RES: Multi-phased growth II

Last challenged started with me starting a new job, having some areas of life running smoothly as far as nutrition and learning to live in this RV...and wondering if I should bother with a challenge...since there were only 3 (now down to 2!) left this year, and they encompass my birthday, thanksgiving, Christmas, etc...I'm just going to take the rest of the year to get everything in place to knock 2017 out of the park! (I work for a minor league baseball team, you can expect more bad puns like this...)

Immediate goal is to pay off/down debt...when my wife was 'restructured' this year it was a huge challenge to find the money to move and keep up with the bills, we both have student loans that are affecting our debt/credit ratio that we need to address, I would also like to pay off the vehicles early since having two car payments is a struggle right now. The progress on this is going better than expected...

I've made my other goals more specific as I've noticed some issues

(I)nvigorate - my movement and strength training goal, aiming for 5 days a week

(V)ariety - social goal, aiming for getting out and doing something 'fun' once a week

(Y)in and Yang - Work on life balance - get enough sleep, leave work on time (when not required to stay) no bailing on events I say I'm going to (unless financial)

I don't do nutrition goals anymore because honestly, I don't need to...I plan menus and my shopping list for the week and stick to it, with my current cash flow situation I've had no choice...I know how crappy it makes me feel when I cheat and it's not worth it...

I enjoy power walking, kettlebells, and yoga...I don't like stressing over getting a certain number of these in a week so as long as there is something done five days a week I'm okay with that...I'm just trying not to gain right now, I'll work on losing in the future, it's not a focus right now...I'm trying to stay sane

And on to the next challenge!!

Following and rapidly catching up!

I'm right there with you on keeping the good habits going without stressing about them. I should do a financial challenge too. One of my adulting goals is to figure out exactly where we are at. It is my responsibility and I have let it slide. :(  Avoiding looking at numbers because I'm afraid of what I'll find is a poor strategy. It helps to know that other people are dealing with the same thing, many from a scarier position than me.

Where has time went? I remember to update my spreadsheet but forget to check in over here...

Work has been nuts, painting offices and all kinds of exciting happenings...

My son is back safely from underway...his transmission went out the other day so I picked him up and took him down to St. Augustine to buy a new truck

My youngest son's 18th birthday was the 12th...I officially feel old...

Goals have been *meh...I've been researching gyms because trying to work out in an RV is next to impossible, outside is really not feasible anymore with it getting dark so early, plus nowhere to really do that if I get up early. The social goal has been outstanding...sleep goal is hit and miss...especially when I get up to do something social on weekends..

Did a 5k last weekend, I am REALLY out of shape...

Problem with gym's is other people...in my house I didn't have to worry about that, I'd just get up before the wife and was good (yes, I don't even feel comfortable working out in front of her) not sure how I'm going to overcome this particular phobia...

back to work...

Putting these here because I want to keep track of them and they may help someone else...before the hysterectomy I had PCOS...seems like the only side effect that went away was irregular cycles...I also have autoimmune (RA), going to delve into these a bit more on my days off this week...

Tricks to going to the gym. Some ideas that might make it less stressful (I don't know anything about your specific exercise goals, so these are just generic ideas). This may all be stuff you've already thought of.

For starting at a new gym, where you aren't familiar with the layout, one idea is to just use one of the cardio machines the first day. Maybe cardio isn't really your goal, but you only have to use one machine and you can kind of figure the place out. You could build on that...force yourself to explore a different piece of equipment or lifting area each time you go. Another approach is to just have a trainer walk you through the gym and set up a routine for you.

Sometimes I get a little anxious at the gym when I'm not sure what I should do next. It helps me to have a plan written down. It also helps if the plan is somewhat flexible so you can adjust if someone is using whatever you wanted to use.

When you sign up, you might try asking about times when the gym is less busy.

Ok, here's one more kind of weird idea. What's one exercise that you feel good doing? We often try to work on our weaknesses (which is great), but you should also have fun. Do something that makes you feel good/strong/powerful. We're all good at something.

Oh yes, I hear you on that. Elf just turned 20. He is younger than most of my nieces and nephews, and my brothers are 6-7 years younger than me. On the other hand, I'm in pretty decent shape for an old fart.

I used to feel like that at the gym. Pretty much everybody has that when they start. All those people who look like they know what they're doing? They remember feeling out of place in the gym when they started. That said, it can help to work out in the middle of the day when the main demographic is older. Elf likes being the youngest person working out at our local community center gym. :P

You are willing to participate in 5Ks in public wearing a superhero costume. How is that different from working out? Would it help if you wore bright colored tights and contrasting shorts? A cape?

That's exactly what I did LOL...I plan on having a trainer set up a routine for me when I am on break after next week and I have more time.

Main goal right now is to regain the endurance and stamina I lost, I'm going to need it when season gets here and I'm running all over the concourse!

Work hours dictate that early morning or evening is my workout time :(

and wearing this would call entirely too much attention to myself LOL...not happening...everyone else was wearing that too is how it's different ;)

Plus I donated the cape to Holiday Helpers... :D

I'll go into more details of my plan with the next challenge (which I'm late for...how did that happen?) I finished up this set by getting a 63% on my activity, over 100% on social, and 74% on sleep/work/life balance...

I joined a gym...Planet Fitness...I know I know, don't judge me...it's in the budget right now, it has everything I need for the time being, and my job may be getting Baileys memberships after the new year...
