrition Eat only Paleo-approved foods, with rice and legumes as allowed carb sources. Eat three servings of protein and veggies a day, and carbs must be within 90 minutes of exercise. 2. Exercise Strength training 3/week. High intensity cardio 2/week. I will allow 1-2 deviations from my nutrition a week, but no workouts can be missed unless sick or injured. Otherwise I end up skipping all the despised cardio. The Battle Plan: Mondays - grocery shopping and prep veggies for the week. Make one new Paleo recipe a week. Do laundry and wash workout gear every second day. Schedule workouts and cardio into my planner. __________ The distractions are all good ones, but I need to remember that even healthy activities are distractions if they take away from something more important. So far I have parkour classes (yay!!) which eat up a lot of travel time. I have also signed up to learn curling with a friend, am taking two online courses, still working on my Spanish, and getting as much hiking/snowshoeing/gallivanting in as possible this winter when work lets me have a day off. I still need to figure out a tracking/reward system for this challenge cycle. Any suggestions are welcome. I had a bluesy morning and took a few hours to get out of bed, so I treated myself to a healthy brunch out (veggie omelette and fruit). The good food choices managed to last all day. No groceries or cooking got done today, but it will get done tomorrow - trying out Paleo Crab Cakes for my new recipe of the week. I almost skipped my gym workout since I was feeling blah still, but I talked myself into going and felt much happier once I was done. This was the first full workout that I managed since my illness two weeks ago, so it is great to be feeling strong again. I lost ground in a few things, including stepping back a level in my Chin Up Quest... not unexpected after almost 4 weeks off but still not great. I was very good and only ate two, then took the rest of the box in to work so coworkers can sabotage their diets mwahaha. They were good enough that I enjoyed using one of my deviations to try them, but not so amazing that I am tempted to eat the whole box. After hearing that burpees are one of the best ways to train for OCRs I don't resent my burpee tabatas as much. They have been seasonally released in the US for a few years, but this is the first time I have encountered them in Canada. My strength is still not back to pre-trip/illness levels. I am trying to learn to be okay with the two steps forward, one step back progress. Eating was clean. Thursday Burpees got done. I threw on a Nature soundtrack so I could pretend that it was doing something useful and discovering new lands outside. Ducking under fallen trees then jumping up to the next rock. My burpees weren't any better but I tolerated them a little more. Today was my second parkour class, and it was even more fun than the first! We started with rolls (I can now do a proper back roll; still can't do a somersault) then we focused on the wrist transition (muscle-up part) of wall runs. They don't expect us to get good at these until level 3, but it was fun to see how it was supposed to be done. And I really need to work on my chin ups! I guess it's not that much different from a pie, at a very basic level lol Burpees (apparently I can't figure out how to insert multiple quotes...) I sometimes think that's probably the key to "liking" something (especially as horrible as burpees /shudders), is just getting proficient enough at them that you can crank them out and move on. Sounds like a grand couple of days! I really want to try parkour, I'm sure there is something around here, but I think I'll wait until I get set in my current routine before throwing that in (future goal though!). It sounds like even after 2 classes it's awesome though--thats terrific! Interesting that you are better at backwards rolls, by limited experience has been that people normally find those a lot harder. Great week! Illness, injuries, and my doctor thinking I had mono (spoiler: I don't! ) had me overwhelmed and antisocial-like. I'm not sure how to update my challenge as I missed several workouts. Some of it was severe lack of energy but not actual illness. I think I am going to ignore week 0 and 1 entirely, and count from weeks 2-5. Sorry to everyone who's thread I haven't kept up with! Kestrel Grey Posted November 16, 2016 Author Report Share Posted November 16, 2016 Challenge update: I'm still doing battle with chronic fatigue-like symptoms. It may not be beaten, but I am figuring out how to continue getting strong and live some sort of life around it. First, my workouts have been split over three sessions instead of two (ABC/ABC instead of ABA/BAB), so each workout only has three compound exercises. This seems a little easier on me, though I still sleep for around 14-18 hours the next day. Second, I have said 'no' to all extra demands (thanks for this week's speech Tank!). I see how much energy I have on a given day before I decide to do anything, including parkour, going out with friends, or even checking in on this forum. My life has been reduced to sleep, work, and three one-hour workouts a week. Though this is not ideal long-term, it is enough to keep me going without driving me further into exhaustion.
