RES Posted October 26, 2016 Report Share Posted October 26, 2016 Last challenged started with me starting a new job, having some areas of life running smoothly as far as nutrition and learning to live in this RV...and wondering if I should bother with a challenge...since there were only 3 (now down to 2!) left this year, and they encompass my birthday, thanksgiving, Christmas, etc...I'm just going to take the rest of the year to get everything in place to knock 2017 out of the park! (I work for a minor league baseball team, you can expect more bad puns like this...) Immediate goal is to pay off/down debt...when my wife was 'restructured' this year it was a huge challenge to find the money to move and keep up with the bills, we both have student loans that are affecting our debt/credit ratio that we need to address, I would also like to pay off the vehicles early since having two car payments is a struggle right now. The progress on this is going better than expected... I've made my other goals more specific as I've noticed some issues (I)nvigorate - my movement and strength training goal, aiming for 5 days a week (V)ariety - social goal, aiming for getting out and doing something 'fun' once a week (Y)in and Yang - Work on life balance - get enough sleep, leave work on time (when not required to stay) no bailing on events I say I'm going to (unless financial) I don't do nutrition goals anymore because honestly, I don't need to...I plan menus and my shopping list for the week and stick to it, with my current cash flow situation I've had no choice...I know how crappy it makes me feel when I cheat and it's not worth it... Mistr Posted November 2, 2016 Report Share Posted November 2, 2016 Following and rapidly catching up! I'm right there with you on keeping the good habits going without stressing about them. I should do a financial challenge too. One of my adulting goals is to figure out exactly where we are at. It is my responsibility and I have let it slide. Avoiding looking at numbers because I'm afraid of what I'll find is a poor strategy. Work has been nuts, painting offices and all kinds of exciting happenings... My son is back safely from underway...his transmission went out the other day so I picked him up and took him down to St. Augustine to buy a new truck My youngest son's 18th birthday was the 12th...I officially feel old... Goals have been *meh...I've been researching gyms because trying to work out in an RV is next to impossible, outside is really not feasible anymore with it getting dark so early, plus nowhere to really do that if I get up early. The social goal has been outstanding...sleep goal is hit and miss...especially when I get up to do something social on weekends.. Did a 5k last weekend, I am REALLY out of shape... Some ideas that might make it less stressful (I don't know anything about your specific exercise goals, so these are just generic ideas). This may all be stuff you've already thought of. For starting at a new gym, where you aren't familiar with the layout, one idea is to just use one of the cardio machines the first day. Maybe cardio isn't really your goal, but you only have to use one machine and you can kind of figure the place out. You could build on that...force yourself to explore a different piece of equipment or lifting area each time you go. Another approach is to just have a trainer walk you through the gym and set up a routine for you. Sometimes I get a little anxious at the gym when I'm not sure what I should do next. It helps me to have a plan written down. It also helps if the plan is somewhat flexible so you can adjust if someone is using whatever you wanted to use. When you sign up, you might try asking about times when the gym is less busy. Ok, here's one more kind of weird idea. What's one exercise that you feel good doing? We often try to work on our weaknesses (which is great), but you should also have fun. Do something that makes you feel good/strong/powerful. I used to feel like that at the gym. Pretty much everybody has that when they start. All those people who look like they know what they're doing? They remember feeling out of place in the gym when they started. That said, it can help to work out in the middle of the day when the main demographic is older. Elf likes being the youngest person working out at our local community center gym. You are willing to participate in 5Ks in public wearing a superhero costume. How is that different from working out? That's exactly what I did LOL...I plan on having a trainer set up a routine for me when I am on break after next week and I have more time. Main goal right now is to regain the endurance and stamina I lost, I'm going to need it when season gets here and I'm running all over the concourse! I finished up this set by getting a 63% on my activity, over 100% on social, and 74% on sleep/work/life balance...
