Ella 4 Keeps

AKA Ella keeps on keeping on....

The hastening dusk

Envelops the daily toil.

Still, we continue.

This is my fourth NF challenge, and I'm very happy with the improvements in fitness the previous challenges have brought me.  I realised I could actually stick to something! :D Weight-wise I'm still bouncing around 28 BMI (from 40 almost 2 years ago), as taking up lifting seems to have disrupted the smooth downwards line from the previous challenges.  Never mind, the scale number is not what I'm going for - my shape is.  Tightening up all over and especially getting rid of the belly bulge, which is still the fattest part of me (apple shape / PCOS / T2D) is my overall goal.  Another positive is that I'm keeping my T2D in remission with diet only (OK, and exercise, by now), so keeping and improving my health is also very important.

I will be very busy in the coming challenge with the first assessed paper for my MA in Classical Studies (eeeek!), plus my annual homecooked for 30-odd guests party with a buffet menu, half of which I myself don't eat any more due to carbs.  It takes a few days of prep, then another full one just for clearing up!  My goal, therefore, will consist of making sure my fuel and fitness are on point, ticking like clockwork in the background.  I'm not going to set a meditation goal this time - the previous challenges have refreshed my practice (I am a Reiki Master Teacher) and self-care doesn't feel like a chore any more.

So, on with the goals:

1.  Eat keto with IF; weekly average of 20 g carbs and 75 g protein per day, plus fat to satiety

2.  HIIT with kettlebells at home 3 x week (M/W/F)

3.  Lift in a gym 2 x week (T/Th), one of those with a PT

Bonus:  walking to work, AKA Mordor...

Oh, oh, yes, this time I have a reward for completing the challenge! :D When all of the above is out of the way, I shall get myself Civilization VI :D:D:D !

Good luck, everyone!

I really admire that you feel comfortable continuing on the same vein without a need to increase. Just continuing what you are doing that is working.

Well, I'm sure you are upping your workout gains and such (more weights, etc.), but to not feel like you need to add something more or new. :victorious:

Not only that, but actually reducing my list compared to previous challenges! :D

To be honest, though, it's because I'm really very lazy and the fitness goals are still very, very challenging.  Every day.

Thanks!  I'm intensely interested in classics too, just currently unable to produce any quality work!  Got a day off tomorrow, so hope to break the first part of the assignment.

It's great how you're able to build on your success last time finding the gym and PT

Thanks, yes it is a huge thing for me and I'm still feeling wobbly about keeping it up.

Following. Good skill on your challenge. It looks good especially the Civilization VI reward. I hadn't heard there was a new one out. I love the game, but it tends to be a great sabotage to my goals as I tend to get sucked into the game and lose track of time. However, that doesn't mean I don't play it. :P

I'm back after almost a week in bed with the flu.  The challenge is slightly postponed!  I started walking again yesterday, but got really tired and breathless so I'm taking it slowly.  Don't think I'll get to the gym until next Tuesday, but hope to be able to pick up a kettlebell on Monday.  Food?  Still low carb, but not completely keto (or maybe it was - but I couldn't track anything and I ate whenever I felt like it).

Hope everyone's doing well, sorry I wasn't around to contribute!

I'm glad you are feeling better! And good on you for taking it slow. I know far too many people who try to charge back into life after being sick only to be laid up for another week because of that. *hugs*

Thanks @Dagger, @Twilight and @Hyrulian Yogi! :D  I am finally feeling almost back to normal, and it only happened yesterday during my gym session.  Now I'm just feeling exhausted because 'tis the season, and winter is coming...

I'm back to proper ketogenic diet, accurately recorded on fitday.  I haven't yet dared to step on the scale, but that thing is evil anyway and I don't like it! :apthy:

Kettlebells - yes, did Mon and forgot this morning (I think I was in a daze), but still have time to do it after work.

I've also returned to the gym, after 12 days, and it made me feel better!  Walking to and from work is happening, but without added embellishments at the moment as it's become quite cold here in the last week or so.

OK, this challenge has not been the greatest in terms of achievement, but rather than let it completely fizzle out, I'm back here to log my successes (or otherwise) and prepare for the next and final week.

Last week (#2, beginning Mon 07 Nov), I did the following:

1.  Ate keto (24 g carbs, 74 g prots)

2.  HIIT with kettlebells at home -  2 out of 3

3.  Lifted in a gym 2 x week (T/Th), one of those with a PT - yes

4.  Walked to work, AKA Mordor - 32.81 km

This week, however, I was too busy and stressed to log food on Mon & Tue, and I ate a lot - definitely low carb, but not keto low.  Also, no leaving the house for 2 days!  Back to almost normal yesterday, yet I forgot to do the kettlebells.  I still have a planned session tomorrow, and might squeeze in something at the weekend...?  Hope to be fully on point for next week.

Today I went to the gym in the morning, before work (as I've currently swapped my hours to start couple of hours later, probably until Xmas) and I'm not sure what to think.  First, I found it difficult, psychologically, to leave the house for the gym - for some reason it's fine when I go straight from work.  Once there, I didn't feel like I had enough time, even though I did everything on my list, but condensed into 2 sets with slightly heavier weights.  My hair was not (still isn't!) completely dry and I was almost late for work (right on time, whilst I like to be there 10 mins in advance).  On the other hand, I feel much less tired now than after my usual post-work gym session...  I'll be testing a late session next week and will decide what works best.

Changing routines and work schedules has long been a problem for me too. After we came off daylight savings time, I flipped some of my morning and evening workouts, and I've been forgetting things (or just procrastinating :P) ever since! It takes discipline, but it can be done. Mornings are hard for a lot of us. Be persistent. You can do it!

Ok, the summary of Week 3, probably the worst week in some ways, and not so bad after all in others...

1.  Eat keto - FAIL  (averaged 40 g carbs [due to 2 pieces of different chocolate cakes over the weekend, and an order of sweet potato fries with my steak in a pub] and 63 g prots)

2.  HIIT with kettlebells at home -  2 out of 3, so positive 66%

3.  Lift in a gym 2 x week (T/Th), one of those with a PT - could fit no more than 1 gym session, on my own as P/T had other apt; 50% is still a passing grade!

4.  Walk to work, AKA Mordor - 25.32 km, which is not bad for almost 2 days at home

Sooooo, altogether pretty pathetic, yet the amazing thing is that I haven't just given up and continued to stuff my face whilst sitting my behind firmly on the couch!  This is a challenge, and sometimes I won't be able to step up, but I will continue to show up!

The positives of this week have been family, friends, culture and sightseeing.  Some of the highlights include hosting a huge dinner party, visiting my nephew to meet his young baby boy, seeing an opera on stage with my other nephew in one of the major roles, and visiting Canterbury cathedral for the first time.  Actually, it was a brilliant week! :D
